Love baseball, the Rockies, and Troy Tulowitzki....

"It is played everywhere: in parks and playgrounds, prison yards, in back alleys and farmers’ fields; by small boys and old men, raw amateurs and millionaire professionals. It is a leisurely game that demands blinding speed; the only game in which the defense has the ball. It follows the seasons, beginning each year with the fond expectancy of springtime and ending with the hard facts of autumn.

Americans have played baseball for nearly 200 years; while they conquered a continent, warred with each other and with enemies abroad, struggled over labor and civil rights, and with the meaning of freedom.

At its heart lie mythic contradictions: a pastoral game born in crowded cities, an exhilarating democratic sport that tolerates cheating, and has excluded as many as it has included. A profoundly conservative game that often manages to be years ahead of its time. It is an American Odyssey that links sons and daughters to fathers and grandfathers, and it reflects a host of age-old American tensions; between workers and owners, scandal and reform, the individual and the collective.

It is a haunted game in which every player is measured with the ghosts of those who have gone before. Most of all though, it is about time and timelessness, speed and grace, failure and loss, imperishable hope, and coming home."

Hope is on the horizon

Jon Gray and Eddie Butler give the Rockies good reason to be excited, in fact, even more so than you might first think.

Monday Rockpile links, 3/3: Larkin likes Tulo

Troy Tulowitzki is under appreciated, Jon Gray and Eddie Butler get national attention, Nolan Arenado wants to become an all around player, and Matt Belisle is still a horse the Rox trust in their pen. All that and more in today's Rockpile links.

DJ LeMahieu or Josh Rutledge? Choose your side Colorado fans. A battle is brewing.

Monday Rockpile: And now we wait...

Jhoulys Chacin and the Colorado Rockies will spend much of Monday anxiously awaiting news on an MRI that will have an enormous impact on both of their seasons.

Beyond the 5th starter

If Jhoulys Chacin, Jorge De La Rosa, Tyler Chatwood, and Brett Anderson can stay healthy, they Rockies might actually have something in 2014.

Ubaldo goes east

The Orioles signed Ubaldo Jimenez to a four year contract last night effectively eliminating any realistic chance of him meeting the Rockies head on in the near future. To tell you the truth, I'm a little disappointed about that.

Looking at bullpen roles

Rex Brothers ended 2013 as the closer for the Colorado Rockies, but a closer look at his strengths says that LaTroy Hawkins should have that job when the 2014 campaign begins.

Monday Rockpile: Hoping for disaster

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the obvious choice in the NL West this season, but a closer look at their infield shows that they are vulnerable if things don't break they way they envision.

Monday Rockpile: Ervin Santana and the stagnant NL

The Rockies are one of several teams interested Ervin Santana's services, and if you look at the National League as a whole, that idea starts to look very tempting.

Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson will meet in the Super Bowl in two weeks, and amazingly, both were inside the Rockies organization less then three years.

Rockies avoid arbitration with Stubbs, Nicasio

The Colorado Rockies handed a pair of one year deals to Drew Stubbs and Juan Nicasio on Friday, and in doing so are guaranteed to avoid arbitration with all of their players this off season.

In this video I discuss how the amount of money Ervin Santana, Ubaldo Jimenez, Nelson Cruz, Kendrys Morales, and Stephen Drew receive later this winter could impact the Rockies in the future.

Ten players the Colorado Rockies need to avoid the DL the most in 2014. Who are they? Well, Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez are obviously two, but what about the others?

Saturday Rockpile: My stance on PED usage

Larry Walker only got 10.2% of the vote on yesterday's Hall of Fame ballot, and while he certainly isn't the biggest name on the list, he certainly should have gotten more support.

The Colorado Rockies have made several moves this off season, but their success next season still largely hinges on how much production they can get out of their returning core.
