The Epitome of Chiefs vs. Raiders

Raider Week. It's something that Marty Schotteheimer declared as a Kansas City Holiday... but the rivalry went back further than that. It's an age old rivalry in the NFL, one of the first. It used to mean a lot... but the rivalry has died down in the past. Both teams fell into a slump and the games became meaningless... not this week though. Raider Week is back, and it finally means something again. And that got me to thinking... Just how much does Chiefs vs Raiders really mean? And this is the conclusion I came to: The entire Raiders organization is the antithesis of what the Chiefs are... maybe more now than in the past.

NFL Illegal Hit Policy: Something to Watch
As we all know, the NFL is cracking down on defenders laying "illegal" hits on offensive players. James Harrison's $75,000 fine shows how serious they are and how harsh they will be if they deem a defender the deliverer of an illegal hit. Last Thursday the NFL released a player safety video that distinguished a legal hit from and illegal hit, and sent it to all 32 teams. Some of the legal hits were still questionable, like Jarad Page's deemed "clean hit"... but Page got flagged at the time the hit happened. The video may have caused more questions than it answered. More after the jump...
Just How Good is Charles?
As it usually goes, some spirited debate here got me talking about and researching a subject. I made the statement that there isn't a running back in the NFL that I would take over Charles. Some members challenged me on that so I had to get to looking at it. Just how good is Jamaal Charles? Where does he stand when compared to the other running backs in the NFL? So I got digging through NFL.com's stats for the 2010 season and started looking at where Charles sits in the stat book... And all I can say is that this is freaking insane:

NFL Players Are On Notice
In the wake of the buzz around head injuries and illegal hits, NFL Vice President of Football Operations, Ray Anderson, narrates a video showing legal and illegal hits. Current Chiefs FS Kendrick Lewis makes a cameo... as does former Chiefs SS Jarrad Page.
Jackson Rejoins Chargers
Breaking News on NFL front page... no full story yet. He's reporting back on OCT. 29th.
Damn. Looks like the Chiefs need to hold their 2 game lead.
Jaguars vs. Chiefs: Ask Arrowhead Pride
Good afternoon Jags fans! I saw that Jonathan Loesche added a post over at Arrowhead Pride (AP), and we tend to like to return the favor. Feel free to ask any questions you have about the Chiefs and their coaches, and the AP fans will try and give as good an answer as we can.
Here's to a (hopefully) good game on Sunday, and very few injuries to either team.

Week 5: What We've Learned About the Chiefs
Well that didn't go as planned. I was really hoping to see more of the same from week 3. In which I mean a well balanced offensive attack that kept the opponent's defense reeling. Still... this loss to the Colt's isn't a bad thing. We've learned some interesting things about our team, and I don't see any reason why this loss should temper any of the optimism that has been overflowing from Kansas City and it's fans.

Moeaki and McCluster make the "NFL RedZone top 10" for week 3
McCluster and Moeaki both make the list... can you guess who lands where?
Just finished watching the 2nd half of the CLE game again:

Madden 11: A Chiefs Review
Well, Madden NFL 11 has hit the shelves. I had mine preordered through Wal-Mart and delivered today. Unfortunately I received a completely smashed game case, with the outer plastic wrap tore to hell. Thanks Fed-Ex. Luckily the game was in good shape. Now I'm not big on buying Madden every year, since it tends to be a regurgitated version of the previous year's release... but I couldn't pass up the chance to play with a rising Jamaal Charles, two speedster rookies in Berry and McCluster, and oh, yeah... Thomas Jones. Last years lackluster roster had me skip on the 2010 release. This year was just too enticing. After the jump I've got my thoughts and impressions on the Chiefs in Madden 11.

FanPost vs. FanShot
Well, it's that time of year again. The time when AP comes back to life and members start posting regularly again. On top of that, the Chiefs have had a killer offseason, so AP is crawling with "newbs" right now. I see a lot of new members that have great passion for the Kansas City Chiefs, which is awesome. Unfortunately, Arrowhead Pride is having some problems from that. Not pointing out any offenders here, but I think it's time we went over the difference between a FanPost and a FanShot.

Chargers' 3rd Round Pick Out For Season
Chargers' 3rd round pick, LB Donal Butler is out for the season with a torn achilles tendon.
Also... Tra Thomas will be out for at least 2 weeks because of knee surgery...
Let's hope the Chiefs can continue to stay healthy.
PFT Rates 2007 First Round Picks
Gregg Rosenthal over at Pro Football Talk is slummin' like the rest of us, so he's evaluating each of 2007's first round picks, since, you know, it takes 3 years to properly criticize a draft.
Dwayne Bowe gets a "good" rating. Not "home run" or "great", but "good". I think that's fair. JaMarcus got a category all to himself.
Front Page Love for Chiefs on NFL.com
Interesting article by Bucky Brooks on NFL's front page. Brooks breaks down the basic philosophy of Crennel's defensive scheme and gives some love to Brandon Flowers and Eric Berry. A little bit of Chiefs nostalgia mixed in too. Check it out.
Good to see that some folks in the national media are getting wise...
Well... I'm not a Millionaire. Damn.
Well... I'm not a millionaire. Some lucky a-hole in Ohio robbed me of my 260 million dollar powerball jackpot dream. It looks like I don't get to retire at the ripe age of 26... yet. Oh well. It's always fun to ponder over what you can do with a couple hundred mil. After the essentials (you know... car, house, providing for my family(ies), giving to charity, etc.) I eventually got to thinking about the Chiefs and the outrageously fun stuff I could do as a die hard fan if I had a couple million to blow on what is already one of my favorite hobbies... Think of the possibilities. Such as a van like the one in the movie Old School ... only instead of a black monster, mine would be decked out in Chiefs gear and colors. With solid gold rims. A true Red & Gold Beast... hah. With a bad ass sound/theater system to blast the Chiefs pre-game show in Arrowhead's parking lot every home game. My little tailgaiting monster.
We Did It To Ourselves...
Well guys, it's over. The draft that we have been mocking, debating and anticipating for the last 5 months is finally over. Who saw this coming? I don't think any of us here at AP saw it coming. I'll be the first to admit that I saw a need and had a NT, like Cody or Troup, circled in as a guaranteed pick. I saw the perceived need to upgrade our ILB position with at least one high round draft pick. As usual, the proven saying of "hind sight is 20/20" may just ring true in this particular case. We were so sure that we had the Chiefs' needs pegged that we might have just flat out ignored the message that was being sent from Arrowhead. In short, I think many of us are freaking out and feeling disappointed because we may have done this to ourselves...

Eric Berry on The Petros and Money Show 4/15
Eric Berry was on the Petros and Money Show last night on 610. Intersting stuff here. He talks about how Georgia failed in recruiting him, so he made it a mission to stay in the SEC to make them pay. He also talks about his favorite NFL safeties, what his draft day plans are, and more. Listen to the shoulder pad comment. LOL.
With the 27th pick in the 2010 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select...
As some of you know, last night's front page post on Cody having a personal workout with Crennel got me thinking about a trade possibility. Let's just settle this thought now: Pioli isn't going to draft Cody at 5 (sorry Steve :). There's too much talent that will be available at #5 to take such a high risk on a guy that has too many question marks. His work ethic and weight issues are too intimidating to warrant that pick. He didn't have the best combine work out. His bench press reps (22) were not that impressive for a position that requires massive strength to play. For comparison, Cam Thomas put up 31 reps. Dan Williams put up 27. And, by the way, it would really suck to have a #5 overall player busted for diuretics this year... I'm just saying. He dropped a lot of weight fast.
One thing is obvious about Cody though. The guy can play football. That's really the only reason that draft boards have him ranging from the mid 1st to late 2nd rounds. There's just something about him. He dominated at the NT position for the NCAAF National Champions, Alabama. The guy has talent, it just needs to be reigned in and coached up. We need a NT. Our 3-4 defense is dependent on it. That's why after the jump, I'll explore what I think is the most likely scenario to us drafting Mount Cody.

NOT DRAFT RELATED!!! (YAY) (updated V2)
It's that time of year. A month before the draft and every possible mock scenario has already been hashed and rehashed... several weeks ago. I grow tired of this, and the endless parade of "here's my mock draft" and "who do you guys think we will pick" and for God's sake we now have TWO "projected" rosters for 2010 put up less than 24 hours from each other, including drafted players. Seriously. It's a month before the draft.
After the jump I have something that might help break the monotony of the repetitive nature of recent fanposts. I challenge each and every one of my fellow APers to attempt to come up with unconventional ways to talk Chiefs without predicting a draft pick. At least for now. Seriously, we need to pace ourselves. Tell a story about a Chiefs memory. Write a song or poem. Share interesting or funny Chiefs related pictures. Something. Anything. So. What's my method for distraction?

Why? I'll tell you why!
From the FanPosts -Joel
So the question has been tossed around here a lot in the last week or two. Why? Why are we getting these quality free agents at bargain bin prices? Why are these veteran players that have the chance to play for a contender choosing the rebuilding 4-12 Chiefs? A lot of us have been pondering this, I’m sure. Joel himself mentioned earlier that he’s "not sure what the case is, but [he] likes it".
I’m not going to pretend to have any special insight to this topic, and my guess is as good as anyone’s, but my thoughts and speculation as to why we’re quietly drawing in solid players at bargain prices is explained after the jump. BTW, get a cup of coffee or something, it's kind of a long post :)

Rich Eisen runs the 40 yard dash
NFLN analyst Rich Eisen, in what has recently become an end of the combine event ran the 40 yard dash. He clocked in at 6.25. Put that into perspective for the 350 lb Terrence Cody, who ran a 5.64.
NFL's Bucky Brooks' Mock Draft 1.0
Bucky Brooks over at NFL.com has KC taking DE/LB Derrick Morgan from Georgia Tech at 5 overall.
You're probably wrong there Bucky.

Some of you guys might recognize me as a somewhat regular commenter on a lot of AP’s fantastic threads. I figured it was time for me to cement myself as a regular contributor to this excellent blog and community by attempting my first relevant FanPost.
