The receiver position is one of the more exciting positions in the NFL. The individual who is positioned to play it is usually a gifted specimen who is a play maker. What skills must this play maker have? The must possess the ability to run, jump and catch while under extreme pressure and disturbance. It is not a position everyone can play, even though so many think they can.

There is only one way you guys will get the most out of this post. It is by spending time on it and actually reading and watching the parts of the videos I tell you. Please, take your time with this post.

This year's draft contained a great amount of superstars who can play the wide receiver position. These individuals are Michael Crabtree, Jeremy Maclin, and Darrius Heyward-Bey. It is so hard to evaluate wide receivers because almost all of them are good, it just comes down to who is better and who fits better with their team and in the NFL.

Michael Crabtree - From all the tapes, hands-down, Crabtree has the best hands. He has the unique set of "Sticky Fingaz" that many dream about having. He runs good routes and is not given enough credit for his speed. He ran many screens in college because he was in a spread offense and it was the best way to utilize his speed. To be honest, I think Texas Tech used all of Michael Crabtree they could.

Jeremy Maclin - When I hear about him, I think explosion. He has a gear on him that when he hits, he flies by. He has the best acceleration from the three, but not the best speed. His gear falls off as he gets deeper into his runs. Route running is okay, but he ran extremely simple patterns in college that almost anyone can do. The only thing that separates him from the rest is his ability to make a play after the catch.

Darrius Heyward-Bey - You already know I'm about to break this guy down to the fullest. He is my favorite and for many reasons, not just because he is a Raider.

He possesses the best speed from any player in this year's draft. What does that mean, there is no way you can overthrow this kid. This kid has bailed out his quarterback so many times at Maryland that I can't even count. Check this video: I Believe He Overthrew The Pass With that speed, he can stretch the field and have his quarterback just throw it up for him to catch it. I like to add Jamarcus is the perfect candidate for this quarterbacking job. Check it out: Exciting!

He possesses the amazing ability to jump over the defender to fight for a ball. Again, his quarterback overthrew the ball, but Heyward-Bey went up to bail out his quarterback and catch the ball. Check this video: Only Watch 00:57 To 01:40. Also, look at him go up to make this catch. It is well overthrown and sort of behind him so he had to get up high and also slow down and take a hit and still catch the ball. Check it out: Only Watch From 05:45 To 06:07

He possesses the ability to make a game changing play from a disastrous play or even a small hole. He can add to a little 5 yard catch and make it a touchdown. Take a look: Check Him Out

He has faced double coverage and even triple coverage in his college career. He also faced some of the best like Alphonso Smith and more. However, he continued to showcase his brilliance each time he stepped on the field. Check it out: Watch Only From 00:37 To The End Also check this out: Watch From 01:41 To 01:54

Okay, this is Heyward-Bey getting the opportunity to get a taste of a spread offense...sort of. He gets a screen, just like Crabtree usually gets, and looks what he does with it: Only Watch From 07:37 To 08:05 (Also, the screen pass was behind him. What a garbage quarterback. I mean sheesh!)

Who likes players who are versatile? This kid can use his speed so many ways. I mean, Maryland knew this kid was their only player maker and they struggled so much to get him the ball that they soon had to do this. And still, this kid succeeded. Check it: Only Watch From 01:40 to 02:31. Here is another video (Yes, I know he didn't make the TD, but hey, it was amazing): Here It Is

Route running is so important to learn at an early age. This is something DHB already knows and it will be an advantage in the NFL. Receivers like Crabtree and Maclin have not had as much experience running in a pro-style offense and running pro-routes. They have not faced the corners or press coverage. DHB has, just take a look at this clean post route: Watch From 01:31 To 01:41

One thing I found out about this kid is that he makes the most out of his opportunities. Even though his team struggled to get him the ball, evey time he did get the ball, he had to put forward his very best ot make the catch. Take this video for example, he used all of his speed, height and reach to get away from the defender and make the catch.

The next one is the catalyst of why I think he is the best wide receiver from the bunch. He never complains, argues, or showcases rude behavior. Tell me a time when you heard, " Darrius Heyward-Bey was arrested for fighting or drugs." Never! He has the best character from the bunch and that is non-arguable. I mean, if I was the receiver from Maryland, I would've already made a case about how bad the quarterback at Maryland was, but I didn't hear one bad comment come from his mouth.

Work ethic. So important. From what I hear, DHB had to work for everything in his life. He was told he can't play football in college and look at him now. Now, people say he is not going to succeed in the next level. Do you think this will change him? Nope, this is motivation. Keep it coming baby. This kid is already showing signs of great work ethic and I can't wait for him to learn how to play wide receiver in the NFL.

This is the last reason. He is on a team that he fits in perfectly. Name one receiver on the Raiders who is as tall as DHB and can stretch the field? None. He is unique and he is something we don't currently have. We have speedsters, but they are small. We have giants, but they are slow. DHB is a mixture of both. Perfect fit.

This concludes my reasoning of why DHB is the best receiver of the bunch. I proved my points with conclusive evidence and I hope you agree with my resoning and appreciate my thoughts. Cheers to DHB!

Who is Frantz Joseph? O, I remember. He is the guy we just signed from the UDFAs. That's all. Wrong! This guy is one hell of a player. In fact, I wanted him in the fourth round of this year's draft, ahead of Jasper Brinkley. So, who really is Frantz Joseph?

3.0-15

The stats speak for itself. In 2007, he made 131 tackles and 2006, made 61. He was the team captain his whole career at Florida Atlantic. I know the sack column is not very impressive, but due to his tag of team captain, he was prevented from blitzing.

Character

When it comes to character, Frantz Joseph is the best. Did you know, he left Boston College, yes B.J Raji's college to play at Florida Atlantic. Why you ask? To support his mother. He left the prized education, fame, and his probably his 1st round pick at Boston College, to help out his mother. It doesn't get any better.

Achievements

Where do I start:

1. Named to the 2008 Lombardi Award Preliminary Watch List

This award is something given to only the best of the best of individuals who line up on the defensive side and play on the line of scrimmage, or 5 yards deep. Although he didn't win, for someone to achieve the honor of being put on that list is great. Brain Orakpo won that award by the way. The reason he didn't receive this award was because of his college and conference.

2. Butkus Watch List Member

This award is given to the best of the best from the linebackers in the NCAA. I think the only reason he didn't receive this award is because of his school and his college division. Again, being mentioned for this award is enough.

3. Holds The Single-Season FAU Record For Tackles

This shows that he was the leader not only by voice, but also by work ethic and play making. Anyone who leads a team in tackles shows that they have what it takes to make it into the next level. So for all you doubters, he can make that big tackle.

4. Selected Phil Steele's Mid-Season All-Sun Belt Second Team

At mid-season, he was on the All-Sun Second Team. Not bad, but this could've been a lot better. However, not that this was not the final team selection. It was the mid-season selection by Phil Steele.

5. Sun Belt Total Tackles Leader

What does this show you. He is the most dominant linebacker in his conference.
Since he made so many tackles, he definetely knows how to wrap-up and lay the big one.

6. Sun Belt Conference First-Team Member

What can I say. The best linebacker in his conference. He is the full package and is full of potential. He can cover, he can plug up the hole. The all around linebacker. Now, how can he not be successful in the next level.

Skills

I'll let the video below sum it up (I like to mention the video is of how good Frantz Joseph is under the most pressure, the Championship game.) Also, I will add one thing. He is pretty darn good in coverage for a college player. All he needs to work on are his speed and his reaction.

Frantz Joseph

Frantz Joseph Draft Analysis

Conclusion

In conclusion, Raiders fans should be very pleased and excited about this signing. He is definitely a gem in the dirt and I know he will make the team this year and be our back-up MLB and special teams player. In fact, look for him to start.

The Spirit Of The Run Game Is Back

Do you remember in 2008 season? That season, The Raiders were one of the elite running teams in the league. One can say it was our runningbacks. Some say it was our offensive line. Some even say it was Justin Griffin. I say, it was Oren O'Neal.

Oren O' Neal was the key ingredient in our spicy running game. He was the catalyst in our reaction. His presence single handed changed our run game from mediocre in 2006 to elite in 2007.

I say this because this year, we got to experience our run game without the presence of O' Neal. Our offensive line was the same as it was the year before with the same coach and didn't succeed as much as it did with O' Neal. Our running back core improved from 2007 and yet we were still ranked significantly lower than the previous year with O' Neal. This takes offensive line and running backs out of the equation for our successful run game. Also, the other fullback, Justin Griffin can be taken out of the equation also because he was garbage in run blocking in 2008. However, he did do an okay job run blocking in 2007. That leaves us with our fullback Oren O' Neal.

Oren O' Neal was special to our running game:

He helped Fargas get to 1,000 yards in just 7 starts.

He helped Lamont Jordan get 549 yards.

He also helped Dominic Rhodes get 302 yards in just 2 starts.

The best news of all of this post is the secret and key ingredient is returning this year once more to revitalize our run game. Can you imagine the enormous hole with D-Mac running through and taking it to the house. Or how about Michael Bush getting a block from O' Neal on one defender while exterminating the other with a shoulder right on the pad.

The running game has suffered for a year without his presence. It is about time he returns to lead the way back to the elite running game we had while he was our fullback.

Chris Johnson

This post is all about Chris Johnson. Even though Chris Johnson impressed this season, there are some doubters. This post is to fix that issue. Chris Johnson possess incredible speed that is vital to be successful in man-on-man defense.

Fitting In:

Chris Johnson is perfect for the defense the Raiders run. He is the perfect compliment for Nnamdi Asomugha. Since Nnamdi efficiently takes care of his side of the field, the quarterback can only look one way, opposite of Nnamdi. Also, the quarterback has to deal with our pass rush, which we all just found out, was pretty solid.

Skills:

This leaves Chris Johnson alone with the 2nd receiver of the opposing team, most of the time. His covering the 2nd receiver is sort of like underusing him because he can be a starter. Don't forget, he started every game Nnamdi wasn't playing. The Tampa bay game is the one that comes to mind. He kept Antonio Bryant shut down for most of the game. I also remember him surprising everyone by playing Nnamdi's man, Brandon Marshall against the Denver Broncos and shutting him down also. In other words, he is more of a capable starter than we think. However, against 2nd string receivers, he is amazing. He gave Eddie Royal hell when we played him. We all know what Eddie Royal can do, and he shut him down.

There's one thing about Chris Johnson I hate to admit. That is he is better at catching the ball than Nnamdi. He has the blazing speed to recover distance lost by cuts from opposing receivers and the distance lost by quarterbacks leading a receiver. This makes him better at getting the interception than any player on our defense. This is the reason he was the leading Interception leader on our team this year. I believe.

via abritishman.files.wordpress.com

Special Abilities:

Another upside to Chris Johnson is he has the big play ability. His quickness allows him to make interception after interception, while being able to return it for a Touchdown. I don't think he had any this year, but we all know we get off our feets once he intercepts a ball and begins turning up the field. He returned one against Denver, but the referees didn't want to disappoint the crowd and called a penalty. He also almost had one against the Chiefs, but fell one yard short. He is the person we thought we were going to get out of Deangelo Hall. He is the Deangelo Hall of man-on-man defense.

Additionally, Chris Johnson has great play recognition. He uses it for most importantly his pass game, but also for the run game. His experience is so vital to our defense. He made a lot of important tackles. The game against the Houston Texans, he showcased his tackling ability. I forgot who he tackled, but I know it was a great, open-field tackle. His presence helps our run defense which can only be a positive.

He also saved a couple blown plays this year against the Buccaneers and Texans.

Thus, one can see Chris Johnson is a great player for our defense. He fits in perfectly and his attributes are vital. He will be great this year and I plan to see his name appear more often within the NFL.

Not Giving Up On Huff

Everyone is saying Huff needs to go. I say, give him one more year to get used to his position or to be moved back to Strong Safety. This year is the perfect year for the Huff Experiment since Huff will earn a very acceptable pay, which is under 1 million dollars.

via images.usatoday.com

via www.raiderfans.net

I remember two years ago, Michael Huff was decent at Strong Safety and was coming along well. He as making great tackles and was just fitting in well with the team. Last year, he got to move to Free Safety. This movement is very tough, especially for a Strong Safety. They have to go from run stopping to pass preventing. It involves a lot more responsibility and a lot more speed. It takes a couple years to master this position, evident by players like Sean Taylor, Ed Reed and Brain Dawkins. All these players struggled at first, but eventually became great.

via www.raiders.com

Also, it is a good thing Michael Huff played Strong Safety for a little while. This will better prepare him for making touchdown-saving tackles and helping out in the run game from the Free Safety position. He is still a great player. We all, deep down inside, know, he is a great player. We just need to give him some time to recover from his wounds so he can become a good player.

via imgs.sfgate.com

The one upside to Huff is he is young and still has potential. He is a good talent, who can tackle. With the new and improved staff, there is no way of predicting how good Huff can be. I am willing to give Huff another year. Who is with me?

via i99.photobucket.com

Draft: Tackles (Defensive)

This year, one of the Oakland Raiders biggest needs is the defensive tackle position. The current players, Tommie Kelly, Terdell Sands, William Joseph, and Gerard Warren are getting old. Since old age is kicking in, they have less speed, power, and stamina. However, this year's draft contains a great class of defensive tackles. Which one is right for the Raiders?

1 - B.J. Raji

B.J. Raji was a three-year starter in the ACC. and was named to 1st Team All-ACC in 2008. B.J. Raji is suited for the 3-3, but can play the 4-3. Raji can become one of the best defensive tackles as long as he continues to work hard and maintain his weight.

Strengths

Outstanding mass and bulk...Excellent strength...Stout at the point of attack...Can fill two gaps...Able to occupy multiple blockers...Tough, powerful and nasty...A beast against the run...Can really collapse the pocket...Able to penetrate and make plays in the backfield...Above average athleticism...Quick and agile...Pursues well and has a burst to close...Good instincts and awareness...Will offer schematic versatility. - Draftcountdown.com

Weaknesses

Conditioning and stamina have been problems...Is shorter than you'd prefer...Maturity and commitment have been questioned...Doesn't always play with proper leverage...Inconsistent and his motor tends to run hot and cold...Is not an elite pass rusher...Struggled to keep up with his studies and intelligence may be an issue..Durability concerns? - Draftcountdown.com

via media.scout.com

2. Evander Hood

Evander Hood, a three year starter, is a good player. He is versatile, but not great at any one thing. Another advantage about Evander Hood is he is a late 1st round or even a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Strengths

Very good size and bulk...Active with a non-stop motor...Excellent speed and quickness...Uses his hands well...Strong with some power...Nice instincts and awareness...Stout at the point of attack...Gets upfield and can collapse the pocket...Does a good job in pursuit...Explosive with a burst to close...Sudden off the snap...Has a lot of experience...Extremely coachable...Hard worker...Teamleader. - Draftcountdown.com

Weaknesses

Plays too tall at times...Doesn't always use proper leverage...May not be a difference maker..Self-made player..Jack-of-all-trades, but master of none ... Has some minor durability concerns ... Average production. - Draft countdown.com

via cache.daylife.com

3. Peria Jerry

Peria Jerry will become a 25 year old rookie if he comes to the NFL. Peria Jerry was a 1st Team All-American in 2008 and was named 2nd Team All-SEC as a junior and 1st Team as a senior. He led SEC is tackles for loss in 2008, However, he has injury problems.

Strength

Very athletic...Terrific speed...Quick and explosive...Really fires off the ball...Active and has a fantastic motor...Does a nice job in pursuit and has a burst to close...Can penetrate and wreak havoc in the backfield...Uses his hands well...Shows the ability to shed blocks...Is comfortable in space...Pretty tough...Hard worker and leader...Great instincts and awareness...Productive against top competition...Still improving and might have some upside...Super impressive bloodlines. - Draftcountdown.com

Weaknesses

Does not have great size or bulk...Frame is awfully close to being maxed out...Not very strong or powerful...Isn't real stout at the point of attack...Has to be more consistent with his leverage...Can get pushed around in the run game...Struggled in the classroom and intelligence may be an issue...Older than the average prospect...Will not be a good fit for every team...Has some major durability concerns. - Draftcountdown.com

4. Fili Moala

Fili Moala's cousin is Haloti Ngata from the Ravens. Defensive line is in his blood. He is a three year starter who played with Sedrick Ellis two years ago. He is very quick, very aggressive and I mean very aggressive and mean.

Strengths

Excellent athleticism...Very quick and agile...Good speed...Adequate size with long arms...Has a big frame with room to grow...Active and does a nice job in pursuit...Good range and mobility...Can penetrate and slice into the backfield...Productive pass rusher...Decent instincts and awareness...Versatile...Good bloodlines...Great program pedigree. - Draftcountdown.com

Weaknesses

Inconsistent and disappears for stretches...Plays too tall at times and doesn't always use good leverage...Has some trouble getting off blocks...Does not use his hands well...Needs to get stronger...Is not overly stout at the point...Some minor durability and character issues. - Draftcountdown.com

via www.walterfootball.com

5. Mitch King

Mitch King really showed up at the Senior Bowl. This guy has a good motor, strength, but has tremendous speed. He was a 4 year starter in the Big Ten. he was named Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year as a senior and also earned numerous All-American honors. He lacks a lot of size, but his heart and motor is huge. He can use his speed to plug up holes as he showcased at the Senior Bowl. He was in almost every play.

Strengths

Good athlete...Great timed speed...Was very productive...Relentless with a non-stop motor...Does a nice job of getting off blocks...Is versatile...Good strength...Extremely aggressive...Plays with a nasty demeanor...Intense and competitive...Has a lot of experience against top competition..A hard worker and team leader with elite intangibles. - Draftcountdown.com

Weaknesses

May not have a true position...Undersized for a tackle...Short and slow for an end...Can be too aggressive and passionate at times...Average instincts and awareness...Pass rush repertoire is limited...Not very fluid...Has some trouble in space...Can get overpowered and engulfed. - Draftcountdown.com

6. Ron Brace

Three year starter for the Boston College Eagles. He played alongside B.J. Raji and complimented his at the dominating Eagle's defensive tackle position. He has great size and has a good motor. He really showed how good he was at the Senior Bowl. However, many speculate that he was good because of the presence of B.J. Raji alongside of him.

Strengths

Excellent size and bulk...Very quick off the snap...Great strength...Is stout at the point of attack...Does a terrific job against the run...Gets a good push up the middle...Will collapse the pocket...A powerful tackler...Shows the ability to shoot gaps and penetrate at times...Nice instincts / awareness...Lots of experience...Improving and has upside. - Draftcountdown.com

Weaknesses

Not a sack artist and repertoire of pass rush moves is limited...Does not always play with proper leverage...Still needs to use his hands better...Will get hung up on blocks...Conditioning and stamina might be issues...Has an inconsistent motor...Didn't face many double teams. - Draftcountdown.com

Draft: Tackles (Offensive)

Raiders fans, the draft will be here in a couple months. The most crucial and vital part of the team that needs to be improved from the draft is the Tackle position. Fortunately, this year's draft class possesses an impressive amount of talented Tackles. The top three that stick out are Eugene Monroe, Andre Smith, and Michael Oher. Who is right for the Oakland Raiders?

Eugene Monroe: 21 years old

Eugene Monroe is by far one of the fastest linemen out there. A perfect fit for the difficult tackle position. This 6'6, 315 pound specimen has one of the best legs ever seen on a linemen. He won the Jacobs Blocking Award for his impressive blocking. He lacks strength, but his friskiness makes him a powerful force. Additionally, all linemen in college are significantly weaker than the linemen in the NFL. So, he will have to work on his strength just like the rest of the linemen in this year's draft. However, not every linemen in the NFL has feet like this kid. There is one downside to Eugene Monroe. This is he hasn't faced difficult opponents in his college career. We will never know how good he really is until he arrives in the NFL. However, I would like to mention he faced one of the best defensive linemen from last year, Chris Long, at practice everyday. So, he does possess some experience. However, given time, he will turn into a force.

via media3.washingtonpost.com

Andre Smith: 21 years old

Andre Smith is probably the most impressive tackle from this year's draft. He is 6'4 and a big 330 pounds. He was a finalist for the Lombardi Award, an award given to the best offensive or defensive linemen or linebackers of the year. Unfortunately, he missed receiving the award by a couple votes. He is very impressive with his run blocking. He is the best, in my opinion, in this year's draft. Something the Raiders need to get McFadden, Bush, or Fargas going. He played his college career in the SEC, so he did go against difficult defensive opponents. He has a lot of power and enough speed to be very successful player in the NFL. All the scouts have this kid, Number 1, on their board. He is definitely the most prepared for the NFL than the other tackles. His strength is already at the NFL level and in a couple more years, he can only get better. The only issue with this kid is he missed the Sugar Bowl this year, against a good Utah team. This would've been a great test for the senior prospect, but he was suspended for this game. It wasn't a serious issue as said by the coach, Nick Saban, but it is something to keep in mind. Other than that, he is the best tackle in the draft. Getting him will secure the tackle position for years to come.

via www.bamafanforlife.com

Michael Oher: 22 years old

Next to Andre Smith, he is the second best tackle in the draft. This 6'5, 325 pound giant is a great blocker. In fact, he was considered one of the best from his freshmen year in college. He moved around everywhere on the line so he is familiar with a variety of blocking schemes. Additionally, this means he is both fast and powerful. He played in the SEC so everyone knows he faces tough defenses. He was supposed to come to the draft last year, but decided to stay back. Now, he is more than ready for the draft. Some even say he might be better than Andre Smith. He was named First Team Freshman All-SEC a couple years back and he has gotten better ever since. This talent can insure the Raiders at the tackle position for numerous years to come. The only bad thing about this kid is he is the oldest from the rest of the pack coming into the draft. However, he is still 22.

Coaching: Head Coach

Do the Raiders really need a new coach? Is Tom Cable not doing his part? I think about this everyday.

Tom Cable:

We all know he ended the season with a 3-3 record, but he did manage to take our losing mentality away from us. He turned a team that had no respect in the league, to a team that prevented the Bucaneers from making playoffs, causing division rivals, the Bronocos, to hit a downfall by manhandling them at their homefield, and murdering a team that beat the best team in the league, the Texans, who were also on a 4 game win streak.

Tom Cable believed in the team that had nothing to play for and now, we have confidence in our team. A part of me wants to keep him and a part of me wants him back at the line so a new coach can come in.

The reason I want a new coach is Tom Cable needs some work with play calling at times. He is a little crazy at times. Also, sometimes I think his football IQ is not very high. I mean, it is high, but other coaches just know more than him.

So, do we need a new coach?

via www.panthers.com

Marty Schottenheimer:

His last season in the NFL, he was 14-2. He coached the rival Chargers well, but couldn't get a playoff win. He has a good coaching philosophy and a winning career. His career stats are 205-139-1. That's 205 wins, 139 losses, and 1 tie. He knows how to work both the run game and the pass game together. He pretty much made the Chargers. He will improve our offense big time while helping the defense out. He has the power to balance out our offense and make us a playoff contender.

via i.a.cnn.net

Steve Mariucci:

We all know Steve Mariucci is a quarterbacks coach. He worked with Steve Young, Brett Favre and many more. He would work wonders with Jamarcus Russell and just make the whole offense a lot better, which is what we need. He has a very high football IQ and knows how to call plays well. He can make accurate Quarterbacks out of anyone and teach them how to scramble. He may be the best coach to go with if we want to develop Russell.

via i.a.cnn.net

Jim Fassel:

Yes, we know he sent a letter to Al Davis saying he is interested in the head coaching job. This means he has respect for Al Davis, which Al loves. However, this would mean the return of Jim Fassel to the Raiders. He was a Offensive Coordinator from 1990-1992 for the Raiders. He works with the offense most of the time, but he has worked with some great defenses in his time. For example, the Ravens and Giants. We would be very good with Fassel because he is tough on his players like Jon Gruden was. He will make sure penalties are gone from the team. Discipline is the name of the game with Fassel and we need it badly.

via www2.jsonline.com

Jim Harbaugh:

He also wants to be the Raiders next head coach. He has done an okay job at Stanford and is looking to make it to the NFL. His college record is 38-21, which is ok in college. It could be better. Also, he worked with the Raiders in 2002-2003. He was the quarterbacks coach and offensive assistant coach. He was there during the glory days. So, can he return us there? He is sort of like a Lane Kiffin though. However, I think he understands how Al Davis works.
