The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Week 1 (w/poll)

GOOD:  Michael Bush.  He showed why he can't be considered a #2 back....only a #1A.  Powerful legs that never stop churning and a heart as big as a watermelon go along with a surprising burst. ...

Ex-Raider Langston Walker cut by Bills

Normally I'd say "So what" but at this point I'm desperate to find anyone who might be an upgrade over Cornell Green

Seymour saga keeps getting weirder (updated)

4

Yesterday, Tom Cable said that he had spoken with Richard Seymour and had been told that Seymour wants to be a Raider. Cable then went on to say that issues with the Patriots are holding things up, though he didn't say whether that was told to him by Richard or not. The Patriots promptly denied it and since the transaction had gone out on the official league wire and no one at the NFL had any idea what Cable was talking about, it seemed he was wrong. But now the Boston Herald is reporting this: "According to a league source, the hangup appears to be a financial one with the Patriots" ...which would appear to vindicate Cable's statement. The writer also says that Seymour is still in Massachusetts, which contradicts reports that he would be reporting for a physical today. Never a dull moment here in Oakland UPDATE: Steve Corkran of the San Jose Mercury is reporting the following: "A person close to Seymour said that the five-time Pro Bowl selection was caught off guard by the news he had been traded to the Raiders and needed time to sort out his emotions." That makes sense. Seymour probably had no idea this was coming and being told that you have to ship out across the country after playing your whole career for one team has to be tough to handle. I hope he doesn't need more than a day to sort himself out though; we've got a big game Monday we need him for. If he's not taking his physical tomorrow and on the field Thursday, we'll be in trouble Another interesting quote from the article: "He's got to get here," one Raiders player said. "We need him. I don't care if he's mad. Maybe that will make him play even better." Read the whole thing here: http://www.mercurynews.com/raiders/ci_13287992

No sign of Seymour yet; another practice squad addition

1

In what I hope is not an ominous sign, David White is reporting there is no sign of Seymour yet nor has a locker been prepared for him. Also, he is reporting that Roy Schuening a guard from Oregon State has been signed to the practice squad. Finally, Desmond Bryant is now #90, vacant since Terdell Sands' departure. I hope he does more justice to the number than Sands ever did.

Confirmed: Raiders acquire Richard Seymour (and a poll!)(7th and final update)

Quite the bit of news to wake up to:  Adam Schefter is reporting the following on his Twitter: "Richard Seymour traded to Oakland for Raiders 2011 first-round pick." Wow.  Nothing on ESPN.com or...

Former Raider QB Andrew Walter Waived by Patriots

3

That one's gotta sting poor Andrew. Rather than keep him as 3rd string emergency, the Patriots opted to just keep two quarterbacks for now and probably sign someone released by another team who didn't even play a down with them in the pre-season. Ouch.

Why not a mock draft to tide us over?

I thought this might be a fun exercise.  Since not a single NFL regular season game has been played and the college season only just started, this is pretty obviously an exercise in absurdity. ...

Great article about J-Russ

Interesting piece detailing how the team has finally (only took 3 years!) decided to build the offense around the big man with the cannon arm they took #1 overall. What a thought!

Center position getting discouraging as Satale struggles

3

With the season rapidly approaching, the Raiders still have no idea who's going to be the starting center. According to this article, Cable is unsatisfied with Satele's play, particularly his ability to make adjustments on the line before the snap. As he says, in the ZBS, the center runs the show. Hopefully he can learn this in time, but on the other hand, he's had all of camp and pre-season. We shall see. John Wade is in his mid-30's and coming off another injury. Is Chris Morris good/experienced enough? He doesn't even appear to be in the conversation as starter, though he's a virtual lock to make the team because of his versatility.

Probable Cuts to 75 Man Roster Identified

Via his Twitter, Jerry McDonald is reporting Shawn Bayes, Will Franklin, Jonathan Compas, Marcus Johnson and Joe Cohen are all mysteriously absent from practice today. It makes sense that those 5 would be the first group to go.

Napoleon Harris = full of fail

4

At least so far. I know the guy has had like, what, two practices? But early returns are not encouraging. From David White's Twitter: "RB Michael Bush beats MLB Napoleon Harris for TD catch. Afraid it says more about Napo than anything else." And then later... "Shawn Bayes beats Napo Harris for TD. I'm afraid that tank is run dry."
