Rhondda Nunes

May 08, 2008 Dec 26, 2011 7 2254

I'm a self-employed musician that is a two-time ASCAP+ grant winner that has an IMDB film score to my credit. I live in Stockton, California and I'm an avid Sacramento king's fan. I graduated cum laude from UCLA and I have a Master's of Music degree from the University of the Pacific. I like to follow the college games also and root for my college alma maters in both the women's and men's game. I harvest rainwater and greywater and volunteer for activities that serve the environment locally and also write on local issues. I teach music in Stockton, CA and I attract students not only from the 209 area code but also from the 707, 916 and 415 area codes because of the uniqueness of my instruction methods. Under the name of "Rhondda Nunes and the Rockin' Blues 'Xpress" I recorded "Gotta Love Your Sacramento Kings" which raised thousands for Hurricane Katrina relief for the Red Cross, and I have given away versions of the old song version(2005) to the world, because it's a good thing to pay it forward. My band has now been renamed "The Rhondda Nunes Collective" as of May, 2010. A local band I play for, RB/X, was recently voted"Best Band in The San Joaquin " for 2009 by readers of the (Stockton) Record.

Sactown Royalty Towards a new version of "Gotta Love Your Sacramento Kings!"

Many of you have written to me recently asking me:

"Rhondda...new version of your song?"

"It's now or never!"

& adfinidum. yeah. awesome.

My thinking originally was to wait until the team had a winning record. To me the thought of "Gotta love Your Sacramento Kings!" should apply only to players that are playing well enough to win consistently. The song was an award; meted out after those few wins  where I post the title in the post-game thread.....

Sactown Royalty My Summer gigs, Part two

So the debut of the new version of my song about the Sacramento Kings, Gotta Love Your Sacramento Kings! will be this Friday at Royce farms BBQ with my band, The Rhondda Nunes Collective; start time is 6:00 pm on the back lawn.I'll also be playing some of my other originals and another song about basketball called No Cows In sight!

Royce Farms BBQ is at highway 99 & 8-mile road (approximately the northen border of Stockton & the southern boundary of Lodi). All you King's fans in the 209 come out and support us, ok?& if you have a classic car, drive it on out; there will  be a classic car show on sight.

Not too late to suggest a lyric or rhyme about a King's player, if I like it I'll include it!& I just heard today that I'll be receiving a Stockton Arts Commission grant so it looks like the Rhondda Nunes Collective will be doing a lot more gigs(and renditions of my King's song)for some time to come!YAY!!!!

Sactown Royalty My Summer Gigs...volume 1

Some of you have e-mailed me at my website asking when my gigs are and if I'm going to be playing anywhere in the sactown area.Of course, you could go over to the stockton record's website:
http://www.recordnet.com
to view my gigs on the calendar there when they crop up; but that won't  tell anyone when I'm in Sac, so...I'll just post it here.

The good news is I'll be playing in TZ's hometown of Vacaville on June 30th from 12:00 to 3:00 approximately for the opening of the new Nugget Market with a Latin Band I play with called the Lopez Bros. (We have also played in Roseville and at the Sacramento Zoo for their Summer Wine Series). Now this isn't my band per se, but they're aimiable amigos and I can do the King's song if it's requested. If you want to see my group, Rhondda Nunes n' the Rockin' Blues Xpress you'll have to cross the Sac county line and head on down to Lodi where I'll be performing this friday from 6:00-9:00 pm at Royce Farms BBQ at 8-mile & highway 99.Love to see any of you at either place...

Sactown Royalty Bring Back Coachie...dammit!

I've got no real objections to any of the possible assistants proposed as a head coach for the Sacramento Kings....

I liked how Scott Brooks handled the team during the summer league & while the Muss was DOA(oopsie...I meant DUI)...I like Reggie Theus, too(but I'd rather he'd practice being an head coach somewhere else after the leap from college; it's not as if the NBA is the College game; nor is New Mexico State UCLA, but never mind....)

No objections to Bill Laimbeer either(oh wait?...no one mentioning him?Oh yeah...that's right, he "only" coaches gurls; despite his ring.Still;he needs to practice being a head coach somewhere else too...like Theus. I've got nothing against these guys; it's just that..... I want more, dammit.

Sactown Royalty What's in it for Ron Artest to ditch his anger.

We can all see the obvious things...Ron Artest needs to cut it out before he harms himself or those he's encharged to protect. But after re-reading Eric Adelson's article "Scary Good":

http://espn.go.com/magazine/vol6no02artest.html

I can see what's in it for Ron Ron. As he told a therapist;"I'm spoiled...I want things my way. Basketball has allways been something I felt I could control."

Indeed. And getting things your way all the time certainly puts one in control doesn't it?Ron Ron's anger gives him edge on the court. Makes him desirous of keeping out an opponents garbage. The more frustrated he gets, the harder he plays.Good for him.

But getting rid of the anger wouldn't just benefit  his personal life and lower his stress levels.Getting rid of the hold frustration has on him could also make him a better baller and really put his soul in control....

Sactown Royalty The Kings are breakin' my heart & holding back music.

I think I've finally reached the breaking point.really.How am I supposed to come up with a new version of a song based on a sparkling King's offense & tenacious 'd' when it doesn't exist on the court for more than two quarters in a row lately?

I thought I had it last night in the second quarter; came up with a verse on the fly only to tear it up in the 3rd quarter in disgust. To add insult to injury,a music agency south of the evil empire of Mordor has weighed in on how "unmarketable" a song about the Kings is:"The lyric...has only limited appeal...to people...who love the Kings...We'd love to hear what you could do with a lyrical sentiment that has more universal appeal".Implied I'm wasting my talent writing a song about the Kings...is that true?
