Make Sanchez Throw to the Right
According to this rather fascinating article on Gang Green Nation, Mark Sanchez has some lingering knee issues which make him throw like crap to the right. Maybe someone should tell Coyer so we can force his throw that way!
What's Wrong with the Colts - ESPN TMQ
Gregg Easterbrook writes a good column this week detailing from an outsider's perspective what's wrong with the Colts. He hits on every major theme that all the writers and commentors here have stated: bad O-line, no Dallas, no Brackett, Polian being a douche-bag from time to time, scapegoating Lilja, etc.
Colts #1
The Colts may have lost the big one a few months ago, but ESPN has Indy #1 in the Pre-Season Power Rankings. I don't know about you, but I find this infinitely more satisfying (to be read with dripping sarcasm).
Near the end of the afternoon, I was talking to Polian, someone whom I was hoping would be an a-hole (since he runs my least favorite football team and all) but couldn't have been a nicer and smarter guy. He's one of those people you spend 20 minutes with and end up saying afterward, "It totally makes sense to me why that guy was and is so successful." And again, I wanted to hate him. So we were saying our goodbyes and I asked why he was skipping the last group of panels. He answered that he was doing some scouting with his friend Brian Burke, the GM of the Maple Leafs. Burke had a player he liked. Polian was tagging along.
I was confused. We were less than 36 hours into the NFL's craziest free-agent signing period ever. We were just six weeks away from the NFL draft. Why would Polian want to spend a Saturday night at a high school hockey tournament in Massachusetts?
"Because I respect Brian and the way he thinks," he said. "I might learn something."
Here's Bill Polian, one of the best football executives of all time, someone hitting the tail end of his career with nothing left to prove … and he still felt as though he had something to learn. That's also why he came to Dorkapalooza, and that's why Dorkapalooza is here to stay. You can never run out of things to learn.
More Celebrity Superbowl Picks
Another listing of "celebrity" Superbowl picks - but this list has more athletes and people who have accomplished more than Valerie Bertinelli. More picks for the Colts this time. Unfortunately, Rod Blagojevich is still rooting for the Colts. Pat Robertson's picking us, too, which means if we lose Pat will say it's because Indy is a den of sin.
Celebrity Superbowl Picks
Among the "celebrities" picking Indy - Reggie Miller (yay!) and Rod Blagojevich(boo!)
The Jets beat Cincinnati and San Diego in the postseason by sticking to the run, and gradually wearing down opposing defenses. Indianapolis did not wear down. The Colts held the Jets to 86 yards rushing. Indianapolis' shutdown of the No. 1 NFL rushing attack was led by undrafted linebacker Gary Brackett, who threw his body around against the rush, but did not come off the field on passing downs. That's the kind of performance one might expect from a finalist for the TMQ Non-Quarterback Non-Running Back NFL MVP. Supposedly the Colts' front seven is undersized; they played big against the Jets' power backs and three Pro Bowl offensive linemen.
Great Article on Jim Irsay
Once you get past the poor cover of this week's Sports Illustrated (Dirty Sanchez), there's a great article inside about Jim Irsay, and everything he's been through and done for Indiana since taking over the Colts after his father's passing. He seems like a really complex person who was able to surpass his father in all aspects of life and make the Colts the success that they are today.
Am I wrong . . . .
for hoping we lose the next 5 games?
Let me start by saying I'm long time reader-first time poster. But since we just clinched our playoff spot by winning the division, I'm afraid we go ahead and win 3 more and clinch home-field. Then we rest our starters, get the bye, come into the first playoff game rusty with no momentum, and Phillip Rivers and the rest of the San Diego Smurfs come in and we're 1 and done again. I'd rather we go into it hungry like we did in 2007 (post 2006 season). Obviously losing all 5 games would not be cool, but I think losing a couple to keep home-field in question would be healthy for us from a Superbowl winning perspective.
PFT Greg Rosenthal - gives Colts credit over Pats
Another story on the Belichick call, but this one actually gives the Colts some love.
