Originally from Newfoundland, I've been a Raptors fan since Isiah Thomas burst through that large paper Raptors logo on May 24, 1994. But I've been an NBA fan since the Lakers/Celtics rivalry of the 1980s. I'm also an avid baller, and the Nike Hyperdunk might be my favourite basketball shoe since the Air Jordan 5.

Raptors lead Hollinger's bench rating

6

Toronto is the NBA leader in a category created by ESPN's John Hollinger called "bench rating," which essentially estimates the PER (player efficiency rating) a team receives from its subs. It's the lack of a star in the first unit that keeps the Raptors lottery-bound.

Rogers in $1.3B talks to buy majority stake in Leafs empire

13

In what would be the biggest transaction in Canadian sport history, Rogers is in talks to buy the Toronto Maple Leafs in a deal worth more than $1 billion, sources said Tuesday. The sale would include the Raptors, Toronto FC soccer club and the Marlies, the Maple Leafs’ minor league hockey team. Buying a majority stake in Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan would transform Rogers, which already owns the Toronto Blue Jays, into one of the most powerful sports enterprises in North America. And here is a sample of the reaction from Twitter, courtesy of the Toronto Star. How do you think this rumoured deal will impact the Raptors' ability to build a championship contender? Let us know in the comments section.

Pat Riley to trade for Jarrett Jack?

4

From ESPN the Magazine's Ric Bucher: "Two different team executives said they expect the Heat to dangle $3 million and second-year PG Mario Chalmers to a lottery-bound team looking to shed the long-term contract of a mid-priced spot-up shooting PG. Riley's objective is to find another shooter to space the floor, a la BJ Armstrong or John Paxson in their Chicago days playing alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen." Bucher lists Toronto's Jarrett Jack and Cleveland's Daniel Gibson as potential targets.
