I have been an Alabama fan all my life, even though I was raised in Tennessee. I joined RBR as SugarBowl93 in late 2006, but changed my screen name after the National Championship victory.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers sign paralyzed Rutgers DT LeGrand
Paralyzed defensive tackle Eric LeGrand has been signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
LeGrand broke two vertebrae and suffered a serious spinal cord injury on Oct. 16, 2010 during a kickoff return against Army. His coach at Rutgers then, Greg Schiano, now is coach of the Bucs.
"It's something I always dreamed about, go to the NFL and retire and become a sportscaster," LeGrand added. "Dreams do come true if you really believe. You do the right things in life, good things happen to you.
BCSCG Video?
Anyone know where I can purchase the NC game online? iTunes doesn't seem to have it yet.
"I personally always viewed the undefeated season as, really, just gravy," McCarthy said. "The goal was to get home-field advantage and win the Super Bowl. That's what we discussed.
Mike McCarthy after Green Bay's loss to KC.
Well, we can add this to the "not every game counts when there's a playoff" file of quotes.
On The Fake Field Goal
Williams said the Tide had been practicing the play for about two years.
"We've been practicing it for a long time but I just finally said today the first time we got in field goal range, whether we were ahead 21 or behind 21, we were going to run it," Saban said.
Saban's prowess obviously runs deep. It was a brilliant play, and he sat on it for two years before bringing it out. I like two things about this: First, the fact that we simply do not ever know the full extent of the play options the coaching staff has available on any given down (unlike Darby up the middle), and Second, that the coach many are inclined to think is fairly conservative on offense decides to run a trick play the first time they're in field goal range, regardless of the circumstances. I love our team!
Article Defending National Championships?
Could one of our fine authors or mods please post a link to Pete's article in Yea Alabama in defense of all of Alabama's national championships? I can't seem to find it by searching the site, and figure it must only be in the mag. Hopefully it's not the sole property of Maple Street Press...
What the Royal Wedding would have looked like if Pat Dye had had his way.
Alabama coach Nick Saban said that Tinker was injured in the massive storms but is expected to be OK after being thrown 50 yards out of his house. Crimson Tide spokesman Jeff Purinton said that Tinker was in stable condition at DCH Regional Medical Center.
It was the only injury reported as of Thursday afternoon involving a University of Alabama athlete.
This is a quote of a friend of mine that somebody made into a bumper sticker.
The best hate mail in America comes from BYU fans. Even when they're spitting 20-penny nails, they're still incurably nice. Alabama fans will write hoping you die a slow, painful death, staked to an anthill while your mom watches, but the worst a BYU fan will say to you is that you're not going to heaven.
Selling Championship Rings
With the reports of the OSU suspensions coming out this week, several of us fans have expressed outrage that these players would part with their hard-earned rings for a few bucks. The pride they have in their school has been questioned by some, and some have labeled them greedy and selfish athletes who are only using OSU to get themselves to the pros.
On the other side of the issue, however, are those who feel that these are students who are likely to come from poorer backgrounds and could have used the money. Folks in this camp feel that the students do not get a fair shake not being able to work most jobs and earn an income to pay rent, etc. While not everyone in this camp feels that the rings should have been sold, they do understand the students' decision to sell them, and are reluctant to question their school pride or character. Instead, many place the blame on the NCAA's greed in wanting to control all merchandising by penalizing students who sell their personal belongings, while allowing students in other, more academic, programs to profit at times off of their abilities.
There may be other sides to this issue that I've missed, but all of this raises the question in my mind, how do we as fans feel about purchasing these items when they go on sale. I have no way to know the legitimacy of this item, but even Alabama players seem to be wiling to part with their championship paraphernalia a bit too easily for some of our tastes, as per this item on ebay last October. Obviously those fans who purchase these items are participants in this phenomenon, and while they may be buying these items out of team spirit, they are creating a market for players who some would say have none.
So, how does everyone feel about this? Is buying this stuff just as wrong as selling it? Are there circumstances under which it is okay to sell or buy these items? Is any of it wrong at all, and is the NCAA just being totally unfair?
Just for full disclosure, I think once something becomes someone's property, they should be able to do what they want with it. However, I think it is also quite classless to sell stuff like championship rings while you are a student at the school (even if it was legal), unless there is some extreme reason to do so (i.e. paying off medical bills for a family member, etc.). Jerseys are a totally different matter, and I feel like they should be able to sell the ones they're given, if they want to, after they no longer need them, even while they are a student.
For all of the grammar police and english teacher wannabes on this blog. I think this about sums it up!
Saw this on ESPN today.
It's one of the better songs about football I've heard, even though I don't really do country music. Saban is at 2:45. Namath with the Jets at 5:00. And you'll LOVE the ending.
Saban Is Not Infallible
It's a Hulu video, so you'll have to sift through commercials, but a funny little snippet of Saban on the sidelines while he was at Miami is at the 9:25 mark.
Pete Carroll to Seattle Seahawks
Relevant quotes:
Carroll was fully expected to be introduced by the Seahawks as early as Monday, assuming they comply with the Rooney Rule this weekend.
and...
But the bottom line is, Carroll's agreement with Seattle is "100 percent done," one NFL source close to the situation said.
and...
But a league source told Mortensen that Carroll was trying to persuade USC offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates to join him in Seattle -- as opposed to Bates pursuing the same position with the Chicago Bears.
Sounds fishy, huh? Might the case against Bush be moving to a point where he wants to get out of Dodge before sanctions hit? Maybe I'm dreaming, but it would be nice to see USC get what should have been coming to them.
This will certainly change PAC-10 ball, though. I doubt they nail a new hire with sanctions threatening in the future, which means Oregon basically stands alone in the PAC-10 as a power. With the way Bama is going, we may see a few Oregon teams in our future down the line.
The Artist Formerly Known As SugarBowl93
WHEREAS I had been asked if I would change my screen name if we won the national championship, and I replied that I would, and WHEREAS the Crimson Tide put a whoopin' on the Texas Longhorns, and WHEREAS this is the first team to bring us a Heisman, and the second to bring us the Butkus, and the 13th to bring us a national title (arguably there may have been more), and WHEREAS the Rose Bowl is always to be remembered because our fight song says so (how could we forget it anyway?), and WHEREAS...well you get the idea...I could go on, I have officially changed my screen name to RememberTheRoseBowl. Not that anyone really cares much, but it's my little way of celebrating.
