NOTE: I don't know if I'm allowed to promote this sort of thing, so if so, just take it down, and I apologize.

Hey there hoopers. I am not usually a fan of Rick Reilly, for a variety of reasons, but one of his articles on the worldwide leader right now has a pretty sweet deal. He is championing a charity that buys nets for African refugees to avoid getting malaria from mosquitos, and it seems to be working so far. Now, if you donate 10 buckaroos, the NBA Cares will throw in two tickets to an NBA game from now until the end of January. It seemed like a good deal for a great cause, so I thought I'd share the news. Here's the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=4741009

Arrowhead Pride Just for fun, lets look at Pro-Football-Prospectus 2008

Prior to last season, they wrote this about Tyler Thigpen:

"Okay, we sort of made fun of Thigpen in last year's "Going Deep section. Apparently we didn't know what the Vikings had, and neither did the Vikings. They thought they could pass their unknown 7th rd pick through waivers to the practice squad, but the Chiefs snapped him up, and they think he really could turn into something. He's a top athlete with a strong arm, but he also makes quick decisions. His problem is experience--like a lot of Division I-AA or Division II stars, he relies too much on physical gifts, trying to make plays that worked fine against the lesser athletes he played against in college but will get him destroyed in the NFL. If he can learn his way past that, it isn't like the Chiefs are loaded at the position. In a perfect world, he turns into their version of Derek Anderson."

Not a bad assessment I'd say. At least they didn't crush him. Now for the funny, here's what they said about Matt Cassel:

"The scouting report on Rusher McFumbles hasn't changed: Great size, great wheels, knows the system, works cheap. Patriots coaches have exactly zero confidence in him, which is why they hired Vinny Testaverde to caddie for Tom Brady two years ago and allowed Cassel into the game only when the Patriots held 35-point leads last year (then took him out when he turned the ball over). Kevin O'Conell is younger and has more upside, while Matt Gutierrez can do everything Cassel does for the same low, low price. Of course, if Cassel is released, some team might sign him just to learn some sensitive Belichick secrets. Matt: If you see a pinpoint of red light hovering over a vital organ, duck."

Wow I think Aaron would like a redo on that one.

If there are any other skill players you want me to look up, just let me know.

Arrowhead Pride Does anyone know if there are any sabermetric-like stats currently available for football?

I'm really interested in finding some more advanced statistics for football. Pretty much the only place I've found is Football Outsiders. I know about Defense-Adjusted Value Over Average (DVOA) and Defense-Adjusted Yards Above Replacement (DYAR), but I'm looking for something more along the lines of Win Shares like in baseball. Does anyone know anywhere that has something like this? I realize football is a team sport so it can be much harder to isolate performance, but just wondering if anyone knows anywhere were people are doing this kind of statistical research. Thanks?

Royals Review Peavy to the Bad Guys

Acc to ESPN, Peavy is going to the White Sox for 4 players if he is willing to waive the no trade clause. Lets all hope that he has some annoying in-laws in  Chicago or something. In other bad news,

Sources told Gammons that White Sox shortstop prospect Gordon Beckham is not among the players in the deal. Beckham was the eighth overall pick in last year's amateur draft.
