Yay! ESPN think Beal's good and stuff!

4

Bradford Doolittle (coolest analyics-guy name ever BTW), is ranking NBA players by position based on WARP, and he put Beal at #5 behind (in order) Wade, Harden, Ginobili, and Bryant. Louis Williams, JR Smith, Danny Green, Monta Ellis, and Kevin Martin round out his top 10. Obviously WARP isn't perfect, but it's nice for a Wizard to get a little love. Here's what he says: "I love it when the youngbloods crack these lists, and ATH loves Beal. I'm not thrilled the system is forecasting Beal to knock down 43 percent of his 3s, even though that's a strength in his game. That category is the most variable on a player's stat line, and I distrust such bold predictions. However consider this: The only teenager to ever shoot a higher percentage from deep with an above-average usage rate was Kyrie Irving. Beal is off to a great start." As an aside, he didn't have Wall in the top 10 PG ratings (he was in the next group outside the top 10), but he admitted that the PG pool is much deeper. So, do you guys think Beal can actually be top 5 SG this year?

ESPN Insider WARP draft rankings say Otto's 2nd, Bennett 8th, and Oladipo

ESPN Insider's Kevin Pelton released his 5-year WARP rankings for the draft, and not surprisingly, his system likes Otto as much as the other advanced metrics I've seen. But, since his model gives more weight to the age of prospects, you see names like Oladipo drop (to 17th!!) and Lucas Nogueira (who I'd love to steal late in the first) rise to 6th. No love for Len either. Worth the read if you have Insider. Here's the list: 1. Noel 2. Porter 3. Caldwell-Pope 4. Zeller 5. McCollum 6. Nogueira 7. Burke 8. Bennett 9. Carter-Williams 10. Karasev 11. Adams 12. Rice, Jr. 13. Larkin 14. Mitchell 15. Crabbe 16. Olnyk 17. Oladipo 18. McLemore 19. Bullock 20. Canaan 21. Franklin 22. Hardaway 23. Len 24. Dieng 25. Snell 26. Plumlee 27. Muhammad
