Turf Show Times Feels Great to be a Rams Fan !

Ram fans can finally enjoy a week of NFL, and our team, after Sunday's 30-16 home victory over the Redskins.

Here are some of my impressions / concerns / observations / etc after watching the game a few times.

  • The defense is really forcing a LOT of fumbles. Once the defense starts holding on to their interceptions...
  • It is GREAT to be going into our 4th game in-a-row with the same offensive line. We are starting to see them slowly gel and with Greco rotating in...
  • What happened with Jerome Murphy? Why was Thompson suited up and playing and not Murphy?
  • Here's hoping we get Dahl, Ryan, Scott, Stewart, Jackson, Totson, etc. all back healthy and contributing very soon
  • Ram need to continue taking advantage of a great offensive weapon. One that we saw in the pre-season and continue seeing in the regular season. That is the "hard count". S. Bradford has a great voice / hard count and each and every game he has gotten their defense to jump offsides early for a free 5-yards. Great job!
  • Rookies, especially the undrafted rookies, are really contributing this year. Props to Cudjo, Totson, Curry (IR), Stewart plus, special props to G. Selvie.
  • Side Note: 49ers 0-3 and in last place in the NFC West !!!
  • The Clayton deal was Huge. Great job B.Devaney
  • Personal early season surprise player: Daniel Fells
  • Note to Demoff: If you are falling short each week selling out the stadium and avoiding the local black-out, here is a suggestion: Rent a special party bus and start bringing them in from Norman, OK.
  • Love how the organization is reaching out to the Rams alumni! Long overdue and needs to continue.
  • S. Bradford is the best QB, hands-down, in the NFC West
  • We need to beat the Seahawks and end that losing streak, How about a 2-game, home winning streak? How will the NFC West standings look then? All Ram fans outside of St Louis are imploring the locals to be that "12th Man" once again this Sunday.

GO RAMS!!!

Turf Show Times From Walk-On to the NFL

Rams roll dice on UH’s Onobun, a dual-sport star

By SAM KHAN JR.
Copyright 2010 Houston Chronicle

Though he never played a down of organized high school football, Fendi Onobun remembers the times that some of his friends would tell him “You're going to play in the NFL one day.”

Onobun would laugh and dismiss the notion. After all, he was a basketball player, and that's where he once believed his future was.

It turns out that his friends were right.

In what has been a unique journey, the University of Houston walk-on tight end and former University of Arizona and Alief Taylor basketball player will get a chance at an NFL career after the Rams selected Onobun with the first pick of the sixth round (170th overall) of the NFL draft on Saturday.

“I can't believe it,” Onobun said. “I just think back and think of so many things that I've been through.”

The 6-51/2, 252-pound Onobun experienced a lot in the last year. After concluding his four-year basketball career at Arizona, Onobun took a stab at the Wildcats' pro day last April but also contemplated a professional basketball career overseas. Scouts who saw him told him that he'd have a chance to get drafted if he played a year of football. With his degree already done, Onobun opted to continue his education at UH, where he walked on with the Cougars.

The 2009 season was the first time Onobun competed in organized football since he was a seventh grader at O'Donnell Middle School in Alief ISD. He didn't play while he was at Alief Taylor — he focused on basketball before signing with Arizona.

Well Worth It For Walk-On

Though Onobun didn't rack up huge numbers (two catches, 33 yards and two blocked kicks), he did appear in some capacity in all 11 UH games. Those games helped him get familiarized with football again. It was during UH's pro day in March when Onobun wowed the NFL scouts. He ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash, a 4.15-second shuttle and posted a 37 1/2 vertical jump and an 11-foot, 1-inch broad jump.

His athletic ability was impressive enough for the Rams to grab Onobun, perhaps adding another target for their newest quaterback, top overall pick Sam Bradford.

"It was all worth it - walking on to the (Cougars), having to take out a loan to pay for grad school, all the ups and downs, the trials and tribulations, arguing with my dad contemplating whether I wanted to go play (basketball) overseas or if I wanted to play football," Onobun said. "I'm a big believer that my steps are orded and that God has a plan. I believe everything worked out the way it is supposed to."

'Just the Beginning'

He said he never would have beleived back in high school that he would return to football, but he is ready for the challenge.

"This is just the beginning," Onobun said. "It's a new level of competition and a new level of work. I'm going to have to carry myself like a professional and work like a professional. This is now my livelihood and my job."

Turf Show Times Carriker traded to Wash

It finally happened. Just read it on the Washington Post

Rams trade Adam Carriker to Redskins

Updated at 3:55 p.m.

The Redskins have acquired defensive tackle Adam Carriker, a former first-round draft pick, from the St. Louis Rams, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. To obtain Carriker, the Redskins swapped fifth-round picks with the Rams, moving down from No. 135 overall to 163.

A Nebraska product who played defensive end in college, Carriker was the Rams' 13th overall pick in the 2007 draft and lined up as a three-technique tackle. Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett was the St. Louis coordinator at the time and found success with Carriker, who was the team's top rookie performer in '07.

Carriker missed all of the 2009 season after tearing a muscle in his shoulder late in the preseason. He underwent surgery and spent the year on injured reserves. In essentially two seasons of playing, Carriker has started 25 games and played a role 53 tackles and two sacks. He has two years remaining on his rookie contract; he is due $1.07 million this season, $1.42 million in '11.

The Redskins have clearly made the defensive line a priority this offseason. Carriker is the fifth linemen they've picked up since free agency began. On Monday, they signed Howard Green to a one-year contract and they'd previously signed Anthony Bryant, Maake Kemoeatu and Greg Peterson.

With all those additions, it certainly casts even more uncertainty on Albert Haynesworth's future with the team

Turf Show Times Today's trade rumor

During this time of crazy rumors, player trades, RFA tender singings, etc., there also seems to be a realigning of expectations from teams on just exactly what value in the draft they can expect in return for a player trade.

Examples include the recent McNabb and Marshall trades where teams received basically 2nd rounders in return. Now we are hearing that other players may only now be worth a 3rd or possibly a 4th rounder?

Here is the scenario I expect to transpire on draft day combined with two players on the trading block who I feel would be great additions to the Rams.

First, the #33 pick will be traded. I have no doubts. I expect that the Rams will receive a nice package for that pick. We will "slide down" a few picks (?) in the 2nd and pick up and extra pick (or 2). I am hoping (jeje) that we pick up an extra 3rd rounder so that we can keep, for ourselves, the first pick a top the 3rd round.

Here is where I get to play Billy D. and a trade comes in. The two players I really like and would like to see in a Rams uniform this season are:

1) Tony Scheffler (TE) from Denver

2) Albert Haynesworth (DT) from Washington

Scheffler could easily become Bradford's favorite and most realiable target. What a nice gift for the incoming Rams QB. Haynesworth, a Pro Bowl player, could fill the "I want Suh drafted" crowd and with our organization's connection with people in Washington (Haslett) we could and should include Carriker as part of the trade package.

One or both? It is possible....

GO RAMS !!!!
