Double-T Nation Marquez Drafted

16th Round to the Mets.  Congratulations to this young man.  Not sure what that means as far as playing football at Tech.
I like to see him stick around but I certainly wouldn't blame him for making baseball his career.  Maybe he can do both?
Lots of guys have done both in the past but risking injury may be enough to keep a guy focused on one sport.  I guess we have to expect this kind of thing with better talent coming to Tech.

Double-T Nation Boone

Not sure if anybody had seen this yet.  The article basically talks about players who may have signed with the wrong school.  Our commit Kendron Boone who opted for LSU is mentioned.  I sure wish this kid had kept his decision to stay with us but I'm sure we'll be fine with who we have.

Double-T Nation New Coach - Who's confused?

I was really excited to see Tech get the win last night and I also thought Ruffin did a heck of a job rallying the players in such tough times.  I'm really confused about the coaching vacancy.  On one hand I see Ruffin has the support of the players and seems like a big Santa Claus to everybody.  The guys love him no doubt but does he really measure up to head coaching material?  Once again I'm pessimistic and say no.  I saw a great deal of coaching by committee going on and I can understand it was his first game in such short notice but I'm just not sold in his ability to be a leader versus a nice guy.  I'm of the thinking a coach needs to be a hard ass like Jimmy Johnson or Parcells.  I like strong leadership because it demands results and in most cases works.  It may be my old school thinking and I do think sports have changed in this day and age.  I really do like Ruffin as the DC and I think he's doing great but can he manage Texas Tech football in the grand scheme of things?  This position goes way beyond the playing field and although Leach wasn't a great speaker, he had way about him that made up for it.  I guess I'm torn on this.  I know what the players want but  is that really important?  My business sense tells me they will get on board with whoever comes in.  Names like Tubberville and Sumlim have all my attention.  These guys have a track record of winning and leading teams.  At this point  I would even go as far as saying if we lose this recruiting class so be it provided we can land a coach that has the ability to pick up the pieces and find ways to be competitive in the future.  I've come to accept Mike is gone and now it's time for us to move on.  I just hope we can find a coach that has everything it takes to make Texas Tech football a winning tradition.

Double-T Nation Dedicate Alamo trophy to Leach also chant "Leach"

It would be awesome if the players and fans could chant "Leach" at the end of the game and dedicate the winning trophy to him.  I'm not close enough to any of these players but hopefully some have already thought of that.  I am assuming we win which we will.  This is Mike Leach's team and his success in action and he should get the accolades for winning.  I'm sure he will be watching and this would be just a small way we could show support.  Please do what you can to get the word out.  I'm sure players will be told to keep quiet but I also speculate that some won't.

Double-T Nation Death Penalty

We might as well just join SMU.  As much as I try to shed some light on this I just can't see it.  Our #24 recruiting class will go away and our air raid offense that Leach brought to Tech is gone.  Sure maybe a new coach will come along and get us excited for the off-season but it's just going really hard to see us doing any better than we did under Mike Leach.   I'm a pessimist by nature so I don't mean to sound so negative.  This day really sucks and I can hardly even talk to friends on the phone offering opinions and support.  What really happened here?  Does this really have anything to do with the James' family?  Do we have a bunch of simple minded country bumpkins running our administration?  I was a huge Leach supporter and man I know he loved Texas Tech football.  I really think after the contracts were inked last year Leach was a lifer and felt great about his future at Tech.  On the other end I think the admin. had other plans.  I just can't believe this happened after years of success here and I wish Mike Leach the absolute best.   In the end I hope we can survive this as a football program but I have some serious doubt.  We don't need a rebuilding decade.

Double-T Nation Send a Message to Hance

Kent Hance's email is the following kent.hance@ttu.edu

Take a minute and state your case for or against Mike Leach.  I know several of us did this last year and I'm not certain it made a difference but it can't hurt.  I seriously doubt he reads all these but at least it lets him know where the majority falls on the issues.  Things appear to be very ugly this time around and I'm feeling like Tech is about to make a move that doesn't represent the raider nation.  Last year I did receive a form reply form Hance so he had to have some indication of support we all had for Mike.  Kent Hance is a good man with great intentions for Texas Tech but I'm sure he's being pressured by many administrators to make a move which may not coincide with what we all think or feel.  To conclude, please take a minute to state your opinion even though it may not be heard.

Double-T Nation 49ers on MNF - Crabtree

Just thought I would mention it if anybody is interested.  Game is on ESPN.  He is doing well and has caught several passes and had a huge block that led to a 49ers TD.  Hopefully he can score his second TD tonight.  Game is against the Cardinals at San Francisco.  Hopefully some of our recruits can see what Texas Tech has made of him and the Air raid offense.  I will say the QB for the 49ers needs work.

Double-T Nation Are you a "pull for the conference guy"?

Just curious to see how many of us fall into this mind frame.  For me it's easy to answer...No.  I know all the money and the conference as whole gets with wins and recruiting attention etc..  but I just really enjoy a UT and A&M loss as much as I enjoy a Tech win.  I also understand the Big 12 vs. SEC competition thing.  My wife asked me if I wanted to see UT win the NC game and I thought absolutely not.  Am I alone on this or do many of you find yourselves as selfish as myself when it comes this?

Double-T Nation Vote - Alamo Bowl

The Alamo Bowl folks are highly considering OU in favor of Tech.  We all know that's not fair but crazier things have happened and these bowl officials can pretty much choose who they want.  You can follow the link below and vote for your team favorite match up in the Alamo Bowl San Antonio.  If we lose out on the Alamo it's probably going to mean the Sun Bowl for Tech.  Makes no sense seeing how Tech won the head to head against OU but it could happen.  Please take a minute to vote.  Thanks.

Double-T Nation Happy Thanksgiving Everybody

Just wanted to wish my Double T Nation brethren a happy Thanksgiving.  I know we are all excited about the game on Saturday and hopefully we finish strong in what has been a crazy football season.  I'm really thankful for all the athletes and coaches that entertain us throughout the season and all the great people involved in promoting Texas Tech athletics.  God bless our soldiers overseas and everybody else as well.

Go Red Raiders!!!

Double-T Nation Where are the stars this season?

Seriously, Where has Lewis, Brittin and all the other players that were supposed to be head liners.  From my vantage point Batch finally had a good game against UH.  Where was he in the first 3 weeks?  The receivers that have stepped up are in some cases new to the spot light.  Here we are 4 games into the season and I can't really say we have a Harrell or Crabtree.  I realize we are young but what about the seasoned players from '08?  If I had to guess today who might be our guy for '09 I would go with Lyle Leong or Swindle.  I think Harrison Jeffers best kept secret.

Double-T Nation Did I hear "Orange Power" during the OKST game?

Not sure if I did hear this correctly but if so that is embarrassing to say the least.  These guys have almost duplicated everything Texas Tech.  I was watching and admiring their play against Georgia when I thought I heard the stadium chanting our familiar "raider power".  As I thought that made no sense I listened closely and heard "orange power".  Please tell me the spirits where getting the best of me by that time and it wasn't so.  Seems like every year they introduce another Tech tradition.  Next season it will be a horses rear facing OU.

Double-T Nation Delans Griffin commits to Tech

A 4 star running back.  Great news.  Way to go coaching staff.  This back field just keeps getting better and better.  Captain Leach and Company just keep them coming.  Now lets get some defensive ends and more safties ans corners.  The 2010 class is probably going to be our best yet if things keep moving in the direction they are now.
Welcome to the Red Raiders Delans.  Can't wait to see you on the playing field.

Double-T Nation Any word on Sesay yet?

Does anybody have any insight on him returning to Tech to play in the fall or are his academic issues going to keep him from playing?  Also, I know it's a long shot but has anybody heard anything about Dixon's future?  What a huge benefit it would be to have both these guys back in the line up.  If you know anything or have an idea when the eligible players are listed, please advise.

Double-T Nation Dale Hansen - Sports

Those of you from the DFW area may have seen Channel 8 sports last night.  A full story on the next Crabtree for Texas Tech.  This kid is currently the dallas carter hs QB and plans on signing with Tech.  Probably will be a receiver or DB at the college level.  I think his name was Jarvis.  That kind of press in the DFW area just before signing day is a great thing for Tech.   Makes me really proud to see how far we have come.

Double-T Nation Could be worse - Texas A&M

It's dissapointing to lose the Cotton Bowl after such a great season but Tech has a whole lot of things to regard positive moving forward.  Our program gained national attention throughout the season and our coach will be the focus of Sunday's 60 Minutes episode.  ESPN featured Tech on almost every high light and not to mention fully televised games.  Recruiting is way up and we have lots of depth on the remaining team.  Now if you look at the aggies you can't say anything is moving in a positive direction for those envious losers.  I read their chat board Texags as the season moved along and all they talk about is Tech in a negative fashion.  I find it really interesting how a program as bad as theirs can actually talk so bad about Tech's.  New Baylor as we now refer to them will be lucky if they can muster 6 wins next season.  Red Raiders can feel good as one of the south division leaders for years to come.  We had a great year and will continue to improve to the likes of Oklahoma and Texas.  Congratulations Red Raiders and to the Raider nation alike.

Double-T Nation Awesome but Sad - Dream Season

Wow!  This season for me has been a tremendous ride of emotions.  As a season ticket holder and alum of Tech I have waited for a season like this one.  Our team made national headlines on a weekly basis and gained lots of respect among non-believers.  Yes we lost Saturday to Oklahoma but they flat out beat us.  I would rather have had it that way than a marginal loss decided by a last second field goal or touchdown.  I am embarrassed about the performance as I thought Tech would at least be in the game.  I could hear it in Kirk and Brent's voices when they said we look "rattled".  They knew this game was going to be ugly and it was.  I can't articulate what happened nor do I make excuses about how we could have salvaged this game.  Fact is we are 10-1 and will more than likely be 11-1 after the Baylor game.  An almost perfect season that will probaly only yield a Holiday or Cotton Bowl appearance.  That's the awesome but sad dream season wrapped up.  Those two bowls usually host teams with 3 loses.  I guess it's all part of being in the Big 12.  The talent level in this conference is second to none.  For me personally, I do believe Tech is the second best team in the conference and should be invited to a BCS bowl.  A great deal has to happen and we only control one game of that scenario.  I do hope Leach continues to coach here at Tech because he has made us the 3rd most talked about power in the Big 12 under UT and OK.  If we keep on track we will be a contender for years to come.  It's hard to believe that we were #2 in country.  Hats off to the 2008 Red Raider football team.

Double-T Nation Pay Leach his Money

We need to secure Leach as soon as possible.  This man has made our program and we should be naming streets after him at this point.  I really hope Gerald knows what he is doing by waiting until the end of the season to offer up Leach's new contract.  very scary with the jobs that are opening around the country.  I can tell you that UT and TAMU would love for Leach to move on this point.  If the alumni needs to raise funds to keep him we need to do so.  Any thoughts?

Double-T Nation One Game at a time

Tech has been hugely successful so far staying focused.  I can't see them loosing focus anytime soon with the schedule ahead.  If they beat Kansas which I think they will, tech should get all the attention heading into next week against Texas.  I'm not sue what rank we'll be but that game will be the one burning in everybodies living room around the country.  May  ESPN College Gameday finally comes to Lubbock.  Wow, wouldn't that be a boost for our program.
