Liars who coach

Seems to me there is a credibility problem among head football coaches in the SEC west.

Nick Saban says "I'm not gonna be Alabama's coach." A month later, he's hired at Bama.

Houston Nutt denies a relationship with a woman (not his wife) with whom he had over 1,000 phone conversations.

Bobby Petrino assures his boss on Monday that he is Falcon's coach forever. On Tuesday, he is hired at Arkansas.

Am I the only one bothered that liars can make millions? Integrity used to count for something; Now, it is secondary to winning football games. My sincere wish is for Nutt, Saban, and Petrino to fall flat on their lying butts.

Croom, Tuberville, and Miles (so far) are coaches with integrity that are good role models. My sympathies are with the student ahtletes that have Saban, Nutt, and Petrino as role models. What great examples of ethical behavior these "gentlemen" are.

The KY game was so emotionally exhausting it felt like a hangover all day Sunday.

It seemed like the longest game in history, and that was before the overtimes.
The clock operator at Commonwealth gets an assist for the Wildcats. No way in hell the play at the end of regulation didn't exhaust the 8 seconds. But there was 1 second left, enough for a KY field goal.
When TN failed to score in one of the overtimes, why didn't KY just immediately attempt a 42 yard field goal and win the game "RIGHT NOW" instead of running some plays (which they did) and then kick? Barring an incompetant kicker, this would seem to be a major coaching blunder. Did I miss something?
Remember: If you decapitate someone with a face mask after a change of posession in overtime, NO PENALTY!!

The Rev embraces the hate!

I was born Saturday, October 20, 1956 at 7PM. Earlier that day, Johnny Majors led the Volunteers to a 24-0 win against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

My football awareness began in the mid-60's, and so did my Big Orange heritage. Football on TV was rare and most games were radio only. Names like the Dewey "the swamp rat" Warren, Richmond Flowers, and Charlie Fulton captured my youthful imagination as the radio trumpeted their exploits. It was on the 3rd October Saturday of 1967 that the deal was sealed for me, as a 3rd-string QB named Bubba Wyche led the Vols to an unbelievable win at Tuscaloosa. I still have the Sports Illustrated with the famous cover photo and the line "Vols Dam The Tide."

Bill Battle did a fine job as Tennessee's head coach in the early to mid-70's. But he couldn't beat Alabama. And he was from Alabama. And he was gone. He is the 1st incumbent coach ever to wake up one morning to a moving van in front of his house. Getting fired from Tennessee is the best thing that ever happened to him. He's now a billionaire.

I have no sympathy for Alabama or their fans. As a TN fan, I caught so much crap for so long during the 70's and 80's that I will never have any sympathy. On any given fall Saturday I am cheering for the Vols and whoever's playing Alabama. At least we have Tide stalwarts like Mike Price, Albert Means to hold over their heads, not to mention the fact that Fulmer owns 'em.

For this fan, there is no more hated rival.
