Datsyuk out tonight vs Islanders
Asked how he got hurt, he replied, "it's secret information. KGB tell me, don't tell nobody." He did reveal "I feel it little bit yesterday and I hope it's better today, but not better. I hope it's one game."
No Datsyuk tonight
X Ways the Wi......
This mornings X Ways is currently experiencing technical difficulties. Please bear with us while we find someone to turn the power back on.
Ah, that's better.
Last night was just full of quality from the building crew at the Honda Center. First the power goes out, then they cut Detroit's audio feed, resulting in 30 seconds of Assinine Anaheim Announcers followed by Ken Daniels putting his cell phone on speakerphone.
The result, despite Anaheim's maintenance shenanigans, was the Wings managing to make it look pretty easy and get out of there with a 4-2 win.
Follow me after the jump for some of the highlights (and dim lights) from yesterday.
X Reasons the Wings Should Be Sponsored by BP
Now THAT is what we've been expecting out of the Wings. They played a full 60 minutes and they hounded Edmonton the entire time. Khabibulin was back to his normal "stop everything I can see and more" self, so the Wings made sure he couldn't see much (including a blistering slap shot from Kronner).
I like seeing the Wings put pressure on teams like this. They established a forecheck early, and their backcheck was even better. They didn't give those young whippersnappers from Edmonton any time to get set up, and I'm pretty sure at one point, Jimmy was motioning for the Beer Man.
If they can play like this more often than not, we'll have a playoff spot wrapped up in early March.

X Reasons - Please No Nickleback Edition
There are a multitude of little lies that parents tell their children in order to make childhood more fun. Santa Clause. The Toothfairy. I do love you more than your brother/sister.
But I just found out about one that I've been told since I was a little kid. Detroit has a long and rich musical history. It's a lie.
Bob Seger? He's no Detroiter.
Aretha Franklin? Queen of Soul, but not the Queen of Detroit.
Kid Rock? He may be an American Badass, but he didn't grow up in the metro area.
How do I know this? How did I uncover this carefully constructed lie?
Nickleback is scheduled to play halftime of the Lions Thanksgiving Day game.
Yes, the same Nickleback that even Winnipeg begged to not have play for their first NHL game in 15 years. Their own country doesn't even like them. So the only reason they could possibly be chosen to play at Ford Field during a Lions game would be that there were no other options. There are petitions circulating. But who would you replace them with? There just isn't a rich history to pull from.
What does this have to do with the Wings game last night? Aside from the fact that Detroit played like Nickleback, nothing. I just didn't feel like talking about it.

X Reasons This Is Getting Rediculous
It's like the Lions and Wings have switched places. The Lions are finding new and interesting ways to win games this season, and the Wings are finding ways to lose them.
It's M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A for Christ's sake, we should have better than 4 goals in 3 games against them. The good news is that we only have one more game against them, and it's at home.
In the last 5 games we've (1) been blown out, (2) lost to a winless team, (3) lost to a nemesis, (4) been shut-out, (5) blown a last minute lead. Seriously, how much worse can it get?
Follow me after the jump as we take a look at what the hell is going wrong.
X Reasons Weekends Are Too Short
What happened to lazy weekends? They used to take forever, now it feels like I just left work yesterday evening and I'm already back.
The Wings had a nice lazy weekend though, even after not playing for the week prior. They got their powerplay figured out against a downright BAD Columbus team, and then forgot everything else on Saturday against a not-so-downright-bad Capitals team. Though, that's kinda how Vancouver looked when they came into our building a couple months weeks ago. But they had played Philadelphia, not COLUMBUS!!!

X Ways to Survive Waking Up Late
When I wake up in the morning
And the 'larm gives out a warning
And I don't think I'll ever make it on time.
By the time I grab my books,
And I give myself a look
I'm at the corner just in time to see the bus fly by.
But it's all right because Jimmy's Saved By The Horn.

X Reasons Pulaski Days Are Delicious
This weekend is Pulaski Days in Grand Rapids. Which means lots and lots of delicious Polish food.
The Wings are off to a 2-0 start, and have looked pretty good doing it. We beat our former assistant one night and our old rival the second. Now, we get to spend most of the week going through withdrawals and wondering why there isn't Red Wing hockey on TV.

X Ways to Look Like the Lions
The offseason is thankfully over.
Training camp is over.
Preseason is over.
It's time for real meaningful hockey.
Follow after the jump for the first meaningful X Ways in about 4 months.
X Reasons to be Glad Hockey Is Back
This was the offseason from hell. There's no way around it. Even with the 2004 offseason, the only thing we lost was hockey. This time, we lost much, much more than that. I hope, and pray, that the family, friends and former teammates of those players we lost can move past the hurt. It's not easy, but I just hope we don't lose any more the way we did this summer.
Now, onto the first X ways of the 2011-12 season.
X Reasons to Feel Proud
Well, that didn't turn out quite the way we had hoped.
Then again, after game 3, no one really expected it to get this far. That we were even playing this game showed just what kind of grit and testicular fortitude this team has. This team kept plugging away despite 2 heartbreaking OT losses.
No doubt this one is going to sting for a while, as any elimination loss does, but that will fade and we'll start looking at how we can make next year better.
Follow the jump for your X Ways.
X Reasons to Believe
Holy Hell that was an epic game. The Wings threw everything they had at the Sharks and Niemi, and it almost for naught.
But even after the San Jose took the lead by centimeters, there was still a feeling of hope. This was a Wings team that wasn't going to take "No" for an answer. They were just going to keep picking away, slowly finding those cracks in the armor (and psyche) and widening them. Then a deflection. Then a perfect pass. Then a steal and empty netter. Then it was over.
Game 7. Thursday. History will be made.
X Ways to Change History
Last year, we dropped 3, 1-goal games, put up a 7 spot in game 4 and then proceded to give away game 5.
This year, we dropped 3, 1-goal games, squeaked by in game 4 and then were poised to give away game 5.
And then something inexplicable happened. The team that had shown little heart through the first 42 minutes, suddenly had a fire. They were hustling, they were creating chances, and more importantly, they were capitalizing on those chances. They decided that this series wasn't going to end in 5 games. They wanted at least one last game at home in front of the Red Wings faithful.
And now they have it.
Follow me after the jump for the Game 5 X Ways.
X Reasons I Find Your Lack Of Faith Disturbing
Finally, a couple bounces our way and that glimmer of hope is a bit brighter. This win I think is better than the 7-1 drubbing last year. When you lose 7-1, you can chalk it up to "Just not our night". When you lose 4-3 on final 90 goal, it can put a little bit more doubt in your mind.
Let's hope the San Jose psyche starts to show a few cracks.

X Ways to Keep Things In Perspective
Game 2 seemed a bit more disappointing than Game 1. Maybe it was because we didn't go to OT. Maybe it was because we had to listen to Dave Strader put up with Joe Micheletti. Maybe it's because we've been down this road before and need the Wings to pull a 180 before we run out of road.
And maybe it's because we were all reminded last night that there are things more important than a hockey game. That while we are able to forget about the real world for a few hours and enjoy a hockey game, there are men and women around the world fighting to make it a safer place. To find the evil that still exists out there and bring it to justice. To those men and women, I say Thank You.
And now, our game 2 X Ways.
X Ways to Feel Anticipointment
Well, that was a bit of a let down. I don't think the Wings came out flat, but they were definitely outworked in the second and third. When's the last time the Wings didn't get double digit shots in every period?
The good news, it's only one game, and we have another one, which won't require copious amounts of coffee, in just over a day.
Follow me after the jump to take a look at your Game 1 X Ways.
X Reasons That The Score Is A Lie
Phoenix put up a fight. They didn't roll over and they definitely brought it last night. It makes me wonder if they could have stolen game 1 or 2 if they had spent more time playing hockey and less time throwing the body around. In the end, the Wings win the toughest game of any series and now get a well earned lengthy rest before the second round begins.
Follow me after the jump for the final Round 1 X ways.
X Ways to Command a Series
Well, that was exactly what I wanted to see from the Wings. Come out on their ice, grab them by the throat and just squeeze the life out of the building. It was amazing how quiet that white-out got only a few minutes into the game. Ending this series quickly will allow us to be rested for whomever comes our way next round.
Follow me after the jump for your Game 3 X ways.
X Ways To Rig A Game
1 down, 15 to go. There is only 1 goal this time of year and 1 path to get there. It always seems that first win is the hardest. There's a nervous tension amongst the fanbase about how that first game is going to go. So it's nice when game one comes, we grab it by the throat and we take it for ourselves. Get that one out of the way, and we look to game 2 and scream BRING IT!

X Ways To Finish With A Bang
Well, the pre-season is done. And after 82 games, we get on to the ones that matter. It only takes 16 wins between April and June to secure your place in history, can the Wings put their name on that silver chalice a 12th time?
Follow me after the jump as we run down the final game of the season.
X Ways To Have A Good Weekend
Well, that was a great weekend. Possibly the best 120ish minutes the Wings have played all season. And the results were even better. Clinch the playoffs one day, and the Central the next. This is the Red Wings playoff team, and this is the team that CANNOT be beat by anyone else in the league. Let's hope they decide to show up for 16 games this spring.
Follow me after the jump for the Division Winning X Ways.
X Ways to S the Bed.
Well, this is a game I'd rather forget about. What looked like it was going to be a strong statement game by the Wings, quickly devolved into a cluster puck.
However, it is only 1 out of 82. 1 out of 98 if you count the playoff run this year.
Follow me after the jump for your Opening Day X Ways.
Osgood on LTIR, Joey Mac Recalled
Joey is back, and it looks more and more like Ozzie's career is done.
Per Khan (!) via MLIVE, Ozzie would be available the final 2 games of the season.
Hudler will also be back in the lineup tonight. Let's just hope he didn't pass that flu on to the rest of the locker room.
X Reasons That Games Are 60 Minutes Long And Not 20.
Well that was not quite what I expected. I had 3-0 Wings and a Jimmy Howard PotG. Shortly into the second, I thought was negatively right, with a 3-0 (for 10 seconds anyway) Pens lead and Brent Johnson headed to PotG status. Thankfully, the team woke up and made the third period entertaining.
So, follow me after the jump for your X Reasons, Or How Matt Cooke Learned To Stop Injuring And Love The Rules.
Injury Update
Injury update.
Rafalski is OK and will miss no time.
Datsyuk is day-to-day.
X Ways to Not Get Capped
Well, that was a heck of a game. And about what I expected. Up and down hockey, but still a pretty defensively tight game. Ovechkin is one of the most exciting players to watch, and if a coach can ever get him to play 2-way hockey, it's going to be scary.

Slump Breakers!!! Wings 2, Oilers 1 OT
Well, who would have predicted that for the H2H2 game? Unfortunately, there were no aisleway pushups, but the real winners here were the kids at Children's Hospital of Michigan.
The first period started off solid. The Wings kept up plenty of pressure despite getting outshot 6-8 and seemed like they were ready to turn the corner. Ryan Jones had other ideas. With what can only be described as a mediocre wrist shot that was heading wide of the net, he managed to put Edmonton on the board first. Not quite how you want to see your team break out of a slump. That should have been all the excitement in the first period, but late in the period Jimmy Howard slipped behind the net, and the Oilers got a free shot at an open net. Well, it was open until Niklas Kronwall decided to step in the way and make one hell of a save.
Red Wings nation let out a collective sigh of relief.

V Reasons Shark Bites Can Be Fatal
Well, this is the end of the California games for the season. Well, at least until playoffs when the schedulers will ensure that east coast games are on the weekend and the west coast games are during the week.
Anyway, I've got your V Reasons coming up after the jump.
V Reasons West Coast Games are the Devil
As usual when we play these games that start about 20 minutes before dawn, I'm only going to give V reasons rather than the usual X. It's just too bad the league doesn't listen to my idea about starting these games sooner.
Your V Reasons are just a hop, skip and a jump away...
X ways to win Game 1.
Well, now that I'm on staff here, I figured we'd move these out of the dark, shadowy underbelly of humor over on the right side of the page, and out in the spotlight front and center.
We had a pretty good game last night, so follow me after the jump to see the X ways to win Game 1 of a playoff series.
