Athletics Nation PredictAPlay Beta Signups! Play with the A's!

Hey gang.  Just a quick post to say that beta sign ups have begun at www.predictaplay.com.  I am pretty excited about this and make sure that you put in that you heard about it from Athletics Nation.  I am pretty much giving priority to everyone over here since the games I will be testing on the most will be A's games.

As usually post any comments you have here or there.  I check them both :)

A game that will allow you to play along with your favorite sport and isn't nearly as stale as fantasy sports these dyas.

Athletics Nation A first look at a whole new game

Hey folks.  Just letting you all know that I posted the first screenshot of the game I am building.  I am getting pretty excited about it and it works like a champ so far.  I have a few more things to complete before we will be starting beta sign ups which could possibly be next week if all things go well.  Check out the post at www.predictaplay.com.

See anything on there you have questions about?  Anything you see that is missing.  Help me out!  Post your comments here or there either one.

Notice the A's colors and I even got some digs in at the Angels.

Update:

Thanks to everyone for the feedback! I am working really hard on getting beta sign ups done this week.  I plan on giving first priority to AN so keep an eye out for my post this week.

Athletics Nation Risk vs Reward

First off I would like to add that the new SB nation / Athletics Nation looks great! It does run a little slow on Linux but whatever what doesn't. Also Blez if you see this please shoot me an email.

Anyways.  I just wanted to let you all know that I have updated www.predictaplay.com with a new article about Risk vs Reward.  You know that concept that makes you drink 100 beers and then pay for it the next day?  Saying that one comment that you really shouldn't say to your wife.  Well the trade offs are an important part of life and it is no different when building a game.  I elaborate on it on the blog

The game is coming along great and I am contemplating a full season beta test only for the A's.  One setback has been that  the delays from  MLB and other services are too slow.  I need them to be nearly instantanious which means that someone will have to watch the game in an "Admin" type roll.  Know anyone out there who watches a lot of baseball and wouldn't mind geting paid a couple of bucks.  Well stay tuned because beta testing is just around the corner and I will need people to test the admin as well.

Athletics Nation The statistics of baseball...

I threw up the temporary web site for the game I am building this year to generate some buzz and to have a little more control over the page than here.  I did a pretty in depth statistical analysis over on the site http://www.predictaplay.com  Don't worry AN is my first love and gets all the link backs I think I can get away with on the site.

Anyways I found out some interesting stuff.  First off, no one keeps stats on what happens on average during a game.  Like average hits per game, strike outs etc etc.  I took a random sampling of games to come up with these statistics and while I didn't pick 100 games I did do 50 or so split between American and National leagues.  These stats will allow me to set up the point break down for predictions for the interactive game I am building.

The second thing I learned and I talk about on that site is that triples seem to happen far less than I had anticipated.  Not that I suspected they happened all the time but I thought it was a little more than it was.

Athletics Nation It's all in a name...

Well Brad stole my thunder.  I have delayed work on my project to allow you all to play along with the A's and hopefully MLB someday because we just had our first Little A's fan.  She was born 3 weeks ago and it has been great and life changing and has all been good, except not so much time to spend programming. With that being said I am back at it and need some input!

Athletics Nation Want to play along with the A's?

For my first diary I am going to expect quite a bit of feedback so we will see how this goes.

I was sitting at dinner with my Dad tonight and the conversation went something like this

I said "Hey you remember that game we used to play in the 80's while we were at the Coliseum watching a game?"

He said "Yeah you would rent the little devices and play along with the game"

I yelled "YES! That was awesome, what were those things called and why on earth did they do away with it"
