What it will take to sign Cespedes

12
"In January of 2010, Chapman signed a six-year deal worth $30.25 million. Cespedes, the source said, could be seeking more than double Chapman’s salary over eight years. Technically, no negotiations can take place until after he is declared a free agent." - Joe Frisaro ____________________________________________________________ If 8/60 gets Cespedes signed, that works out to $7.5 million per year. He would be 33 in the final year of his contract. At about $4.5 million for 1.0 fWAR, he would have to average over 1.67 fWAR/year to generate surplus value.

Marlins have offered Pujols $225 million over 9 years?

9
"The Miami Marlins aren’t messing around. Their standing offer to Albert Pujols(notes) is believed to be for nine years. With a competitive average annual value (say $25 million), that’s $225 million, minimum, and that’s more than what the St. Louis Cardinals are believed to have offered in the spring. Is it possible that two weeks into November Pujols could already have what will be his best offer?" Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports _______________________________________________________________________________ Joe Cappozzi of the Palm Beach Post is now reporting that the Marlins have offered Pujols a 9 year deal, but for less than $200 million.

Silver anniversary: shake-up in Mets ownership

+
"Twenty-five years ago today, on Nov. 14, 1986, a big and important change happened to the New York Mets—they got new owners. Sort of. Perhaps it would be better to say the existing ownership group reshuffled itself. Doubleday & Co. sold its share of the Mets for $80.75 million to Nelson Doubleday and Fred Wilpon." by Chris Jaffe of The Hardball Times Click for the rest of the article
