Richard Gasquet was victorious in his first match back on the ATP in New Haven, after testing positive for cocaine after pulling out of Miami.

He defeated Michael Rubin of the USA, 6-2 6-3. Gasquet played an okay match. He was still finding his rhythm for sure. Raced to a quick 4-1 lead in the first set, and finished it off strong. No real serving problems. The second set was more competitive. Gasquet's opponent was a guy who didn't make many mistakes, got good length on his shots, and was consistent. He didn't have too many weapons to hurt Gasquet, except when he came in and forced. Gasquet to pass him. Match point was a typical Gasquet backhand up the line for a clean winner, was nice to finally see him play in person. Hopefully Gasquet will qualify for the main draw, and to be honest if he doesnt he'll be depressed. A good draw in the USO should hopefully take him to the 3rd or 4rd round which would really help his ranking. Keep up the good work! Allez!!
