Saw this on deadspin, Bengals.com has a feature on Chase Coffman making noise in camp, include how he learned toughness as a child...by riding sheep.

"This one was all my fault," Bannister said. "It’s up to the starting rotation to get us out of this and to go out there and have quality starts. So I put the blame on myself today."

Not your typical Banny response, but hard to disagree with the guy.

"OK, now the tying run is at the plate," Bloomquist said. "Miggy is a good fastball hitter. We could tie this thing up. He got a walk. Now, he’s a base hit away from scoring position.

"Then Zeus hit a gap, and your thought process shifts from tying it to let’s win this thing."

From here on out, let it be known...David DeJesus' new nickname is Zeus. If you don't like it, you can take it up with Willie Bloomquist.

In six starts, Greinke has pitched six games good enough that if you were playing a video game against him you'd think about hitting reset.

"I don’t know why there were so many people here today," Greinke said. "I know it was fireworks night, and I guess there was a (Buck Night) giveaway."

The difference between the situations of Greinke and Hamilton is that Greinke didn't choose for this to happen. If you haven't dealt with a lot of depression or anxiety in your life, you're a special and lucky person I guess. And how do a lot of people choose to deal with depression and anxiety? Plenty of alcohol consumption and/or drug use. It's likely this was how Hamilton chose to handle such situations in the past, and heck, I've certainly been known to drink away my sorrows on occasion.

First thought when I saw this image on the Star...Aaron Curry has mastered Zoolander's Blue Steel look.

"Chase Coffman will not be a bust. He will catch numerous touchdown passes in the NFL. He will be a high-impact rookie, a difference-maker for some quarterback, an easy-to-exploit weapon for a creative offensive coordinator."

As a Chiefs fan, I would love, love, LOVE seeing Coffman in red and gold. Doubt it happens, because we (as of yet) don't have a second round pick, and I'll be a little surprised he's there in the third round.

"He is exactly the kind of football player Pioli and Todd Haley say they want to bring to Kansas City. He’s a natural-born competitor, a loyal soldier and a high-character individual. Because of the influence of his parents, particularly his father, Chase can handle absolutely everything that goes along with being a top-flight NFL player.

Money won’t change him. Fame won’t swell his head. And the elevation in competition won’t make him melt. He’s going to raise his game and be one of the most effective red-zone receivers in the league."

Strong words from Whitlock calling for the Chiefs to draft Coffman. As a Mizzou alum who's watched Coffman over the years, if we can work out getting a second round pick from a trade, or if he's there for our third pick, I LOVE picking up Coffman.

The publicity machine for Greinke gets going. He shares the award with Ian Kinsler, who (as pointed out in the article) Greinke struck out twice in four at-bats Saturday.

This had to be posted, even if only for this line...

"If Willie Bloomquist is the Spork, what does that make Teahen? A solid-gold Swiss Army knife, the one that’s like 2 inches thick and has 43 different gizmos attached?"

Seems appropriate after his recent five-hit game, no?

Grant's gonna reportedly make about 2-million a year from Bama. Obviously, this meams CMA won't be heading to coach the Crimson Tide, but the rumor was Mizzou was preparing to fork over about 1.3 milllion per year to Anderson. Obviously, we're not in Alabama's league when it comes to funds, but any chance that while making this more likely Anderson stays, he also carries a higher pricetag?

Expect, within a few days following the end of Missouri’s basketball season, an extension offer to go out to Tigers coach Mike Anderson.

And expect that offer to be in the $1.3 million per year range, likely for five years, according to two sources within the university administration.

My reaction...WOOT!!!

Guy claims he's a Mizzou fan, but I've got some doubts after his description of Maclin as a "fragile nancy."

Yes, he's got injury concerns, but I haven't seen anything that would warrant calling him a wuss.

Evander Hood is this year's Blair Cherry Award Winner.

The former Palo Duro Don helped the Missouri Tigers to an Alamo Bowl win against Northwestern.

The Blair Cherry Award is given to the top college football player from Amarillo.

"This brings us to the biggest fraud of them all... Chase Daniel. A friend of mine has a connection with some NFL scouts. He told me that the scouts came to watch Daniel's backup instead of Chase. Daniel appears to be out of shape and is the only QB in this group who is close to wearing a size 40 pant."

I can get on board with his general premise that offenses in the Big 12 benefited from poor defenses to an extent, but there's just so much I disagree with here (i.e. measuring a college player's value by how he'll perform in the NFL, or measuring a conference by the number of QBs drafted) that I just had to share.

Chase Coffman broke the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot on Missouri’s final offensive play of the Alamo Bowl.

"It shouldn’t affect his draft status," the MU tight end's father, Paul, said on Wednesday.

From the Star...kind of shoots down that ridiculous notion of the Flying Buckleshoes potentially heading to the Alamo Bowl over us...though I suppose I'd be willing to give them the Alamo Bowl if we're heading to the Fiesta Bowl instead.

The good news? Hillman goes on record saying they're going to platoon first base between Shealy and Ka'aihue.

The bad news? Hillman said this means more Ross Gload at the corner outfield spots, in right and left.

The funny news? Hillman felt the need to make sure everyone knew he had already run this idea past Gload first. Seriously, why does Trey think it even matters if Gload is ok with the switch?

I can just see Hillman putting his arm around Gload's shoulder, consoling him Ross that it's going to be ok, that he still has a chance to play if "he turns up his work in the outfield — in left and right."

Poor Gload.
