Bloody Elbow OhEmGeeWTF Vol. 1

Welcome to OhEmGeeWTF. This is the blog where I try to figure out just what in the hell certain individuals were thinking at certain times. Listed are some moments where you just thought to yourself "Oh my god, what the #$%@!??!?" Here we go.

Shogun Vs. Coleman II

Here was a very much anticipated fight for myself being a huge Chute Boxe fan and following Pride like it was a religion. But 3 minutes into the 2nd round i found myself swearing like a sailor at the screen. Why didn't you train properly Shogun!

CroCop Vs. Gonzaga

Who would have predicted CroCop would get knocked out with a high kick from Gonzaga? Not only did this suck but it made me cry inside in disbelief.

GSP Vs. BJ Penn II

Ok this was one of the worst ever. We ALL knew that if BJ did not train he would not win. He HAD to be in awsome shape, like the Sean Sherk fight, in order to win this fight. In my opinion being a little lighter then GSP would have done wonders for his stand-up and speed so i was thinking he would come in looking like he did for sherk. Boy was i wrong. I was let down worse then anything in this fight. Durring round 3 i found myself telling my brother "OMG why did he not train like he was supposed to! Like in the Sherk fight! WTF." Extremely tough and dissapointing.

Wanderlei Silva Vs. Jackson III

Wow, really? This fight was such a let down. Maybe im biased towards my favorite fighters winning but to my knowledge if you beat a guy twice convincingly why not make that a third?

Big Nog getting Nogged by Frank Mir

My least favorite fighter in the UFC today is Frank Mir. Sorry but i just do not like the mans fighting persona. He is a great guy most likely in real life but the "im better then you attitude" he displays is just annoying. To have him tool Big Nog, one of the most humble and respectable fighters in MMA's history was just horrible.

Im sure there are plenty more moments i can't think of right now but please share with me yours.

Bloody Elbow Top 5 Points "Hindering, Rending, Halting" MMA's Growth

Since the very beginning MMA has been labeled as a "Blood Sport" and given very little acceptance among non-casual viewers. Many who, if not convinced by others, simply would not ever give the sport a chance. There have been flaws in management, disrespectful athletes who used banned substances and reality show antics that have pushed more and more viewers away from mixed martial arts. Here is a list of the 5 roughest edges taking a swing at MMA's chance at the big time:

5. Steroid Use

Some view it as a great injustice to sports past, present and future while others turn the other cheek. Is it that great of an issue? Then i ask you, was it that great of an issue when A-Rod confessed to steroid use? Every time a fighter gets exposed they lose fans and those fans lose sight of MMA and MMA loses revenue and exposure. Maybe Chris Leben's exposed use sent away a fan who, in time, would have brought 100,000 new fans who eventually would have forced another 1,000,000 fans to fall in love with the sport. Who really knows.

4. Leadership

Because all good endings have a great beginning, you just have to blame some of the damage dealt to mixed martial arts growth on EliteXC. They began with a group of money hungry leaders who knew nothing but money signs and ended up leaving a group of fighters without food on there tables and a steady income for months. Even the infamously mouthed Dana White who even i respected greatly has dealt a strong blow to the future of MMA's maintream attention, saying slurs that not only where thoughtless but possible forced many viewers, hardcore fans, and other leaders around the media realm to lose respect for Dana White, the UFC and even MMA as a whole.

3. 2. and 1. The Fans

Yes, thats right. Maybe not me and you personally but the fans are the 3 top reasons destroying our beloved sport. I can not sit through any other sport like i can MMA. First watching the UFC brought new light to what i once though of when i heard the terms "sport" and "competition". Yet the most damaging asset holding back mainstream viewers is me, myself, and I. Even you. Whether its the fan that goes to the bars on the UFC fight nights and starts a fight in the parking lot or even a fan that starts a fight at a local MMA event you are doing damage to the sport as a whole. The online comunity is guilty of damaging the sport also. Online streaming of events that normally cost $30-$60 steals revenue from the sport. All the blasphemic injustices mixed martial arts is accused of are not just stereotypes, they are facts only because we as fans do not do ANYTHING to sway them the other way. This includes NOT getting into fights at a mixed martial arts event, NOT stealing online steams of events that are supposed to be purchased, NOT speaking hideously about women on a mixed martial arts forum. Don't get me wrong, to admire a woman is one thing but to slander her image with your tongue is another. It sends the wrong image about the average martial arts fan.

Solutions

Our leaders in the sport, whether is be the fighters or the promoters, even the presidents, have to learn some humility. I have never seen the CEO of Coke on YouTube swearing his lungs out at someone let alone any other CEO/President of any major mainstream organization.

We, as fans, have to have respect for our sport. We can't roam around like we are the baddest person in the room at any given time. We have to stop stealing from our sport. We have to dress the part. Wearing your favorite fighters shirt is one thing but dressing up like you just got off of your construction job to go to an event is another. Unless we want MMA to go into the direction Boxing and the music industry is going we cannot continue to disrespect our newer fans and we cannot steal the show online.

Whether this gets through to 1 person or none I can now wash my hands of the situation at hand. MMA is going no where fast and its our own faults.
