Hi, I'm Ron Barr for EA Sports...

"Chicago plays a tough "in your face" style of hockey. Their defense bodychecks with the best of them and all four of their forward lines forecheck the opposition into making mistakes in their own zone. The raucous fans at Chicago Stadium help make them one of the toughest home teams in the NHL. Jeremy is one of the NHL's brightest young stars. He skates like the wind and scores some of the most amazing goals you will ever see. Jeremy is a fierce competitor who won't be pushed around by the other team. Use him in all game situations and don't hold him back when the game turns rough. Chris is one of the best all round defensemen in the league. He's won the Norris Trophy twice as the NHL's top blueliner and is one of the toughest players in the league. He's also got a rocket of a shot from the point that terrifies goalies. Use him on the point when you've got the man advantage and make sure he's out there in all key defensive situations. Steve's a workhorse on defense who usually forms a dynamic duo on defense with Chris Chelios. He's a good skater and a big guy who lays on some of the hardest bodychecks in the league. Use him to kill penalties and to set up Chelios for an accurate one-timer. Ed has been a top notch goalie for three seasons and has twice won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top netminder. He's already got 16 career shutouts and often psyches out the other team when he gets hot. Ed hates sitting on the bench, so don't be afraid to play him more than you would most other goalies. Michel is one of the league's all time best goal scorers with over 500 to his credit. He's got an accurate shot that can freeze a goalie. Don't hesitate to move Michel into the slot where he can handle the pounding from opposing defensemen. Steve's been a solid player who hasn't missed a game with Chicago in 11 seasons. He's recorded over 900 career points and knows how to check as well. In fact, his defensive awareness is tops among NHL forwards - he excels in all areas, especially when protecting a lead."

Pretty funny stuff from "The Man Your Man Could Smell Like"

But obviously no one can replace Toews, not even the Grimace.

Maybe Bowman and the Hawks gets involved just to make sure it isn't that easy for SCUM to sign him?

Second City Hockey Sports Writing/Talk = Paint By Numbers

So not about the Hawks, but more frustration I must vent about Sports Writing/Talk.  This way, meeshak, you know exactly what you're getting into.

The sports writing/talk, all over, not just in Chicago, is pants-shittingly dumb.  Every day it seems they just are using some AP MadLib.

The newest 'stat,' as I have heard them refer to it, sounds something like this.   The team that wins Game X has an N% chance of winning the series.  ESPN has brought me to the edge.  Their headline this morning, in reference to the NBA Finals, "Three is the new Seven."  No. No. No. (Did I say No 7 times there?) Also, every damned analyst, writer, talker(?) says the next game becomes a must win game.  You lost Game 1, you don't want to be down 2-0, so Game 2 is must win.  Argh.  They make me so angry I begin typing out pirate noises.

I get it, every game is super-duper, please-read-my-blog, oh-shit-i-just-kicked-the-cat-when-a-puck-slid-through-the-goal-mouth, important.

Also, I feel awkward watching my sports casters on TV standing and talking.  ESPN is very guilty of this.  What the hell is going on?  Are they going to lead us in the pledge of allegiance?  Should I stand?  No one wants to have to see Hannah Storm's or Linda Cohn's knees either, wear some suit pants ladies.  CSN has it sometimes, but mostly they're behind a desk, thank you.

I have no conclusion to end this fanpost.

Second City Hockey NHL Concussion Policy/Kim Johnsson Hate

Looking at the NHL concussion policy, I of course started wondering about Kim Johnsson.  Whether or not he has a career after this season is becoming questionable and there are rumors abound about him.  So here are a few things about the concussion rule and then some hate directed towards Kim Johnsson (not by me though).

Second City Hockey A Recent History of Low Seeds in the Conference Finals (2000s)

The Hawks are set to battle the Sharks, 2 and 1 seeds respectively, for the Western crown.  On the other side of the pond, er, league, the Habs just beat the Pens.  An 8 seed moves on.  They await the completion of the Bruins/Flyers, seeded 6 and 7.  The Habs have a chance to match up with the Flyers in the Conference Finals and both those teams had to wait till the last day of the season to find out they were in the playoffs.  Crazy.  I decided to do a little research and found 2 other Conference Final matchups that had some unlikely participants.

To the jump!
