Sizemore Best Baserunner 2005-2009

71

Despite only posting a +4 in '09 presumably due to injuries, Sizemore still grades out as the best baserunner in baseball over the past 5 years.

I must say I found this article absolutely fascinating. A must read for any Browns fan.

OBR's McBride responds to Protest

31

Great post by Barry McBride at the OBR that highlights a lot of my feelings about the intentions of the protest. With regards to Randy Lerner, he also hits the nail on the head. "Evil earns my hatred and wrath. Well-meaning failure does not."

Abe Elam clears up some misinformation

Time to officially put the water bottle fine falsehood to rest. Charlie Casserly's information was correct. Second, Coye Francies never threw a punch.

Pay content. I am not going to paste any text since 40% of the article is on Brantley and Carrasco.

BPro: How the Indians got this bad

109

This is pay content. Jay Jaffe at BPro via ESPN Insider takes a look at why the Tribe has disappointed. Interesting article that finds what most of us already know, the bullpen is primarily responsible. The author also questions Shapiro's loyalty to Wedge.

Ravens WR Mason Retires

Tough blow for a thin WR corps. Does Balt step up its efforts for Brandon Marshall?

13

I spoke to Brad Grant last week, and he said that his words [regarding Alex White] were taken a little out of context — it's not a permanent decision to move him to the pen, although they think that's most likely where he'll end up. He'll work in relief if he signs in time to pitch in 2009, and they'll reevaluate the plan after instructional league. I think there's a small chance he ends up a #2 starter, but he didn't show that stuff consistently this year after showing it last year.

Browns Sign WR Furrey

45

I am a fan of this move. I made a comment last year suggesting that Furrey is the type of slot WR I would like to see on the Browns.

Browns Sign Eric Barton

Another Jet. Lots of tackles last year. Two Terps at ILB next year

Orlando Hudson Signs with the Dodgers

One year deal with only $3.5 million in guarantees, $4.6 million in possible incentives

Derrick Ward?

17

"Appearing on the Jim Rome Show Wednesday, free agent Derrick Ward mentioned the Browns, Texans, and Cardinals as potential landing spots." While his age is of concern, Ward has fewer than 400 carries for his career to date and might not have the wear and tear that other runners his age have. His asking price appears to be modest

PTBNL in Byrd Trade Completed

14

"The Cleveland Indians acquired OF MICKEY HALL from the Boston Red Sox today to complete the trade of August 12th that sent RHP PAUL BYRD to the Red Sox for a PTBN. The 24-year old Hall spent most of last season at Double-A Portland, where he hit .232 (61-263) with 16 2B, 13HR and 35RBI in 82 games with the Sea Dogs. Hall also spent time with the Single A Lancaster JetHawks where he hit .216 (8-for-37) in 12 games. The Marietta, GA native was a second-round pick by the Red Sox in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft and owns a 6-year minor league career average of .239 (434-1815) in 538 games."

Savage gets ripped by Yahoo Sports

60

Unless you are young, self-employed or incredibly blessed, you’ve probably had a boss like Browns general manager Phil Savage. You know, a guy who cares only about his own hide, perpetually blames organizational underperformance on his employees and acts like everything he does is above reproach. Oh, and in this case, a GM who goes on the radio the day before Thanksgiving to undercut the head coach he hired in 2005 and signed to a two-year extension last January. In other words: A real horse’s ass.

I blame Dolan for letting him go. and then Shapiro.

Podcast feat. Brantley and his agent

22

Our buddy, the Diatriber, and Tony Lastoria host a podcast featuring Michael Brantley and his agent, Josh Kusnick. It's very long, but they do a nice job interviewing and then also taking on-air calls.

Bryson Undergoing Labrum Surgery

17

Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere. If it has, please delete. Although Bryson pitched in August, he felt sore after his appearance and will undergo labrum surgery. He is expected to be out 6-9 months. This is not good. The recovery rate on labrum surgery is far lower than other operations that pitchers have.
