Mid forties dad and happily married, and not just to the Cubs. We have one great daughter, who I'm proud to say attended the Yankees at Cubs game in 2003 before she was 1 year old.

The Bill James 2012 Handbook and the Cubs

For Christmas this year, I got myself the Bill James 2012 Handbook. It is $16.47 at Amazon, contains 549 pages and weighs almost two pounds of numbers. Lots of numbers. Some Cubs 2011 nuggets The...

Hot Stove OT: Reds pick up free agent fan

I found this while checking the Cincinnati Enquirer site. Long live the Not-DH League!

Michael Cuddyer, Rockies agree to 3-year deal

Warning: There is no Yu Darvish or Prince Fielder information in this article.

How could the Angels afford Pujols and Wilson?

The Angels have agreed to a new deal with Fox Sports worth at least $3 billion and expected to cover 20 years, two parties familiar with the deal said Thursday. Given the Angels deal and a deal announced last summer for the Rangers, would it be better for the Cubs to own a network (like they do partially with CSN Chicago), or sign with Fox Sports?

MLB issues dress code guidelines for media members

Because we all need gift ideas. I was watching the MLB channel and they actually discussed the Toaster on their 3 up, 3 down segment. Why? Because if you bought Florida Marlins toaster, it would soon be a collectible when the logo changes to the new Miami Marlins logo. Enjoy your breakfast

Cashman is one less likely Cubs GM candidate

From ESPN NY - Yankees want Cashman back. More interesting information towards the bottom of the article regarding their farm system. But he isn't a good fit for the Cubs regardless. His name is too simple for even Cubs fans to butcher. Two words Cash and Man - put them together.

Cubs promote Soriano to Player-Manager-GM in hopes he’ll earn his $18 million per season that way

From The Heckler. Somehow they rolled up the current sentiment of BCB into one tidy article. And this is before Soriano's lineup spot comments.

Prince Fielder hates The Sausage Race and Cheese Curds

And things are so sharp at SI, that "comment" was spelled "commet". Big money, but he would probably be a big ticket draw at Wrigley. Plus, Wrigley usually favors LH power hitters.

OT: A shot in the Ear to Matt Holliday

And it serves him right for that cheap take-out slide on Castro that should have been called Interference. End Sarcasm.

The New Face of Cubs Management

Hire this kid to be Manager. Glare is good. Glare works.

Paul Sullivan's Cubs mailbag - your wacky trade ideas for the Cubs

Because the first one made be laugh out loud at work. Own up if that was one of youse guys.

Phil Rogers on Free-swinging Cubs

Not that swinging! Many here despise Phil Rogers like he's taxes and road construction. But he got this right: "Coaches can talk about it,'' said Thomas, working the City Series for CSN. "But it only matters when guys buy into it. That's tough to do, no matter how much you talk. You have to do it in groups, do it individually, and still a lot of guys just never change.'' "Want disciplined hitters? Acquire the ones who were taught those skills when they played the game for fun, not for a living."

Marlins fire Hitting Coach John Mallee

The Cubs should fire Rudy Jaramillo because that's what all the cool franchises are doing today.

Any chance to get rid of the Chivas ad? One, I'm not buying it. Two, it causes parent vs. child errors. Like I don't have that at home already! OT: Orioles, Gregg agree on $10M, 2-yr deal

This must me the new Baltimore Way: If ex-Cub, sign to Orioles contract Else, ignore player.

New Veterans Committee format actually elects someone

Pat Gillick = In George Steinbrenner = No and less that 8 votes Marvin Miller = No, 11 of out 16 votes Yankees now request Designated Voter for Veteran's Committe to ensure Yankees are elected to HOF and protect their pitchers.

Tulowitzki guaranteed $157.75M by Rockies

Nice move to lock up a franchise cornerstone for his career. Or what should be the best years of his career.

Happy Veteran's Day

The link above goes to the site Baseball in Wartime, dedicated to remember baseball players who served in WW II. Within a link and a scroll down I learned that Ralph Hoak fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

OT: Cubs linked to Brett Favre scandal

If Fox Sports can keep pushing the 2003 NLCS footage, I can link the Cubs to Brett Favre. It's really pretty simple: 1. Get an incredibly beautiful woman in sports entertainment to take a scantily clad picture at Wrigley Field. 2. Place the young woman in the vicinty of the top athletes in their sport. 3. Hand the top athletes a cell phone with the woman's cell phone number in it. 4. Stir pot until it boils over.

Tyler Colvin Engaged

Did I miss this on BCB in August? Congrats to Tyler Colvin and the future Mrs. Colvin

Wrigley rooftops hurting as Cubs, economy struggle

Not a really new story, but I love this line: "If my beer gets warm I'm not going to choke it down, I'm going to get a cold one," said fan Bruce Kowalski, 48, who was at Skybox on Sheffield.

OT: Kindle for BCB and other sports news

I am thinking about dropping my Chicago Tribune delivery and switching to a Kindle. I get the Tribune daily now and I take the sports page on the Metra train into work. But I'm getting tired of the Tribune cost ($208 per year) and the rest of the newspaper goes to waste. Well, recycling actually. So I could purchase a Kindle (~ $150 or $200), and get the Tribune for $10 per month and/or BCB on Kindle for $1 per month. Who has a Kindle and reads BCB and/or the Chicago Tribune on it? Let me know what you think. Thanks.

OT: Man Up for Your Date!

"As soon as we got here and I saw where we were sitting, I said 'Baby, I'm going to get hit," Sarah said. "He said, 'No, you won't. I'll catch it if you do.' We just had this conversation and sure enough, the ball comes at me. He just bailed."

Call the High Strike to speed up game

This article popped up on me from the Sandberg NY Times article. Personally, I would rather see the high strike come back. With all the K-Zones and other replay tools, the off-the-plate strike can only make umpires look worse.

Ken Burns: Put Pete in Hall after he dies

"He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. But he doesn't deserve to know he's in the Hall of Fame," Burns said. "But that's just one person's opinion." One of the most polarizing questions in baseball.

D-Backs and Draft Compensation for First Round Signing Fail

Is it really a Signing Fail when the Diamondbacks pulled the offer off the table and stopped negotiating with their first round draft pick? Should they get an extra 2011 first round pick for deciding not to sign him? Failing to sign the pick is not the same deciding not to sign to the pick If you're the Cubs, this could impact your 2011 first round draft selection. Depending on the final standings, the Diamondbacks could push the Cubs back one slot in the first round.

OT: Favre says no to Vikings return

Even though, as the picture shows, he could eat free at the Pizza Ranch. It baffling how he could pass up that offer.

OT: All Serial Pukers Should Die

Something to take the edge off from the Cubs non-trade movement. Vent as you will.

Roy Oswalt traded to Phillies for JA Happ

How many wins can the Phillies pick up here? 3?
