I've been an Avs fan since they started out, and a hardcore fan since the 2000/2001 season.

a fan of

Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball Team

Green Bay Packers National Football League Team

Ohio St. Buckeyes NCAA Men's Football Division 1A Team

Colorado Avalanche National Hockey League Team

Well, that was a fast 2-4 weeks.

Also, Cumisky has a groin concussion.

Mile High Hockey Opening night 2011/2012 - Foote or Forsberg?

With the recent retirement of Peter the Great, and the all but guaranteed retirement of Foote, it got me wondering. Who will the Avalanche honor on opening night? Early in the season, I figured Foote would be the next to go, and the next to have his jersey retired. Then the whole Forsberg thing happened.

So..... now what? Will they honor both in one night? Save one for a later home game? Save one for opening night 2012/2013 (A ridiculous idea, especially since that will probably go to Hejduk anyway)? I honestly have no idea what they'll do..... so what do you think?

They SAY it's an arm injury, and he's day to day. What do they really mean? I'm guessing he just had a leg amputated.

Pittsburgh (shocking, I know) will play the Caps at Heinz Field for the Winter Classic, and Calgary will host Montreal on February 20th. Thoughts? Complaints? Anyone else sick of seeing Pittsburgh featured in stuff like this?

According to the Denver Post. I say go for it! He's been solid this year, and he's a great captain.

Might we have a new nickname for ol' Radar?

Turns out we DO have a back-up goalie!

Dater also mentions that McLeod is in as well. And in another blog he mentioned that Tucker was skating at practice, with a non-contact jersey.

Dater thinks so. He also says that trading Svatos would be another possibility. Thoughts?

Mile High Hockey Foote, Lappy out, Raycroft in for tomorrow's game

More grim news for the Avs today guys...

The Avalanche will be without a pair of veterans when the club faces Nashville tomorrow, as defenseman Adam Foote and forward Ian Laperriere will not make the trip to Tennessee.

Foote suffered a tricep injury during Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Wild. The blueliner played briefly in the second period before leaving the game. He did not take part in practice Monday and is out indefinitely.

The Avalanche also played the third period of last night’s game without the services of Laperriere. The winger, who has been playing center of late, skated for just 9:03 before leaving the contest with a back injury.

“Adam has a tricep injury and he’s going to be reevaluated in the next few days,” said Avalanche head coach Tony Granato. “Ian should be day-to-day. He’s got a stiff back but won’t make the trip.”

Ben Guite is expected to jump back into the lineup tomorrow and replace Laperriere after being a healthy scratch against the Wild, while Daniel Tjarnqvist will likely take Foote's spot on the blue line.

Oh, and this too:

Andrew Raycroft will get the starting nod in goal for the Avalanche.

After the surgery, they'll have a better idea of how long he'll be out; likely 6-8 weeks. Oh, and McCormick is out thanks to a stress fracture in his foot. Woo hoo.

Apparently Guite had more than the "wind knocked out of him" in practice the other day. Looks like a rib injury. But in reality, he probably punctured a lung and experienced severe heart trauma as well. Sigh....

It's true. Barry Melrose is now the coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Dater had some interesting stuff to say in his last blog. He talks about Sakic, Theo, Foppa, and some random restaurant that he ate at. Check it out.

Mile High Hockey If not Q, then who?

Let me start off by clarifying that I am very much a part of the "Fire Quenneville" bandwagon. I don't think that this team has any hope of going anyhere but down as long as he is coach. However, I have no idea who could replace him. Is there a great, unemployed coach out there somewhere? Should we give overlook 2004 and give Granato another chance as the head man? Perhaps Saint Patrick could come kick the team in its collective rear? What are your thoughts on this?

Mile High Hockey Avalanche imitating the Broncos?

The recent play of the Avalanche has gotten me thinking. It seems like their past few seasons have resembled the last few seasons of the Denver Broncos. Check it out.

Last year, the Broncos playoff hopes were dashed in the last game of the year when they lost to the 49ers - The Avs playoff hopes ended in the second to last game of the season with the loss to Nashville.

In the offseason, the Broncos made several huge free agent signings: Travis Henry, Brandon Stokley, and Daniel Graham - The Avs also made several large signings with Smyth and Hannan.

The Broncos were crippled by injuries to key players: Travis Henry, Javon Walker, Tom Lepsis, John Lynch, Champ Bailey...etc. The Avs have also been plauged by injuries to Sakic, Sauer, Smyth, Richardson, Arnason, Leoprone(of course), and Laperriere, just to name a few.

People expected a great season from the Broncos, and they fell far short of that with their 7-9 record. - Nearly halfway through the Avs '07/'08 season, they have been incredibly inconsistant and largely disappointing.

I'm not trying to come up with any deep meaning through all of this, I just think there are some interesting similarities. Hopefully the Avs are able to turn their season around, unlike their Mile High neighbors.
