Blogging The Boys Team Injuries

Over the last several years, the Cowboys had few injuries compared to most teams. Could this be luck? A little maybe, but some teams always seem to have few injuries and others a lot. I think this is due to the way the Cowboys train, (Including limited tackling), conditioning program and players who are not injury prone. I am sure one of the stats guys could do a great article to prove this.

The OL line is old and they could have some key injuries this year. However, they are not injury prone which could result in another year of being healthy for the most part.  The Cowboys as a group seem to get injuries that only costs them to miss a few games instead of season ending injuries.

Blogging The Boys Thank You Eagles & Broncos

After finally winning a playoff game, we owe this to the Eagles and Broncos. First, after that 44-6 debacle last year, Jerry got smart and made the changes needed. Otherwise, I think, many of the same characters would be back. In addition, Cowboys went for the lesser known free agents who were huge for the success this year.

As for the Broncos, the injury to Roy Williams, led to the Cowboys finding out how good Miles Austin is. It is nice to get T.O.'s production without the drama.

Also, I was reading some of the old posts from our buddy on the Eagle site (Bye Dawk) and he was really wrong about the Cowboys. He said 3 teams got better and 1 team did not. Also, he was harshed on almost all the Cowboy defense especially the DE, all LB's except Ware and James and the secondary. The Cowboys could not have picked a better team to end their streak.

One last thing, we can finally put 44-6 to bed after knocking the Eagles out the playoffs. Now, it is time to see how they will do against a tough Vikings team. Go Cowboys and I wonder if Tex is ok, since the Cowboys won.

Blogging The Boys Peter King's - All Pro Team and the Surprise Cowboy on the List (Bye Dawk will Disagree)

I even saw the player on the front page of the article and did not pay attention. It is one of Bye Dawk's favorite players #93 OLB A. Spencer. I don't know whether he deserves it, but he has really stepped up his game.

He played the run well early in the season and was just missing sacks. The last 6 to 7 games, he has been a monster and has helped made the Cowboys an elite defense. Let's see  if Spencer can keep it up for 4 more games.

Blogging The Boys Cowboys are Reactive instead of Proactive

How many times has Wade mentioned that the defense had to adjust to what the offense was running? If that is the case, why would the Cowboys on the last 2 plays against the Broncos react to their 8 man line?

They should have spead the Broncos out with 4 Wrs / TE especially with Witten and say rush 8 if you like. Besides, you could have rolled Tony to one side or the other to make it more difficult. Instead of forcing other teams to change, teams are doing that to the Cowboys.

There are two strategies that give Tony problems. They are to rush 6 or 7 or create confusion by not lining up right away in their final position. Just use some quick counts and catch them out of position and increase the odds of a RB breaking a big play. The short pass across the line of scrimmage to a RB chipping to block will slow the all out blitz, because all 3 RBs can turn it into a big play. Once they bust one or two, the opposing D will back off.

If I were the Cowboys, I would try to run the ball, use the screen pass and especially pass to the RB's coming out of the backfield. How many times, have I seen a RB or Te on the opposing team to stay in to block and then release and have plenty of room to run.

The Cowboys strength is RB & TE and they don't take advantage of this enough. It will slow the blitzers down especially with a missed tackle or two, you have a big play that is safe to throw. This would also loosen the defense, so Tony could take some 1 on 1 shots down the field. Besides, in Dec. using your RBs and TE's to the fullest can result in a winning record. The Cowboys have depended too much on the big pass and that can be taken away especially by good teams in cold or windy weather.

I just like to see the Cowboys impose their will on a team for a change. I believe by doing so, they would not fold late in the season and could be a tough team to beat.

Blogging The Boys What if Tony Romo........

What if Tony Romo in the first 4 games of the season has 1 TD and 9 INTs and lost every game, what would be the reaction by the fans? Well, I just want some fans who have given up on Tony, to think about this.

These numbers are from a QB with 7 years experience in 2007. Fortunately, his team was smarter than the fans. Who was this lousy QB? None other than Drew Brees. He turned around his season in 2007 and has been superb since.

Tony may never produced results like Brees, but to say he will always be a loser and has reached his peak may not be true. I still think Tony can be a very good or even possible elite QB, but will wait and see what happens.

One last thing, there was another QB in 2007 at the beginning of the season, many fans thought was overrated and the team should give up on him. His name, Eli Manning. How has he done since then? It just proves patience can pay off big time for your team. Besides, it is not easy finding good QBs.

Blogging The Boys So, Tony Romo Never Wins a Big Game

Typical of fans, they overreact to a good win or a bad loss. The game was disappointing, but in the end, if the defense makes a stop, the Cowboys win and they are 2-0 with several games in a row they should win.

Tony Romo was horrible and yet he led them to a go ahead score the last time he was on the field. As for Tony and big games, it seems all the games he loses are big games and the ones he wins do not matter.

Tony Romo has a winning record against the Giants and they all have been big games. Remember, last year's game, they needed to win and Tony got hurt and was questionable. He "gutted" it out and led them to victory. The Eagles game at home in 2008 was just as big as this one and the Cowboys somehow managed to score over 40 points to win.

The Bears, both Giants game and Packers in 2007 were all huge games also that the Cowboys won. There are plenty of other examples. By the way, the game Tony dropped the field goal snap, Tony the QB drove them down the field. Yet, once again, if the defense makes a stop, the odds are good Tony delivers once more.

I understand about fans having different opinions than mine. However, if you really think Tony Romo is terrible and you don't like Jerry Jones, you will save yourself a lot of grief by not watching the Cowboys and become a fan of another team. Here are a few facts.

1. Jerry Jones will be the GM and not hire a so called "football man". After that Stephen Jones will probably do the same.

2. Tony Romo will be the QB for the Cowboys for at least 2 more seasons. Plus, there is no guarantee any QB coming out will be better. You will defintely not find one in the Free Agent market.

3. There are 14 games still to go. The season is not won or loss now.

Cowboy fans get off the ledge. Now, we shall see about team chemistry. It is easy to have chemistry while winning, but now is the time for the Cowboys to regroup. Let's see how they play next week, before you shouls start to panic.

Blogging The Boys Does a Super Bowl Ring make for Greatness?

Is having a ring make a QB great? After reading numerous sites, it appears many people equate a ring with greatness. Big Ben has two rings, but he was awful in his first Super Bowl, while Warner had a very good Super Bowl and did not win last year.

It took Peyton Manning numerous attempts to win a ring. He choked in college every year, they won the title the year after he left, and he gets credit for being a top 5 QB all time. His team got blasted 41-0 in the playoffs by the Jets early in his career.

Eli Manning gets a lot of credit, but the defense and that pass rush especially won them a Super Bowl. A lucky catch on a heave downfield and an easy dropped interception and he would still be a loser.

Donovan McNabb has won many playoff games, but never the big one. I don't like the Eagles, but he is a good QB. Does winning a Super Bowl make him great?

This brings me to Tony Romo. He has not played great in his two playoff appearances, but not bad either. I think there were plenty of other reasons why the Cowboys lost those games.

It took John Elway his entire career to win a Super Bowl. His last two years were not his best, but the team was better.

I have been on this site since last year, but recently signed up to be able to post. I am curious to hear what some others think about this topic.Personally, I think the QB gets too much credit or blame depending on which side they are on.
