Not a lot of warning, but he's gonna be on the radio for his first interview since the trade
The 5 Biggest Swings of the Bat in 2010
Over the last couple of seasons, I've come to love the statistical analysis done by Fangraphs. Specifically, the analysis of Win Probability Added or WPA. For those who are unfamiliar with the Fangraphs or that statistic will still recognize WPA from this site's Jay of the Day (JOD) award we give at the end of the game. In essence, every time a player come up to bat, the site determines how much they added or subtracted from the likelyhood of their team winning. Hence, Win Probability Added.
If one were to look into the inner depths of the Fangraphs database, you can look up every at bat from every game of the season. So, when I had a couple hours, and decided to look up the 5 Biggest Swings of the Bat the Jays hit this season. And by that, I am referring to the 5 At Bats that had the biggest upswing in winning probability added to victory.
Now, before you read the Top 5 after the jump, take a couple minutes and see if you can think of/remember those really big hits...
The Top 5 after the Jump.
Vernon Against Texas this Season
As many of our fans may have noticed, Vernon Wells has been playing very well against Texas this season. How well? Lets take a look at the Game Logs from Fan Graphs...
| Date | Team | Opp | AB | WPA |
| 04-May | TOR | @TEX | 4 | 0.315 |
| 04-Jul | TOR | @TEX | 3 | 0.276 |
| 04-Aug | TOR | @TEX | 3 | 0.235 |
| May-14 | TOR | TEX | 5 | 0.295 |
| May-15 | TOR | TEX | 4 | -0.067 |
| May-16 | TOR | TEX | 3 | -0.012 |
| 09-Jun | TOR | TEX | 4 | 0.297 |
| 09-Jul | TOR | TEX | 3 | 0.217 |
As you can see, those are some disgusting WPA numbers. Further Analysis after the jump.

Jose Batista Player Profile
Baseball Prospectus has a nice piece of Batista's season, and what to expect next year.
Three Fisher Cats make the Eastern League All-Star Team
Outfielders
Darin Mastroianni, New Hampshire Fisher Cats
(.304, 4 HR, 45 RBI, 95 R)
After hitting .271 with 38 stolen bases during the final 71 games of the 2009 season with New Hampshire, Darin Mastroianni returned to the Fisher Cats this season and has put up even better numbers. The 5'11", 190 lb. speedster is batting .304 with 24 doubles, five triples, four home runs, 95 runs scored, 45 RBI and 43 stolen bases over 121 games this season. Mastroianni, who is a resident of Huntersville, North Carolina, is currently leading the league in runs scored (95), stolen bases (43) and walks (75) and is also currently ranked among the league leaders in hits (146-tied 1st), on-base percentage (.398-2nd) and batting average (.304-3rd). Darin was selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending May 9th earlier this season and was also a member of the Eastern Division roster for the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game in Harrisburg.Eric Thames, New Hampshire Fisher Cats
(.293, 25 HR, 97 RBI, 92 R)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats outfielder Eric Thames entered the season rated by Baseball America as the 18th best prospect in the Blue Jays organization, and he will certainly be moving higher up the list following his performance this season. Thames is hitting .293 with 25 doubles, six triples, 25 homers, 97 RBI and 92 runs scored in 124 games with the Fisher Cats this season. The 23-year old, who is in just his second professional season, currently leads the league in RBI (97), total bases (251) and extra-base hits (56). He is also ranked among the league leaders in home runs (25-2nd), runs scored (92-2nd), slugging percentage (.528-3rd) and hits (139-5th). Eric, who was chosen in the seventh round of the 2008 draft out of Pepperdine, was selected as a member of the Eastern Division roster for the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game in Harrisburg.Right-Handed Starter:
Kyle Drabek, New Hampshire Fisher Cats
(14-9, 2.98 ERA)
Kyle Drabek got his first taste of the Eastern League with the Reading Phillies last season and put together a record of 8-2 with a 3.64 ERA over 15 games. The 22-year old returned to the Eastern League this season with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats following a trade to the Toronto Blue Jays in a package for Roy Halladay and continued his dominance, collecting a league-high 14 wins with 123 strikeouts and a 2.98 ERA. Kyle not only leads the league in wins, but is also ranked among the league leaders in innings pitched (154-2nd), batting average against (.216-2nd), shutouts (1-tied 2nd), strikeouts (123-3rd), ERA (2.98-3rd) and WHIP (1.19-4th). Drabek, who is a native of Victoria, Texas, has allowed two earned runs or less in 14 of his 25 starts this season, including eight games in which he has not allowed an earned run. The 6'1", 190 lb. hurler won the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the week ending July 4th and was also the starting pitcher for the Eastern Division at the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game in Harrisburg and pitched one shutout inning.

Why I hate Computers Simulations
wroth91 posted this back at the start of the season, and I thought it would be fun to look at it again.
Remember that awesome ESPN article that used a computer to simulate the season, and basically had Romero as the worst AL pitcher and Batista as the worst AL batter. While worst migh tbe an exageration, looking at it again, it really shows that sometimes computers and numbers don't know jack about the sport.
History of 8 HR Games
Today was the 19th time in history. The 10 the Jays got in '87 is the record. Oh, and the Jays almost won a game in '77 when the OTHER team hit 8.
Interesting Statistics on Jedi from Fangraphs
Ignore the "Joey Bats" crap.
What caught my eye was this little tidbit...
Jose Batista To Left Field:
wOBA ISO BABIP HR/FB
0.650 0.699 0.281 46.8
That, my good sirs and ladies, is a Sick Sick line.
How nasty is the AL East?
Beyond the Boxscore has the weekly power rankings up, and the author has added a (complex) strength of schedual metric to the ratings. It's now hard to guess that the Jays fared a little better under the new metic.
Jose Batista Facts
In case you didn't know, Jose Batista is the current HR leader in the Majors. Craig over on Bluebird Banter has some other interesting Jose Batsista facts that you probably didn't know.
Stranded Jays on Base
I'm sure you, like me, get absolutely frustrated by how many times the Jays get a couple runners on with none out, and then proceed to fail to score.
Well, Beyond the Boxscore has a great little chart detailing runners stranded on base. I think the results will likely surprise.
JP discussing the Trade
Check out Riccardi discussing the trade with Atlanta. Spoiler alert, he really likes the prospects that Atlanta got.
Chandler to Dallas
It looks like the Calderon deal has been 'Bing'ed (get it, Chandler...). Mavs are getting him instead.
Gonzo vs Scoots
Just found an article over on Foxsports. The author did a comparison beytween Scutaro and Gonzalez after the first month of play, looking at Offence, Defence, Salary, and Intangibles. At the end, he has some comments on AA's work so far as GM (spoiler, its positive).
FanGraphs and Early Season Batting Stats
Click here to check out a nice little article over on FanGraphs about some interesting early season stats. Vernon and the Jays as a whole get discussed a few times, and make the finally summary at #2 (and #3).
A couple of lessons for the day:
1. Houston is really frickin’ bad with the stick.
2. Toronto batters swing for the fences and have no idea what “small ball” or “strategy” means.
3. The Rangers are no longer one-dimensional (Here that Toronto?).
Interesting Pitching Matchup last night in Vegas
Check out this link with some photos from last night in Vegas when the 51's played Fresno...
Active Pitchers and the HOF
Beyond the Box Score has a great article (found here) about active pitchers and their chances of making the Hall of Fame.
At first, I was intrigued by the fact that basically the article dictatates and Doc and CC are the only ones with a (slim) chance, and thought, "way to go doc!".
Then I started to ponder that change in landscape in starting pitching around the league. Will 250 wins become the new 300? If so, then Wakefild and Moyer deserve to get it in, which I am skeptical about. Will stats like WAR become the new groundwork for voters? Cause a lot of them old baseball writers around the league still probably don't know what WAR even is.
In the next few years, we will likely see Randy Johnson, Pedro, maybe Clemens, maybe Schilling, maybe a couple more get selected, but after that, who knows. It will be interesting to see how HOF voters vote moving forword.

Eyes off of Bosh, Now on James
Last Night's Victory...
did more than give the Raps a W. It seems already that the media attention has already gone from "Bosh as a Free Agent" and is back to "Lebron as a Free Agent". I know the media is always "bandwagony", and I am still sure that Cleveland will be ahead of the Raps come season's end, but, with last nights win, it seems, for the next little while at least, that "Bosh's Contract Status (TM)" will be out of the spotlight.
And that is good news for the Raps.
