Bleed Cubbie Blue Daytona Cubs

I went and saw the Daytona Cubs play down in Clearwater tonight. I can't say that I was very impressed by any one player. I'm not sure what the prospect status of any of the players is, but going by the stats, there isn't much there.

Sam Fuld, a lefty hitting centerfielder did hit the ball solid every time up and took great routes to several fly balls. He's hitting .300+ with a .390 OBP. Grant Johnson threw a few innings and had nasty stuff, but was all over the place. I can't believe Ryan Harvey was ever touted as a 5 category stud. He showed good power hitting two warning track fly balls off the end of the bat. With his lanky build and lack of contact there is no way he becomes anything special. He did seem like a great guy though, coming over and chatting with fans before and in between games. Ryan Craig had a nice swing, but strikes out a ton.

The two teams were rained out on Tuesday and Wednesday, so they will play doubleheaders today and tomorrow. Of course it was raining when I had to leave in between games.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Luis Terrerro anyone?

Just got released by Arizona. Is a righthanded bat who has shown flashes, but never really been given the chance. His numbers last year were bad, but if you've seen him play, he has tools. If it's true that the Cubs will be getting the 25th man from outside the organization, then he might be a fit. He can play all outfield spots well.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Dusty is already preparing excuses to sit Cedeno

This from the Trib:

"Baker puts a premium on defense, and Cedeno is no slouch himself, but he has to show he can keep the starting job. Baker said Monday that Cedeno has been pressing a bit. He wants Cedeno to "be himself," though Cedeno understands the pressure is on him and left fielder Matt Murton to succeed."

If there was any doubt before, I am now convinced that Cedeno will have a very short leash. Dusty is already setting up excuses. If Cedeno has a slow first week, I can hear Dusty now,"We're just going to give Ronny a little time to clear his head."

I'm not sure Cedeno is anything special, but I have a sinking feeling we may never know. Here's to Cedeno hitting .500 the 1st week of the season.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Dusty vs. Bobby Cox

This says it all.

Mike Remlinger - R - Braves

Needing something to help him neutralized left-handers, Mike Remlinger is working on a curveball.
Remlinger's No. 2 pitch has been his changeup, something that's far more effective versus lefties than righties. As a result, he's never been a specialist. The Braves will probably only carry him if he shows he can handle lefties. "We always used him against righties," manager Bobby Cox said. "If the curve is going, we can do anything [with him]."
