The Sky Is Falling!!! ...Or Is It?
Some of the reactions and posts I've seen following these last two losses has been so over the top, that I was beginning to wonder if I was missing something. So I figured I would put up a FanPost and see if I can see the faults in my logic, or convince others to back away from the ledge. (Although some could benefit from the impact of the fall...)
The fact that we lost the two games that we were most likely to lose and were underdogs in =/= the reactions of lots of people on this site, including many long time posters. If is even more baffling when you take into account the amount of injuries and poor luck we have had. I too was excited that the possibilities that this season brought, and it sucks that some of those are completely dashed or are out of our control, but some people's reactions have been extreme.
Our defense played poorly in a game on the road against a potent offense with a QB who was making all of the throws. Looking back to last year and the first three games of this year, the Clemson performance is an anomaly, not performances in the UF game from last year, the Chick Fil-A bowl, or two cupcakes and OU this year. Relax people, we aren't about to get blown out every game from here on.
Our offense has been good, despite a lack of running game or starting QB. But because Jimbo doesn't run an exotic scheme that looks cool, people complain about it. And while I agree that our running game has been horrible, we are four games into the season and have had to replace a four year starter at center and quite possibly the best Offensive Lineman in team history. Couple that with bad injury/attrition luck and you have a recipe for a crap sandwich. Trickett has proven to be a great coach and his history here is not defined by the 25% of the 2011 season. However I do think that questions about whether his scheme and Jimbo's are the most compatible are valid.
Basically, losing sucks, but lets try to have some perspective here. If you expected to win a NC and go undefeated this year, I commend your positivity, but you were few and far between (and more than likely wear a straightjacket as your outerwear of choice). The win shares showed that 9-3 +- 1 win or loss was the standard prediction and we are still on pace to achieve that. To try and go back and discount that is revisionist history. So lets get healthy and beat the sh!t out of some teams. (especially UM and UF)
