A.J. Murray, Brian Gordon, John Rheinecker and Bill White...see 'ya!

I think Murrray, although hurt too often, may have a bit of a career as a LOOGY. White? If he could refine his control, he could be pretty good...but so could thousands of other AAAA guys, I suppose.

Walbeck Out

Matt Walbeck out as Rangers third base coach.

"I was a little bit surprised," Walbeck said. "I thought I was a good fit with the players. But I understand it, too. Ron wanted to bring in his own people and who can blame him for that?"

I thought he was a good manager prospect, but personality is everything.

No word on the rest of the staff, though I expect Rudy Jaramillo and Gary Pettis to be back in their current roles.

Ron Washington expected back in 2009

Team president Nolan Ryan said Tuesday, five days short of the end of the season, that he expects manager Ron Washington to return to the Texas Rangers in 2009.

"I have no intentions of making a change at this point in time," Ryan said. "He’s under contract for next year. I think that speaks for itself."

"I think the players like him," Ryan said. "I think he’s gotten them to respond to them. I think that’s important. I really believe his intent is trying to get them to improve and address our shortcomings."

General manager Jon Daniels will also be back, Ryan indicated, as the Rangers stick to the plan to develop their own players and build a winner from within.

I really hope they get Wash some more/better help, especially regarding the handling of pitching. I am very glad JD is sticking around.

Err, that's Blackie Sherrod. Anywho, Mike does a nice job of profiling the Ranger's 08 season with stats and such, over here.

This is some of the better numbers:

The only rookies in this decade with a higher isolated power number than Chris Davis's .263 were Ryan Braun, Adam Dunn, Jason Bay and Ryan Howard. Lance Berkman posted an ISOP of .263 as a rookie back in 2000. (ISOP is slugging percentage minus batting average).

MJH has a great post up on BMac, with this snippet from our Injury Prevention Savant Fav, Will Carrol:

"I think he has a better shot [now that McCarthy is evidently back to getting more lower body into his delivery]. There's never a guarantee, but none of his injuries were that bad. I agree that [changing mechanics too much] can be a bad thing. I'd be loathe to change things that were working. The idea that we can 'see things' is being proved more and more false, so I'm having less and less faith in coaches that are working off eyesight, guesses and wisdom passed down from ... well, who knows?"

Awesome!

Chris Davis was named AL rookie of the month for July. That shouldn't come as a surprise for Rangers fans.

Davis hit .303 and led all major league rookies with eight homers. He was tied for first among all rookies with 16 RBIs. Davis also had eight doubles, a triple and 23 runs scored. He had a .646 slugging percentage for the month and a .337 on-base percentage.

Frisco lost 2-0.

Tubwood gave up 2 runs, 1 earnie, on 5 hits in 4 IP. The good news? He struck out 6, and only walked 2. The other good news? Springdale is known for it's fried chicken...so Kevin won't waste away, or anything. Z's good buddy went 0-fer...so that sucks too.

Edit: OKC plays tonight at 6:05 MT. Doogie looking to stay healthy.

OT: Isaac Hayes dead at 65

Snap, what a bummer!

Isaac Hayes, the pioneering singer, songwriter and musician whose relentless "Theme From Shaft" won Academy and Grammy awards, died Sunday, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said. He was 65.

A family member found Hayes unresponsive near a treadmill and he was pronounced dead about an hour later at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, according to the sheriff's office. The cause of death was not immediately known.
