2010 plan
Ok, here is my plan for next year....
Going along with the rumors I would trade Harrington to Chicago in exchange for Tyrus Thomas. Knicks would need to take back Tim Thomas' contract to match money and he's already been on the Knicks 12 times. His contract is expiring, as is Tyrus' who plays D and Rebounds. You resign Tyurs next year for an affordable 6-7 million
Trade David Lee and Burger King Curry to Milwaukee for Michael Redd (salary matches up). Bucks get a nice piece who they can decide if they wanna re-sign and the Knicks would be on the books for Redd's salary for 2010 (same as Curry). It is a big gamble but Curry is giving them nothing now.
You either throw Nate in one of these deals or just don't re-sign him (or give him pennies on the dollar when no one offers him a contract).
You have around 45 million dollars left to play with, which could/should land you Bosh and Lebron (19 and 24 mill?) leaving a mill or two to fill out your roster with some league miniumums.
Your 2010 team is: C Tyrus Thomas(7) F Bosh(19) F James(24) G Redd G (18) Toney Douglas(1). Bench: Gallinari (3) Chandler (2) Hill (3) Jeffries (7-uhh) and whatever 2-3 scrubs are cheapest (2nd round pick, etc.)
Your payroll is now 84-85 mill, the same amount as this year, but with 2 superstars and the upside of Michael Redd maybe being a 3rd (he is a huge gamble, but the alternative is having Curry sit on the bench and having to deal with telling Lee you don't wanna re-sign him).
After 2010 Redd and Jeffries 25 mill come off the books and you can go get a 3rd stud.
Thoughts?
