Pac-12 Week 2 Awards

Sorry I didn't get this out last week. Stanford's lack of play last weekend had me completely forgetting about this. In any case, who's on top of the world and who's dwelling in the cellar this...

We're getting new HD scoreboards, new clocks, and a new wraparound digital board to replace the two small boards at midfield. Everything will be ready by the first game.

Stanford 20, San Jose State 17: Nunes & Amanam Impressive, Defense Not-so-much, Remember UC Davis?

Stanford had a rough outing against their South Bay brethren Friday night, but managed to eke out the win 20-17 against San Jose State in their season opener at Stanford Stadium Friday night.

ASU to Overhaul Game Day Experience

ASU's working with Disney (insert your own joke here) on how to create a better game day experience for its fans at football games. Most of the ideas are pretty sound and make sense for a middle-of-the-desert school, but they want to use "Hell's Bells" now on third downs. Really? If snatching the "Fear the Tree" slogans from Stanford and turning them into "Fear the Fork" shirts wasn't enough, now they want to usurp our bell tolls? If ASU was a part of a different conference, I wouldn't mind, but it is.

Sorry East Coasters: some Pac-12 football (and basketball?) games may only be carried regionally

Did the Pac-12 double cross us? Not all football games are going to be shown live nationally.

Dean Julie to Step Down As Dean of Frosh & UG Advising

One of the most important figures in getting the undergrads involved in Stanford Athletics for the past decade, Julie Lythcott-Haims, is stepping down from her post as associate vice provost for undergraduate education and dean of freshmen and undergraduate advising. If you ever attended a Stanford football game within the past ten years, there's a high probability that you saw her roaming the track (and then the stands) along the student section.

Want more reason to hate USC?

CalBear81 has done an excellent job over at CGB recounting what may be the first instance where the NorCal schools butted heads with USC, causing a Stanford home game to be played somewhere no one could have expected.

Stanford a Three-Seed in NIT Postseason Tournament

Stanford has made it back to the postseason! The 32-team NIT Tournament has chosen Stanford as a participant. The Cardinal takes on Cleveland State at Maples this Tuesday, March 13, at 8PM. The game will be televised on ESPN2. The winner will take on either Ole Miss (in Mississippi) or Illinois State. The NIT Tournament is notable because it features four Pac-12 teams, including #1 Washington, #3 Oregon, and #1 Arizona (in the same part of the bracket as Stanford).

Logan Couture has moved on

I know that more than a few of you will be pleased to know that life post-Jamie for Mr. Couture is going splendidly. Look what he's up to now. Sharing popcorn in the back row of a movie theatre...

Buck/Cardinal did a fantastic little piece on one of Stanford's longest tenured head coaches, the man known simply as "Nine".

So What Turf is Stanford Playing On Next Season?

Stanford has made a decision on the turf at Stanford Stadium for next season.

It's that time of year: Is Johnny Dawkins officially on the hot seat?

Has Johnny Dawkins improved Stanford basketball? Or are we watching the final games of Dawkins as head coach?

Shayne Skov Booked for DUI

Is this a Fulmer Cup offense? We're about to find out. More on this tomorrow from Scott. Oh dear.

Tarver leaves for across the Bay

Jason Tarver, co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Cardinal, has decided to move on back to the NFL with the Oakland Raiders as their new defensive coordinator. You may remember Tarver as a coach who graduated from Santa Clara (which does not play football) with a bachelors of science in chemistry and a master's degree from UCLA in biochemistry and molecular biology. We wish Coach Tarver all the best in his new endeavors with the Raiders.

Kiffin also admitted that he fully expected Murphy, Peat or [Kyle] Dodson to sign, with the Trojans believing at one point last week they were leading in the chase of both Murphy and Peat and believing Wednesday they were first or second in the chase of all three prospects. "To go 0-for-3 there, I thought we would have at least went 1-for-3," Kiffin said, continuing with the baseball analogy. "And I certainly didn't think two of them would go to the same school." "...Our bullpen got rocked."

Worst Fears Realized: Big Game in October 2012 and USC-Stanford Played Before Classes Start

The Pac-12 released today a controversial schedule for Stanford's 2012 football campaign. Among the notables includes Big Game in October.

Robert Griffin III Wins Heisman; Luck 2nd

In a somewhat disappointing result for Andrew Luck in his final season at Stanford, Baylor's Robert Griffin III has won the 2011 Heisman Trophy. Griffin received 405 first place votes and 1,687 points to Luck's 247 first place votes and 1,407 points. Stanford University now holds the dubious honor of being the only school in Heisman history to have a runner-up three consecutive years. Congratulations goes out to Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck, and the other Heisman finalists.

WSU Hires the Pirate

The Pac-12 has amongst its coaching ranks Chip Kelly, Lane Kiffin, Rich Rodriguez, and now Mike Leach.

We're Going Bowling!

For only the second time in school history, Stanford has recorded 11 wins in the regular season with its 28-14 defeat of Notre Dame.

Men's Soccer Head Coach Bret Simon Resigns

A bit of sad news this morning as 11-year head coach Bret Simon resigned this morning effective immediately after going 6-10-2 this past season. The eleven seasons included three NCAA postseason appearances with a College Cup championship appearance in 2002.

Stanford Coughs Up Victory to Ducks; Luck Loses Heisman?; CU NOT the Worst Pac-12 Team

In one of the biggest games in Stanford football history, the Cardinal couldn't keep up as the Oregon Ducks cruised their way to a 53-30 win at Stanford Stadium.
