THe NHL trade deadline is at 1 MT tomorrow afternoon. The Flames have likely made their big splash for the year, so it may well be just a day to watch other teams tinker.

Backlund Recalled

Darryl does know that you can only dress 18 skaters, right?

The recent UFA extensions by the Calgary Flames have begun to solidify their roster for 2010/11 and beyond. M and G takes a look into the crystal ball to see how they'll fill things out.

Matt Stajan Re-ups - 4 years, 3.5 million a year

The Flames continue to sign their UFAs to extensions, with Matt Stajan in the fold for four more years. Too much money, IMO, but a thin market in the summer aided Stajan's bargaining power.

Olympic Gold Medal Open Thread - Canada vs. U.S.

Canada-US for everything. If Luongo can keep it together, we should hear O Canada at about 3:45 Vancouver time.

Canada vs. Slovakia Open Thread

Canada meets Slovakia in the second Olympic semi-final. The winner gets a date with the U.S. on Sunday for gold, so no pressure.

Canada vs. Russia Open Thread

Canada-Russia? Not much of a match-up, is it?

Canada vs. Germany Open Thread

Canada's elimination path starts tonight against Germany. If they lose this one, the Hockey Summit after Nagano will seem like a picnic.

Olympic Super Sunday Open Thread

Super Sunday hits the Olympics, as the Big Six traditional hockey powers face off in three matchups. It has every chance to be the best day of the Olympics.

Canada vs. Switzerland Open Thread

Canada-Switzerland open thread. Eh, oh, Canada go? As if.

Backlund to the A

As per Jeff Marek, Mikael Backlund is re-joining the Heat on their Olympics-fueled sojourn across the continent. I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see him back when NHL teams can resume practicing in about 10 days.

Flames Game Day: Pullin' out of the Last Chance Texaco

Calgary closes its pre-Olympic schedule tonight when they host the Ducks. Scoring more than 1 or 2 goals would be nice, no?

Flames vs Dallas February 11 Scoring Chances/Post Game Thread

Flames vs, Dallas scoring chances. Chances, yes. Goals? Never, by the looks of it.

Flames Game Day: There's no place like, er, home

The Flames start a four game, three and a half week home stand tonight against Dallas. Can Calgary match the Stars' quality forwards, or will they look second best once again?

February 10 News and Notes

M and G'd round-up of Flames and NHL news returns. This week, the Flames stutter, the Oilers dawdle, and Atlanta makes another move.

Flames Game Day: Operation Shutdown

The Flames play their last pre-Olympic road game in the nation's capital this evening. Can they shut down the red-hot Senators?

Flames Game Day: Sunshine and Roses

The Flames move on to Tampa as the Florida portion of their latest roadtrip concludes. Containing the Lightning PP is job one for the re-tooled Alberta crew.

The new look Flames host the Hurricanes before heading east. Is Darryl Sutter done juggling? Inquiring minds want to know.

January 29 News and Notes

Matchsticks and Gasoline's weekly round up of the news is on the loose. This week, Monty Python shows us all how to settle disputes, and who am I to argue with those gents?

Flames Game Day: Just a Little Rain

Calgary rolls in to Phoenix winless in the last eight attempts. Can a date versus the Desert Dogs finally end the drought?

Flames Game Day: Shuffling the Deck

A shorthanded Flames squad hits the Big D this evening. Is the end of Calgary's skid in sight?

Flames Game Day: Stasis

The Flames enter tonight's match-up with St. Louis with rested bodies and burning ears after a layoff filled with questions about their recent play. Is tonight the night they break out?

Moss and Dawes on I.R.

The Flames, relatively healthy this year, are now down two forwards from their top nine. In the Herald story, Darryl Sutter noted that this development wasn't tempting him to make any moves.

Flames Game Day: Bête Noire, The Return

The Flames, having completed the requisite wound-licking after Monday's whipping, return to the ice tonight. The opposition; just the Blackhawks. Oh, dear.

Jaunary 21 News and Notes

It's time for M and G's mid-week round-up. This week, the Flames struggle, Tampa looks, well, like they always do, and Carolina moves on.

Just Another Tale Ending in Tears and Shinpads

Do the Flames really get more shots blocked than average? Oh yes, yes they do. You have no idea.

Flames Game Day: Deep Waters

The Flames head into the Shark Tank this evening in the midst of a four game slide. Can Miikka Kiprusoff repeat his December heroics in San Jose?

Flames Game Day: Crisis? What Crisis?

The goal-shy Flames head to one of their regular dead zones when they play in Anaheim this evening. They never win there, they can't score at all, and yet we'll still watch, so masochism is alive...
