Growing up in Oregon I am a full time Ducks fan, having lived in Idaho for 5 years now I am a part time Broncos fan, meaning anytime BSU is not playing the Ducks I cheer for them. That being said please do not take offense when I say it seems like there is a lot of talk about the Oregon Ducks on this blog, I mean it is almost like the people here cannot get enough of them. Whether it is talking about the New Coach they have or the uniform redesign. Also I noticed the O in your main picture bares an uncanny resemblance to the Oregon O it is just a different color. I my question is this. What are the general feelings towards the Oregon Ducks on this site. Personally I am a huge Ducks fan but I have a huge amount of respect for the Broncos and all that they have accomplished.

Looking forward to a great game in September, See you at Bronco Stadium and GO DUCKS!!!!!!

So my friend and I were discussing ways to show our support and solidarity as the most loyal and avid fan base in America and we came up with what we think is a pretty cool idea. For the remainder of the Playoffs change your profile status the the RISE WITH US BANNER. I think that would be a really cool way of telling the rest of the country that we are proud of our team and the work they put in to get where they are and to get to where they are going as well.

For the past few years I have been attending a private University in eastern Idaho located a few short hours from Salt Lake City. You guessed it this is Jazz country. I can’t stand the undeserved sense of accomplishment that Jazz fans have. First of all your name doesn’t match the city you live in, secondly you have probably the lousiest fan base in America (IE chanting Cancer to Derek Fisher). The reason I bring this up is that for the past few years I have had to endure constant harassment from these so called loyalists who, if I remember correctly dropped the team flat on it’s face after Stockton and Malone peaced out. Even now their support is spotty at best, I went to a game as part of a career fair about two months ago and the place was literally half empty, but since Mormons (Jazz fans) are overly optimistic people they would probably argue that it is half full. Now I know what you are thinking about the Mormon comment but I actually am a “Mormon” as well and I have to say sometimes they can be so ridiculous (like rooting for the Jazz). But I digress; the fact of the matter is; now I finally have something to say back to them.

The following is an actual argument that took place in front of a Dairy Queen approximately 3 hours ago.

(As I leave my car and head into the restaurant I ran into a friend of mine who took it upon herself to talk a little trash to me after the Utah Jazz started out the season 5-0, from there on out you had to know this would be war I would not stand idly by and have my fan hood endure such mockery)

Me: (wearing my old school Steve Smith jersey… laundry day) Hey how about those Jazz huh? Hope you guys enjoy the 8th seed and losing to the Lakers in the first round.

Jazz fan that thinks we are friends and is actually from Virginia but happens to be a Jazz fan because her boyfriend is: Well uh uh. What is that a child size small Martell Webster jersey?

Me: No actually it is my vintage Steve Smith jersey that I have had since high school.

Poser Jazz fan: Oh I was just wondering.

Me: it’s ok I would be in a bad mood too if my team couldn’t win on the road.

Jazz fan again: All I have to say is Sam Bowie, Darius Miles, and the latest Greg Oden.

Me: funny you would mention Greg Oden who actually leads the league in offensive rebounds in his rookie season, and how many rings do the Jazz have again….?

Jazz fan: (silence)

My point is that many of you probably encounter conversations like this every day, well I want to give you a chance to vent in the comments below lets share our best “Behind Enemy Lines” story. I don’t want this thread to turn into a religious debate I have already told some Mormons that they are wrong a on few things, being Jazz fans for one, I mean don’t the realize that Brigham Young was a Trail Blazer?

So after the Utah Jazz lost in 3OT to Dwayne Wade (I wont mention the Heat here because Wade has become a one man show). Portland now leads the division by a half game. How long do you think it will last? I am optimistic that Utah loses tomorrow at Orlando on a back to back and we have a very successful road trip (we are due for one) your thoughts?
Portland's History of Injury Prone Centers

Below is a direct copy of Bill Walton's NBA career from his Wikipedia page, so take from it what you will.

Walton was drafted number one overall by the Portland Trail Blazers and was hailed as the savior of the franchise.[ sound familiar?] His first two seasons were marred by injury (at different times he broke his nose, foot, wrist and leg) and the Blazers missed the playoffs both years. It was not until the 1976-77 season that he was healthy enough to play 65 games and, spurred by new head coach Jack Ramsay, the Trail Blazers became the Cinderella team of the NBA. Walton led the NBA in both rebounds per game and blocked shots per game that season and he was selected to the NBA All-Star Game but did not participate due to an injury. Walton was named to the NBA's First All-Defensive Team and the All-NBA Second Team for his regular season accomplishments. In the postseason, Walton led Portland to a sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers in the conference finals (famously outplaying Kareem Abdul-Jabbar during the series)[6] and went on to help the Trail Blazers to the NBA title over the favored Philadelphia 76ers despite losing the first two games of the series. Walton was named the Finals MVP. The following year, the Blazers won 50 of their first 60 games before Walton suffered a broken foot in what turned out to be the first in a string of foot and ankle injuries that cut short his career. He nonetheless won the league MVP that season (1978) and the Sporting News NBA MVP, as well. He played in his only All-Star Game in 1978 and was named to both the NBA's First All-Defensive Team and the All-NBA First Team. Walton returned to action for the playoffs but was reinjured in the second game of a series against the Seattle SuperSonics. Without Walton to lead them, Portland lost the series to Seattle in six games. As it turned out, Walton would never play for the Trail Blazers again. During the offseason, Walton demanded to be traded, citing unethical and incompetent treatment of his and other players' injuries by the Blazers' front office. He did not get his wish and sat out the 1978-79 season in protest, signing with the San Diego Clippers when he became a free agent in 1979.[7] Walton spent several seasons alternating between the court and the disabled list with his hometown San Diego Clippers. After the 1984-85 campaign, Walton called on two of the league's premier teams, the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. After several players on the Celtics said they liked the idea of having Walton as a teammate backing up Robert Parish and Kevin McHale, Red Auerbach made the deal happen. One anecdote that particularly illustrates Walton's decision to choose the Celtics over the Lakers is about Larry Bird, who happened to be in Auerbach's office when Walton called and said that if Walton felt healthy enough to play that it was good enough for him, as opposed to Lakers GM Jerry West, who was hedging his interest in Walton pending a doctor's report. Boston acquired Walton by sending popular forward Cedric Maxwell to the Clippers along with a first-round draft pick. Providing a reliable backup to McHale and Parish, Walton received the NBA Sixth Man Award that season en route to the NBA Championship, becoming the only player to have ever won an NBA Finals MVP, Sixth Man Award, and regular season MVP. Walton injured himself again the following season, but returned for the 1987 playoffs. He spent the 1987-88 season on the injured list. He attempted a comeback in February 1990, but injury intervened and he retired from the game. His ankle problems became so severe years later that he had both his ankles surgically fused. His saga of injury and failed rehabs was connected to the use of pain killers by the doctor who was assigned to his case.[citation needed] Walton has said repeatedly in his broadcasts that he is just as much to blame for taking the medication as the doctor was for giving it to him. Yet his experience with injuries and the circumstances surrounding them have come to serve as a warning for professional athletes who undergo major injury as well as being an interesting case study for medical ethics. His injuries, along with his 1978-1979 year-long protest, gave him an unpleasant, if not odd, record. Walton holds the record for the most games missed during an NBA playing career, when taking into account the number of years he was officially listed as a player on a team roster. He was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1993, and had his number 32 retired by the Blazers in 1989. In 1996, he was named as one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players of all time.

The thing we can take from this is, if history repeats itself, Greg Oden's reign may be short lived. However we may still get that shot at an ever illusive second banner to hang in the rafters.

So next Wednesday, 11/05/2008 The Portland Trailblazers will travel to Salt Lake City Utah to take on our division rival, and strongest competition to win our first NW division crown. I currently live just three hours from SLC while I am at college. A few friends and I have purchased tickets and are planning on making the journey.

We decided that we really want to show our support for our team so we thought we should make some clever signs and hold them up at the game. My idea for a sign is as follows

" Even Brigham Young was a Trailblazers"

I was wondering what other hilarious signs we could come up with for that game as well as the one on 12/11 that we are planning on attending as well. Please post your ideas below and if we like a few of them look for our signs, and us on TV at the two Utah road games.
