Niners Nation Crabtree speaks

Amongst stalled contract talks, Michael Crabtree took a moment to share his feelings today. "This is not about football, this is about M.O.N.E.Y" (note: Crabtree actually said "dot" after each letter)

"I don't want the 49ers to guarantee that I will be super rich," Crabtree said with smirk, "I think (and everyone who kisses my ass all day) says I deserve to be super-mega rich."  He also referenced his childhood idol, boxing legend Michael Tyson, when he said "(Tyson) blew through way more than $20 million. I want to do that too."

Asked if he is anxious to get on the field, Crabtree replied: "Yeah I like the field, it's green like M.O.N.E.Y"  When asked who should be the starter Shawn Hill or Alex Smith - Crabtree wasn't sure because he didn't know who got paid more.  "Tell me who gets paid more and I tell you who the starter is!"

The interview was ended early because something shiny caught his eye and he had to go refresh the page on his online bank account.

...and if you ask for a link to this interview, that will be funnier than the article.

Niners Nation Last Chance for Vernon

I don't know about you, but I was excited by the Vernon Davis pick a few years ago.  We desperately needed a playmaker and, I think it was Mike Nolan (correct me if i'm wrong) said, "not only is he the best tight end in the draft but the best receiver too."  Well that has not turned out to be the case.

I'm not going to get into numbers, because we all no there not good.  Each year we keep hearing about how much he has progressed and each year he come's up short.  The part that gets me is his attitude.  I can specifically remember him catching a 4 yard pass in a PRESEASON game and taunting Shaw(u)n Merriman "lights out."

So hear we are in 2009.  We have a offensive coach who will use the tight end.  We have a good running back and a good set of wideouts.  There is no excuse for him not to come up with his best season.  And if he doesn't what are our options moving forward.

There have been some suggestions, which started out as humorous, to convert him to another position.   So I leave it up to you, Niner Nation,  if VD sucks this year and never learns how to read defenses what do we do?
