Nicknaming the Redskins
Most players in the NFL need a good nickname. Sure, some names are cool, but for every Ickey, Atari, Frostee, Jammer, Champ, Boss, Dick Butkus, and Sabby Piscitelli, there are literally billions of boring, stupid, and impossible-to-pronounce player names. This is mostly due to the fact that parents are too emotionally drained or unstable following childbirth. However, we, as completely level-headed observers, can correct these naming mistakes by assigning new monikers to many of our beloved Redskins team.
Actually, I'm hoping that this exercise can be counted toward some of the community service hours I've been instructed to perform as a result of my bogus conviction for stalking Veronica Mars. Seriously, it's not stalking when you just happen to be so perfectly matched with someone that you happen to frequent the same parks, restaurants, sporting events, and movie shoots.
But I digest... Here are the nicknames I have so far (DISCLAIMER: I did not come up with a lot of these):

Last Minute Mock - 1 Round
In case you haven't already read enough of them, here's another mock. I made it last night. I promise I wasn't drunk, but I was pretty tired. It's pretty half-assed, but I still spent a good hour or two on it, so hopefully it possesses a few redeeming qualities.
If you wonder why I keep referring to winning free money in the mock, it's because I only made it to enter DraftDebacled.com's free mock contest, which is awarding cash prizes to the top 3 entries. Don't enter it though, because it hurts my chances. Man, I hope I win, because I love money.
Speculation: should Washington trade for a tackle? Jared Gaither?
JLC speculated a few days ago on a trade scenario between the Skins and Ravens involving OT Jared Gaither for our 2nd and maybe 5th or 6th round picks.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d81721d01&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true (about halfway down the page).
He says that the Ravens are not going to give Gaither an extension this season (he's an RFA with a 1st round tender), and that the Ravens may be looking to deal him for a first or early 2nd round pick. I didn't know a whole lot about the guy before I read the article, but he played LT last season as a rookie and most of what I read says that he played very well. JLC describes Gaither's weaknesses as not always being ultra-competitive and having some injury issues. He also says that Gaither is capable of playing both LT and RT.
The article indicates that other teams (Dallas and Detroit are mentioned) may also be interested in dealing for Gaither.
Not having watched Gaither play makes it hard for me to decide whether I like this idea or not. If he really is the quality OT people say he is, and if he can stay healthy, I kinda like this possibility. If we could get Okung and then deal our 2nd rounder for Gaither, we'd potentially have two solid OTs next year and might improve a bit quicker than originally thought. Or, if we wanted to take somebody other than an OT in the 1st round (please, not Clausen), we would still be able to get a good starting tackle.
What do you guys think? Anybody have a better idea of Gaither's ability? Is this a scenario that you'd like to see played out?

What does the Grossman signing mean?
Redskins sign QB Rex Grossman: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AhEg3XTIVVjTNP0y92cm32c5nYcB?slug=ap-redskins-grossman
To me, this can only lead to one of two outcomes:
1) The Skins are not drafting Jimmy Clausen. He'd get starter money, JC is at least lower-tier starting quality, and they didn't bring in Grossman to be a #3 QB. Grossman was Shanahan's #2 in Houston, and he's not gonna sign on now to be his #3. There isn't room on the roster for all three. I like this scenario.
2) The Skins are going to deal Campbell and draft Clausen. If we're gonna draft Clausen, we're gonna ditch JC. Not sure if someone thinks he's worth a first round tender, or if we'd have to sign and deal him for a #2. And if we ditch JC, I don't see our staff going into the season with Grossman starting and a low rounder or low level FA as the backup. I don't really like this scenario because I think Clausen will suck. But if he turns out good and we get extra picks, it's a great decision.
There's always the possibility of something else happening, but I feel, with pretty good certainty, that Grossman's signing means that we're going to follow one of these two scenarios.
What do you guys think?
