Mile High Hockey Worn with Pride

It appears the 2011/2012 Avalanche Marketing team have come up with next years campaign. If you haven't been to the website recently, it just got a makeover today, and with it we are getting a preview of the new slogan "Worn with pride".

Well no shit Colorado. If there is a player in the league wearning the outfit without pride, well they would be Arnasoned  jettisoned so quickly it would make your head spin. Seriously, I don't live in Denver but if I did, I would make every effort to get 90% of the office staff working for the Avalanche fired, and offer my own services at half the pay just so I could run a campaign we could be proud of for a change.

Something has to give soon. I can't take another year of apathy from the head office regarding the fans. /rant

Edit - I see that Dater posted about this in early May on the Denver post. I missed it but I still need to discuss my hate for this teams marketing.

Ricky just announced this on his twitter account, check it out - LA pride, I don't think we'll be seeing this one in Canada

TSN's baseball reporting is suspect at best, but even if this is remotely true its a farce. Lets cut the deal in half and say its 3 years for a total of $75mil. Thats still a long way from the 3 year, $45 mil offer thats on the table.

I really hope this is the end of a legacy in New York. I'd love to see Jeter get his 3000th hit elsewhere

Olli Jokinen gets 3 games for crosschecking Baron Von Big Shnoz in the face. The NHL is a slightly better looking league for the next 3 games

This is a pretty good write up. Looking through the comments at the bottom I'd say the Av's have more fans across Canada then i would have expected. At the very least we are getting some respect from the rest of the league and everyone agrees that our future is on the up and up. No mention of Jones in the write up and a few remarks I disagree with, but overall a pretty good write up. Good bit of praise for Dutchy

Here is the other link, included only for completeness. Frolov for 3mil to the Rangers. Guess the Avs will be going in-house to hit the cap floor this year

As good old boy Don Cherry calls him, it looks like its pocahontas to the Kings. Expert Analysis - Both Frolov and Ponikarovsky play seasons that are identical to their career averages.

Let the cap prognosticators have at it. The Av's have roughly $25mil to through at some Kovulchuk player. I say do it.

Mile High Hockey Horton Hears a who? A Bruin.

Nathan Horton is now a Boston Bruin having been officially shipped there this morning. Here's the link, details to follow as they are released. 20+ goals for 5 straight seasons on an awful Florida squad. Not a bad pickup for the Bruin's provided they didn't give up too much, like the 2nd overall pick. Thanks a pantload Toronto for being so bad so consistently.

I would say I am disappointed about this, but heres my take - the Avs are absolutely loaded with guys who are going to fill this role as competent 20 goal scorers in this league. If they want to make a serious run for the cup, they don't need to be brining in secondary scoring. This is a team that is from 1st-3rd line full of great 2nd liners, with a few who have potential to develop into elite players. I'm 100% on board if they want to go after some elite talent via free agency either this year or next. I think they want to see what this Duchene kid does next year before they make any decisions.

Bluebird Banter You took me by surprise...

Hi all. I thought that in honour of the Jays being tied for the league lead in taters this far into the season that I'd take a closer look at some of the numbers.

Shocking fact #1 - Vernon Wells has 8 HR on the season. That puts him on pace for 49 dingers. I'm not one to read too much into paces, especially this early into the season, but I think we can all admit that while we hoped for a rebound to his old form, we didn't necessarily expect it.

Shocking fact #2 - Alex Gonzalez has a career high of 23 HR over a 159 games played. He also has 8 HR on the season, a 49 pace as well. For a guy that this site projected for 15 HR on the season, I think we can all say that Gonzo has been a welcome surprise for a guy that was brought in to protect pitchers.

I ask you this - In this young season, what early season HR statistic has you more shocked - A return to form from a 20 million dollar player, or unexpected offense from a player marked as a Defense first guy.

Todays title comes from the Guess Who - Laughing.

What has been the bigger shock to you so far this season?

Mile High Hockey Praise for Duchene

Great acticle about the Winter Classic from TSN.ca columnist Ray Ferraro. He posts a short exceprt on the Colorado Vs. Ottawa game that you guys will like;

"I watched Colorado in Ottawa this week and was really impressed with two youngsters. Chris Stewart is 22, was a first round pick in 2006 and has been a little slow to develop. He skated powerfully, has a heavy shot and was determined. He also had nine goals in 14 December games. Matt Duchene is simply a star in the making. His stats at 21 games were identical to Steven Stamkos last year (2-5-7). Stamkos finished with 23 goals and Duchene has 20 points his last 21 games. I believe that Duchene will beat out Tyler Myers for Rookie of the Year. I won't be surprised at all if he is involved with the 2014 Olympic team selection process (if there is one involving NHL players of course). He is that good."
