Providence is having a really bad Depaul Day.

9

So Depaul picks up their first Big East win since Jan. 20, 2010 breaking a 25 game losing streak in conference. (And I thought their best chance was at home versus USF later this month.) So yeah...Depaul won at Providence, something we couldn't even do this year. Congrats Blue Demons.

Pictures of Matt Howard from last night. He caught an inadvertent elbow from Paul Carter (Illinois-Chicago) as he tried to set a back screen on the last play of the first half, and it opened up a nasty cut on Howard's head. I know I've been saying that Butler has been beaten bloody since we spanked them in the opener, but this is ridiculous. Makes Tyler Hansbrough's nose from a few years ago look like a papercut.

Injury Update | C. L. Brown - U of L Beat

8

According to C.L. Brown, TJ is fine after what appeared to be a knee sprain and Gorgui Dieng will likely be out with a concussion. Here is what Coach Pitino had to say: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- "We’ve probably got another concussion on our hands with Gorgui," said U of L coach Rick Pitino, who then joked, "Normal concussions are about a week – he’ll be out a month and a half." Terrence Jennings had a sprained right knee when a West Virginia player fell on him during a scramble for the ball, but after the game he said he was fine.

My Rivalry Story -- More than a Basketball Game

Reading all these rivalry posts, I decided to formally share my POV on the rivalry game and what it means to me.  It’s a really long story, so read on if you dare. I grew up in a UK home...as a UK...

Powell #3 Rusher in the Country

8

Bilal Powell is the #3 rusher in the Country behind Denard Robinson of Michigan and Vai Taua of Nevada. Powell has 898 yards on the season. Remember that Powell only had 92 yards against Eastern Kentucky, well below his average for the season. You put his average in for that game and he's in the #2 spot. Amazing

Chinese National Basketball Team Riots vs. Brazil Crazy fight between China and Brazil in a "friendly" game in China. Coach goes nuts (twice), China player commits a hip check foul and then the benches clear. Note the karate kick issues by some really tall Chinese man in a warmup jacket. Apparently one of Brazil's players is in a neck brace after all this. By the way...all this happened in the first 1:06 of the game.

Video: Louisville QB Adam Froman - Big East Blog - ESPN

ESPN interviews Adam Froman about Louisville's success this season on offense and our upcoming match with Cincy. (Sorry, I'd embed the video, but I don't see the code to do that on BB's blog.)

CUTOTD: Miller and Bello's reaction to Chane's Commitment

Ok, so two tweets; but they are equally awesome.  Chane Behanan committed to the Cardinals this morning and as other's have posted; he's excited about it (and so are we).  However, some other guys...

UK Football Helmet History

1

Someone showed me this link since it's rumored that UofL would be getting a new helmet design this year. I thought you guys might enjoy the site too. The link is direct to the SEC helmets. A link where you can find all the schools is here. Of UK's helmet, I think I like the 1997-2002 the best. To "modernize" it, they could inverse the white and blue (but leave the facemask white). I think it'd look pretty sharp. What do you guys think?

A pictorial view of all the MLB ballparks and how they vary in the outfields. Pretty interesting to see the shapes and a plot of all the outfields lined up on one picture.

A recap of the World Cup draw between England and the USA in Lego. Green will never live down the gaff he made here. As my British friend said, "That was a right cock up there. What a prat!"

Ever Wondered What Managers Are Saying When They Go Apeshit On The Ump? Deadspin found this old video that brings some insight to what the managers are saying and I find it hilarious. I don't know what McDonnell said to those umps earlier this season, but it can't top what good ole Wally Backman says and does in this video.

NCAA to Take on One-and-Done Rule

4

Newly appointed NCAA president Mark Emmert has said he will take on the one-and-done rule working with David Stern of the NBA and Arne Duncan, the Secretary of Education. It's not like Myles Brand didn't try the same thing, but I hope Mark Emmert will have more success at ending this rule that doesn't fit with the NCAA's focus on student-athletes.

An off-topic, but Interesting article on how Myron Rolle's "intelligence" cost him in the draft.

Justin Coleman Eligibility Status

18

Demling comments on Coleman's status. He needs 3 credits this summer to be eligible. Credits in reference to a HS prospect is classes. So Coleman likely needs passing grades in three courses and an overall 2.5 GPA to make it. Not knowing his current GPA, this is great news in my book. Rarely does a recruit (who is already attending a basketball prep school) not make the grades over summer courses. Talk about your highs and lows in one week of Louisville Basketball recruiting...things are definitely looking up now.

Oh, Keno. You can never leave a place like Drake without regrets. This is just ridiculous. Beating up the first kid they see? Nice recruits there Providence.

A solid kicking game?

3

In the spirit of Art posting on Mike's FB wall, maybe we'll finally get back into a solid kicking game. I know it's only one day, but man it'd be nice to have a good kicker again. Got me hopeful anyway.

Nova's late season "off-court" issues explained?

8

Holy hell! News on Nova's campus is that Corey Fisher impregnated Scottie Reynolds's girlfriend, they brawled over it and THAT'S why Wright suspended them for the Robert Morris game. Talk about drama. Kinda puts the whole DC thing into perspective, no?

Layup drills anyone? Xavier misses two wide-open layups then let's Stanford go coast-to-coast to advance to the Women's Final 4. I can't imagine how bad Dee Dee Jernigan must have felt after that game.

Taylor King of Villanova Wildcats could miss Big East tournament with personal issue - ESPN

Not exactly huge news, but could be bad news for Nova. King has been a big role player on the Wildcats and has been known to get hot from 3 in addition to being Nova's 2nd leading rebounder.

Football Conference Comparison

6

So this UGA article is all about showing how great the SEC is in football (as if we needed more evidence). But to me what it shows is just how good the Big East is by comparison. In terms of talent input with performance output, the Big East is amazing. It's not coincidence that BIg East coaches get poached for bigger programs on an annual basis.

CHJ Flipped Fortunes

College Hoops Journal talking about how Kentucky and Louisville's fortunes have manged to flip this season so far. I'm doing my best to not let all the bad press get me down, but I figured we all should read this to prepare for the media frenzy that will be Jan. 2nd. Let's hope we get it together and feed the frenzy in a good way.
