Arrowhead Pride Todd Haley, longterm head coach?

Positives:

  • Straight up DOUBLED our win record over last year.
  • Got our team in shape and playing hard in the fourth quarter.
  • Supposedly had the biggest part in choosing our new coordinators.

Negatives:

  • Only won four games last year.
  • Our offense had way to many 3 and outs.
  • Our team set the all time record for drops, and he is a WR specialist.
  • Switched our defense to a 3-4, pretty much deeming the next 2 years, or more, (which includes this upcoming one) rebuilding years.

Expectations:

  • 6 wins at the very least should be expected. We improved our team way more than just one win this offseason, and don't have the patience for even more failed seasons.
  • A better passing attack. We payed Cassel a lot of money, and hopefully him and Weiss can figure something out to do better than last year. A good running attack will help things like the play action.
  • A better defense. Hell, if it gets worse than last season, then there is no hope.

Things he could do to get fired:

  • Break an assistant coaches jaw, and have reports coming out about him abusing women in past relationships.
  • Win only 5 games or less.
  • Blame all of our current problems on the past administration.
  • Have a few more below average seasons, and never break 8-8.

Arrowhead Pride How good would our offense be if we still had Tony Gonzalez?

Last year, our receivers set an NFL record in dropped passes. Our passing game didn't start to do anything, until towards the end of the season. Matt Cassel needed help out there. Our TE position was almost nonexistent. But, we also had a bad offensive line, had to suffer with LJ getting most of the carries throughout half of the season, and we didn't have a coordinator who wasn't also our head coach.

So my question is now, if we still had Tony Gonzalez, this upcoming season, how good would our offense be? First, let's look at our projected depth chart and plug Gonzo in there.

QB: Matt Cassel, Brodie Croyle, Matt Gutierrez
HB: Jamaal Charles, Thomas Jones, Kolby Smith
FB: Mike Cox
WR: Dwayne Bowe, Jerheme Urban, Lance Long
WR: Chris Chambers, Terrence Copper, Quinten Lawerence
TE: Tony Gonzalez, Leonard Pope, Sean Ryan

LT: Branden Albert
LG: Brian Waters
C: Casey Weigmann
RG: Ryan Lilja
RT: Ryan O'Callaghan

That is a pretty nasty offense. Cassel has many weapons, like Jamaal Charles, Thomas Jones, Dwayne Bowe, Chris Chambers, and even Tony Gonzalez. I think that offense, easily has playoff potential.

So what can this show us? This shows us how another solid receiving threat completes this offense. It could be a TE like Gresham, or a slot WR like Golden Tate. Maybe we trade for a TE like the bears Greg Olsen? One thing is certain though, Tony Gonzalez is not coming back, and we need another guy to make up for his loss. Hopefully, using one of our first 3 draft picks to do so.

Arrowhead Pride Breakdown of our potential first round selections.

Ok, so this is going to be a list of each player that may be available at #5 overall, and an overview of how they would help us. But first, let me start with some of the higher rated prospects, that I think are out of the question to be drafted by us.

List of players we won't draft.

Sam Bradford. (QB)
Matt Cassel's contract, and other needs are the reasons we will not draft Sam Bradford. Cassel had to adjust to a new offense right before the regular season, and was stuck behind a bad offensive line, with our receivers not performing the best they could of. Just imagine that Sam Bradford was somehow available, so we draft and sign him. Look at how much money both QB's are making. Yeah, bad idea.

Jimmy Clausen. (QB)
See above. Charlie Weiss is not a valid reason as to why we would ignore other needs and draft Clausen.

Gerald McCoy. (DT)
He could play in a 3-4, at end. We don't need a defensive end, with Dorsey and Jackson. Too small to be a nose tackle.

Ndamukong Suh. (DT)
See above. Some people have actually tried to convince me that Suh would be a good pick at 5, if put at nose tackle. His value drops significantly, when you factor him in at nose tackle in a 3-4. I'm not saying he can't do it, I'm just saying that there are better options for our 5th pick, than to go that route.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now for the list of the players I think will produce one of our future chiefs. (I think each one of these players has a chance to get drafted by us.)

List of potential first round selections.

Russell Okung. (OT)
The best offensive linemen in the draft. He completes our line and in my mind makes it one of the better offensive lines in the league. Just imagine this lineup:

LT: Russel Okung
LG: Brian Waters
C: Casey Weigmann
RG: Ryan Lilja
RT:  Branden Albert

However, we may be fine with Albert at left tackle, and Ryan O' Callaghan on the right side, and going after a defensive leader may be a better option, and Okung more than likley won't be here. But if he is, he solidifies our line for sure.

Eric Berry. (FS)
This guy is probably the most talked about guy in KC that is talked least about in our front office. Everybody likes to imagine Berry wearing red and gold, making flashy plays, hard hitting, and commanding our defense. But is he the right pick for our team? Safety is a position of low value. Do we need a safety? Yes. Do we have other needs? Yes. Safety isn't the kind of pick that is going to turn this team around. When you draft a safety in round 1, you do it for reasons the patriots did in 2007 when they took Meriweather. You do it because you have less important needs to fill. This team needs a true leader at the linebacker spot, a solid nose tackle, and I think an improved CB to pair alongside Brandon Flowers. (Along with a safety, which carries less positional value than those mentioned.)

Eric Berry has all the talent, he is a great player, but enters the draft at the wrong time for us. I don't think he will get drafted by us, but it's not out of the question. (Keep an eye out on Myron Rolle in the later rounds.)

Rolondo McClain. (ILB)
This guy is a perfect prototypical linebacker in the 3-4. He is 6-4, 256, and ran a 4.69 40. A lot better than Mr. Spikes' 5.08. Rolondo is a leader, good in coverage, smart, instinctive, and a versatile linebacker. He will make our defense leaps better by being added to the team. He should be ready to start from day 1, and compliments DJ well.

But, is LB a big enough need right now? Are Demmorio Williams and Derrick Johnson fine? Well, they may be a little shy of average, and I think we could definitely upgrade one of our inside linebackers to help improve this team. (I think DJ would hold out the starter spot with Rolondo.) And also, you have to include Rolondo's vocal leadership (something we need desperately) when comparing him alongside other prospects. I'm not going to touch on the Crohn's disease, because it's really not a big issue.

Bryan Bulaga. (OT)
At 6-6 and 312, Bulaga makes for a great LT. He would probably be the 2nd offensive tackle on our big board, after Okung, and has the same effect on our line as Okung. He was coached by Kirk Ferentz, who was one of our coaching candidates before we signed Todd Haley. One thing that may be a red flag is his arm length. Nobody want's to draft the next Robert Gallery. However, scouts seem to think he will be fine, and a good LT. He has a good all around game, and is a hard worker.

But yet again, is the singing of all these offensive linemen saying something? Is Pioli fine with the line we have now? Is getting a great defender more important? All of these will be questions brought up on draft day in the war room.

Dan Williams. (DT)
Well, nose tackle is considered by many, me included, to be the foundation of a 3-4 defense. Maybe that's why we struggled on the defensive side of the ball last year. Ron Edwards didn't look so good. Dan Williams is the best 3-4 nose tackle in this years draft, and would help out Dorsey and Jackson to have a bigger impact, which ultimately helps improve our pass rush. And that improves our secondary. In other words, a good nose tackle helps out everyone. Dan Williams still has room to grow, but is also an established player.

But is he too much of a reach? I don't think so. When you look at his potential, and positional value, you have to be happy with this selection. Williams would start on day 1, probably rotating out every now and then to take a breather, but his stamina is good, and he is a 3 down player in my opinion.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, there you have it. Will one of the above players suit up in a uniform for Kansas City next year? I think so. Which one it is, remains to be seen, and will not be known until April 22.

Arrowhead Pride Chances of us taking a Tennessee player not named Eric Berry in round 1?

Yes, you read that right. I'm talking about Jonathan Crompton, QB from Tennessee.

Haha, just kidding. In all seriousness, the man I'm  talking about is:

Dan Williams, DT from Tennessee.

BAMF

All 327 pounds of him. His projected range is about the same spot Tyson Jackson's was last year. Todd Haley does have a thing for Mike Brown, and may think that we will be fine at safety for this year. Romeo Crennel may decide after watching all of our footage, that Derrick Johnson and Demmorio Williams can get the job done. But what about Ron Edwards? His 2009 stats? Just 29 tackles. That's it. We need a guy in here who can get the job done. Shaun Smith? He is a backup, and way to injury-prone to be a starter for us.

Dan Williams has drawn interest from us, by reportedly going out to dinner with Romeo Crennel. Maybe we think he will miraculously fall to the 2nd round? Maybe we might try to trade up since we have the firepower to do it with two 2nd round picks. (Could you imagine? Eric Berry and Dan Williams!!!!) Or maybe we will reach on him. Scott isn't afraid to take some heat for overpaying a mid round player if he thinks its best for the team. Dan Williams holds as much positional value as anyone when talking about our possible first round prospects. Saftey or Nose Tackle? 3-4 Nose tackles are hard to find. They are the anchor of the defense. A solid nose tackle would bring the best out of Dorsey and Jackson. Maximizing their potential. There is a lot less good nose tackles to go around than there is safetys.

Is Dan Williams a Vince Wilfork or Casey Hampton type of player though? Does he have that potential? We will find out on draft day what Pioli thinks.

Arrowhead Pride Tim Tebow's media attention.

Is anyone else fed up with how much media attention Tim Tebow gets from ESPN, and other media sources? The guy got invited to the draft, even though he is likely a 3rd rounder at best. (Out of 18 invites, they couldn't find someone who is more deserving?) I see him as a 4th rounder. Why don't they talk about QB's that are going to be better, and drafted higher more often, like Dan LeFevour or maybe even Tony Pike? Does anybody else get it? They talk about Tebow more than Sam Bradford and Jimmy Clausen! At the NFL combine, on the day QB's did their drill, it became annoying how much attention he kept getting. Everytime before they went to a commercial, they had to show him, and they always had to spend a few minutes every time to talk about him. The guy isn't even that good and won't be a starter.

ESPN makes it even worse to by talking about it on each individual show! PTI, Sports Nation, Around the horn, Jim Rome is burning, and sports center! Just stop! Nobody is concerned about a 3rd day player at this point, and I'm sure fans want to hear more about who their team may be targeting in round 1. It's becoming as annyoing and routine as something like: Tim Tebow clipped his fingernails, how will this hurt/help his draft stock? Here is our ESPN draft insider Mel Kiper (A.K.A. Dracula) with more on the topic.  So please, stop the annoyance, and quit talking about Tebow! I'm talking to you ESPN!
