Peter Regin may be done for the season

56

According to Bruce Garrioch, Peter Regin may be out for the rest of the season after hitting his shoulder into the boards on Saturday night. This means that barring a call-up of Corey Locke, the second-line centre position will go to either Nick Foligno or Zack "Z. Smith" Smith.

Newly-acquired goaltender Craig Anderson will make his first start as an Ottawa Senator tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Anderson was acquired Friday morning from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Brian Elliott.

Pascal Leclaire injured... again...

3

NBC's ProHockey Talk blog is reporting that Senators goaltender Pascal Leclaire is injured. Again. Apparently Leclaire suffered a lower-body injury against New Jersey on Friday. The severity is not known, but he looks questionable for Monday night against Atlanta. If Leclaire isn't able to go, look for Robin Lehner to get the call-up.

Defenceman David Hale put on waivers

17

TSN's Bob McKenzie reported on Twitter this morning that the Ottawa Senators have put defenceman David Hale on waivers. If he clears waivers, as of right now it is unclear whether Hale will remain in Ottawa or be sent to Binghamton. With Filip Kuba still injured, this would leave the Senators with six defencemen on the roster for opening night: Chris Phillips, Sergei Gonchar, Erik Karlsson, Chris Campoli, Matt Carkner, and Brian Lee. It is also worth noting that the Senators' official site lists both Hale and Derek Smith on the team roster, although D. Smith was sent to the AHL on Saturday.

Senators make final roster cuts, Cowen returned to Spokane

10

The Ottawa Senators announced their final roster cuts during this evening's game against the New York Rangers. Jared Cowen, the 9th-overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, was returned to the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. The other cuts see Robin Lehner, Patrick Wiercioch, Derek Smith, Cody Bass, Bobby Butler, Ryan Keller, Francis Lessard and Corey Locke being sent to Binghamton in the AHL.

Montreal beats Ottawa 4-2 in game nobody watched

Tonight's game wasn't broadcast on television, so Senators fans were forced to turn to the radio (and the dulcet tones of Dean Brown) for coverage of the game. Since we couldn't watch the game, it...

Two quick thoughts on Canucks-Oilers

1. Martin Gerber was perfect in his half of the game. 2. Peter Schaefer scored a shorthanded goal and was the game's second star, and the only Canuck to earn one.

Penguins defenseman Alex Grant released from hospital

+

Alex Grant, as you may recall, was taken off the ice on a stretcher after being brutally checked from behind by Ottawa Senators forward David Dziurzynski just 2:22 into yesterday's rookie tournament game. Grant suffered a broken wrist and whiplash, but thankfully no other serious damage.
