Is the Pac-12 better than the SEC this season?

Bill Connelly of Football Study Hall looks at the question and offers some strong evidence in favor of the guys from the West Coast.

Huskies Crushing the Advanced Metrics

My cyber-colleague Huck L. Berry over at Barking Carnival (an excellent SBNation blog that follows the Texas Longhorns) has just posted his update to his advanced stats web site,

Featured Fanpost: Keith Price Gets No Respect

Keith Price is putting up elite numbers without elite respect.

The Tempo (R)Evolution

The HUNH Virus is Spreading, leading to more plays per game and more offense, generally. The Big Ten appears to be cool zone and may have genetic immunity.

Tempo after 3 weeks

Which conferences and teams are playing fast and which ones aren't?

Why So Many Yards and So Few Points?

I was at another site earlier today and saw a discussion of why the Huskies have managed "so few" points despite being among the national leaders in total offense. Predictably, a whole host of...

Looking beyond the Box Score

Looking at some of the statistical highlights of the new Washington offense so far this season.

A little background on Idaho State

I really don't want to be mean about this, because I feel kinda bad that Washington is even playing Idaho State, but the Bengals are probably the worst football team that the Huskies have faced in...

Pace of Play Analysis - Game 2

The Washington Huskies averaged 21.8 seconds of possession time per offensive snap in their victory over the Fighting Illini in Chicago. That compares to an average of 20.5 seconds per snap in the...

A look at the distribution of FBS college football players according to their home state.

Xs and Os Wonkery: Leverage, Numbers, and Green Grass

I saw this link when I was browsing through Smart Football, Chris Brown's excellent blog. It is pretty basic stuff, but the beauty of football is that for all of its complexity, it can (sometimes)...

Kearse FTW

Seeing a local product, home town hero, UDFA and all around good guy Jermaine Kearse make a BIG, big play for the Seahawks is fun. Behold: Jermaine Kearse's Game Winner against Panthers

BYE Week TV games worth watching

If you aren't familiar with the TV schedule site, it is worth bookmarking. On that site the game times listed are Central. Below they are Pacific. Cincinnati at Illinois 9:00...

The Details: Washington Made a Memory

Pretty cool story by Mason Kelly on the Coach Sark Blog

First and Third Downs against BSU

In charting the game I have noticed something pretty interesting, which explains (or maybe effectively describes) why the Husky offense was so effective against Boise. The Huskies' average gain on...

Understanding the New Husky Offense: A Syllabus

There are some great resources on the web that are available to help fans who are interested understand football concepts and tactics better. Here are some that apply to some of the new directions...

Featured Fanpost: Pace of Play Analysis - Game 1

I'll try to post one of these for each game. I am going to track each drive this season, in addition to charting plays. The Washington Huskies averaged 20.5 seconds per offensive snap on Saturday...

Best Coaches: Mike Riley

Oregon State's Mike Riley is, statistically, one of the best coaches in the country. His 2013 campaign didn't start out very well, but that doesn't dampen his overall coaching impact through the...

Best Coaches: Urban Meyer

Ohio State's Urban Meyer is, statistically, one of the best coaches in the country. But what exactly happened in 2010?

Best Coaches: Bret Bielema

Bret Bielema is one of the best coaches in the country.

Best coaches: Mike Gundy

The effect of Mike Gundy's coaching on the Oklahoma State Cowboys has been incredibly positive.

Talent vs. Coaching, Part Deux

What happens when we include and the Sagarin Predictor in a study about coaching effects and the impact of coaching versus talent?

Coaching vs. "Apparent Quality"

Looking at how much teams’ accumulated talent, per the recruiting services, explained their success (or lack thereof) on the field.

Bellevue Beats Euless Trinity 31-24 in OT; Jack Shines

Hopefully Sark or one of his staff was able to carve out some time to watch this game. Because if he did, I've got to think that LB/RB Myles Jack has moved up the recruiting board. Although Jack is a verbal to UCLA, he has been a frequent visitor to Husky practices during fall camp. Rumor has it that the Huskies haven't been feverishly pursuing Jack due to concerns about grades and other issues. Reportedly Jack is making progress in addressing those concerns. That's good, because Jack is really good. He had a 66 yard TD run and a huge sack that were instrumental in winning the game, along with lots of other contributions. I think he is the best athlete in the state of Washington and he is at the top of my wish list for closing out the 2013 recruiting class. If the Husky defense is going to get to the next level, Sark needs to land guys like this...and Jack is in his backyard. Oh, and 2014 PSA Budda Baker looks pretty good too.

College Football on TV: Week 1 Thursday/Friday Games of Note

We have to wait until Saturday night for Husky football to start, but we are closer to getting our fix of college football. Much closer. Games start Thursday at 4:00 PM PDT. I am nearly beside...

Rumor Bama CB (fomerly of Eastern Arizona JC) Travell Dixon will transfer to UW

"As I Tweeted earlier, there's a rumor out there that Travell Dixon, a JC cornerback from Eastern Arizona who signed with Alabama but left there a few weeks ago, will transfer to UW. I have no official confirmation, though, so we'll see. Dixon was considered the nation's top JC cornerback before signing with Alabama. As far as I can tell, he would have to sit out this year and then have two to play two if he came to UW. Here's a story on his departure from Alabama." --Bob Condotta

Pre-Snap Read #8 Texas Preview

Paul Myerberg does a great job with these previews. I'd say he gets the Texas one more right than any other national preview I have read.

Shaq Thompson: Wildcard

UW freshman safety Shaq Thompson is a the true wildcard of the Husky defense.

Youth and expectations

As I have traveled the UW message boards, there seems to be a vocal contingent of people who are frustrated that the Huskies aren't prohibitive favorites to win the Pac-12, or at least compete...
