Rating the Raters: Reviewing Recruiting Services for Success and Bias
A must read for people who follow football recruiting heavily.
It is a long article which critiques the 4 major recruiting services to see how well they predict future college All Conference and All American players.
It is from MGOBlog -> one of the best and longest run college football team blogs on the next (Michigan).
Here is the opening paragraph:
With the ESPN150 hot off of the presses yesterday, all four major sites now have an updated Top 150/247/250/300 list available for the 2013 class. I wanted to dive in and look at how each service has performed over the years. Would any site stand out as doing a better job of predicting success? Do allegations of regional bias play out for any specific services?
Rutgers' HC Greg Schiano to be Tampa Bay Bucs' new HC
espn story.
Real question becomes does DL Darius Hamilton go to UF as a result?
NCAA Finds No Major Violations For Auburn
link from ESPN via AP.
first paragraph of story is as follows:
The NCAA said it found no major violations committed by Auburn regarding Cam Newton or other pay-for-play allegations and has concluded multiple investigations of the program.
Storm Johnson to transfer from Miami
The following is the final paragraph of the story:
Johnson's transfer will also severely limit the impact that Randy Shannon's final recruiting class will have at UM. Of that much maligned class, three of the highest rated players (Johnson, Williams and Kevin Nelson) have chosen to leave the program, two others were nudged out by the new staff (Davis and Andrew Tallman) and one (Jeffery Brown) was kicked off of the team after being charged with rape. IN ASANTE JABARI-CLEVELAND WE TRUST.
OU Kicker Out for season
Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops doesn't expect kickoff specialist Matt Moreland to be with the team this season due to academic issues.
Can only help us in the field position battle come Sept. 11.
Heather Dinich Chat
touched on a lot of topics throughout the ACC - was conducted yesterday (Tuesday June 8th).
Got a lot of questions in, especially true about FSU. A lot about Tahj Boyd taking over for Parker as Clemson QB and ACC perceptions were among the more popular topics in the chat.
RB Mike Bellamy to Clemson
from ThaRinger
This was not a surprise as Clemson has been his leader for a while. Clemson's got a nice class going at running back.
FSU was not recruiting Bellamy. He chose CU because their OL coach (who is awful) grew up with his mom.
Newberry waiting til Signing Day
Giorgio Newberry is a big name, on the recruiting front. All you have to do is look at his list which he named Miami, Florida State,Florida,Tennessee, and Clemson. Newberry also noted that there were more schools in contention to land his signature. Any school trying to earn his commitment will not be getting it anytime soon as Newberry told us.
ThaRinger's Spring Top 250
29 players from FL made the list.
Several FSU leans and commits made the list.
2nd straight year that a DE is #1 on the list.
ESPN Video Link To Christian Jones' Announcement to FSU
Here's what ESPN's Billy Tucker had to say about CJ:
Jimbo Fisher continues to close well down the stretch. With the Jones commitment, FSU likely will be one of the big movers of the day. In Jones, the Seminoles are getting a scheme-versatile defender. We feel he could play OLB or develop into a defensive end with added bulk and strength. He’s a tremendous athlete for his size and can be a disruptive presence on the perimeter at either position.

NCAA Investigating Tennessee's Use of Hostesses
The NCAA is probing Tennessee's football recruiting practices, according to several prep prospects, their family members and high school administrators.
Is from ESPN and includes a 3 min video clip featuring Pete Thamel who authored the NY Times piece that was linked here on TN earlier.
It is an overview story, but the only recruits mentioned by name are the Byrnes trio of Marcus Lattimore, Brandon Willis and Corey Miller.
STA/Byrnes Game
Click the link (title) to watch the game if you don't have ESPNU
Byrnes up 7-0 after the first drive of the game.
2 trick plays. 1st was a fake punt that Lattimore converted (26 yard run) and the 2nd was a modified flea flicker that they ended up with ~ 50 yards out of.
FSU/NCAA - These are the Days Of Our Lives
NCAA says Florida St.'s claims not true
In an unusual move, the NCAA issued a statement saying that Wetherell's claim of having an agreement with the NCAA on keeping student-athletes out of 30 percent of the next year's games "not true."
I feel like I'm in a combination of "The Twilight Zone" and "Groundhog Day" with this story.
Anyone know what recruits are going to be at the game?
Just curious. Hope to see a lot of kids there, but know that it will be not as easy for them because of the game being on a Monday Night. If you hear of any, regardless of official or unofficial, please add to thread. Thanks in advance. Hopefully SWFLNole and/or FSUSOM will have something on this in their next WORT, or even sooner if one isn't planned.
Luc to FSU?
thread to ThaRinger's forum. This was reported/thread started by CDrake.
If this news turns out to be true it will be awesome news, as Luc is also an EE candidate, which means we'd get him in for the Spring and it would give other schools less time to try and turn him.
Kenny Shaw Interview with ThaRinger
wants to take all 5 visits and then decide.
Says likes relationships with FSU and UF coaches.
Will attend SS.
Kendall Moore Interview
ThaRinger's interview with Kendall Moore.
Will make decision on July 11th -> ThaRinger believes (in the discussion on their boards) that he will choose Notre Dame.
RB Ken Malcome has committed to UGA. Saw this on The Ringer's boards and there are some Rivals pay stories on this also.
Some of the Dominoes are starting to fall at RB, with Malcome's verbal and with Storm Johnson committed to LSU the other day also. I expect in about 3 weeks time (after both the FNL and SS camps have concluded) a few more may have fallen as well.
According to The Ringer, S Alec Ogletree has committed to UGA. Big get for UGA and bonus points for keeping away from Miami. I never got my hopes up for him as he seemed to be UGA or Miami all the way.
