What can Tim Howard save?

+

According to Twitter user @madebytim, the dude who created the Jameis Winston crab legs meme, he could save the Jaguars (he's a fan, and was at the USMNT match in Jacksonville) from drafting Blaine Gabbert.

Bortles' hometown reacts to his pick

This is from the official UCF watch party for the 2014 NFL Draft last night in Oviedo, Florida, which is Blake Bortles' hometown, and just up the road from UCF.

Michael has left the Cottage

It would appear the rumors about the permanence of Mohammed al-Fayed's Michael Jackson statue as a condition of the sale to Shad Khan were greatly exaggerated. ESPN FC has reported that Shad has ordered the statue removed and returned to al-Fayed. He says he did so after consulting supporters of the club, saying it was "the right thing to do for Fulham".

Cottagers Confidential wrote a new fan guide

Maybe we should write something similar for Fulham fans who might be interested in our team?

WTF is going on with BECB?

I'm sorry, but the question has to be asked. What is going on with Big East Coast Bias? My understanding is that the person who was the original prime blogger here was a Louisville fan. And he...

US women's soccer crushes Scotland at the Bank

+

In the debut of new manager Tom Sermanni, the U.S. women's national soccer team crushed Scotland last night at EverBank Field, 4-1. The same score that the men's team beat them by last year. The star of the match was rookie Christen Press. In her first cap, she got two goals and an assist.

Orlando's Mike Bianchi is at it again with his Tebow fan-wank

2

"New GM of #Jaguars, but same old franchise. Once again, they turn their back on @TimTebow" Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel and 740 the Game is convinced that the very existence of the Jaguars rides on Tim Tebow. Personally (as both a Jags fan AND a life-long Orlando resident), I'm considering starting a petition to get him fired from both his jobs.

Why did they add Tulane?! They suck! It's obvious all they want is the Superdome for the Big East Championship. RayJay isn't good enough for them.

UCF wins C-USA women's soccer title

+

I don't know how many of you care about sports outside football and basketball (and maybe baseball), but UCF will take the Conference USA women's soccer title to the Big East. And their star goalkeeper, Lianne Maldonado (6 regular-season shutouts, three straight in the conference tournament), is a junior. So we'll have her in the net for our first season in the Big East. UCF has been in the NCAA tournament quite a bit recently, and met North Carolina in the very first NCAA women's soccer national championship in 1982. The team is #20 in the nation right now with a 17-4-1 overall record. (Now relinked to the UCF athletics website.)

Storm Johnson on a 3-yard TD run. #UCF 35, Akron 0 at halftime. Urban Meyer developing chronic case of NoTebow-itis!

Twitter feed of Orlando Sentinel resident fairweather blowhard and USF conspiracy theorist Mike Bianchi. UCF up 35-0 on Akron at the half. He thinks UCF has a chance against Ohio State. I'll believe it when I see it. This IS Akron, after all. UCF hasn't opened against an FBS team (though again, it's Akron) since 2007, when they shocked NC State, 25-23.

QB Jeff Godfrey seeks return to UCF

+

There's a chance Jeff Godfrey might play in the Big East in 2013 after all. The sophomore QB, who originally quit UCF and sought a transfer after a bad 2011 campaign, has returned to campus and met with George O'Leary, seeking reinstatement to the team. Guess he couldn't find a place that would take him. But a return does not mean he will start for sure. He has competition for the 2012 starter job, including Missouri transfer Tyler Gabbert, younger broither of the Jaguars' Blaine Gabbert. Senior former starter Rob Calabrese also wants the job back. He lost the job to Godfrey for good after blowing out his knee in a wildcat TD against Marshall in 2010

UCF 2012 football schedule

4

UCF plans to warm up for its entry to the Big East. 2012 has no FCS teams on it (unless you count Akron), and some biggies in the non-conference schedule. Roughly copied from the article linked. All times are TBD, and C-USA game dates (*) may change due to TV contract requirements. Aug. 30 - at Akron Sept. 8 - at Ohio State Sept. 15 - FIU (Family Weekend/College Open House) Sept. 29 - Missouri Oct. 6 - East Carolina* Oct. 13 - Southern Miss* Oct. 20 - at Memphis* Oct. 27 - at Marshall* Nov. 3 - SMU* Nov. 10 - at UTEP* Nov. 17 - at Tulsa* Nov. 24 - UAB* The Missouri home game is the result of Kansas State renegging on a home game after we played there in 2010.

Waiting in the Wings: UCF loses cool at Tulsa, Tulane runs past SMU
