This is a new segment that I hope to do every time the Dolphins win a game. I will pick what I think was the most crucial play of the game and break it down for all you fine viewers at home. This is going to be done as in depth as I can and to the best of my ability, but there definitely could be a mistake somewhere, so if you see on feel free to chime in what you think.

What I'm looking for in the PotG:

1.) Great Play Call

2.) Great Execution

3.) A Game Changer in some way

It may not be that flashiest play, but it is what I think is the most crucial. This Week's Play of the Game is Chad Henne's 3rd and 10 completion to Greg Camarillo in order to make it first and goal in the game winning drive. More info after the jump.

The Formation

As you can see in the above picture the Dolphins came out in a pretty standard shotgun. Two backs in the backfield for added protection. Two receiver's right and one left. A pre-snap read indicates that the Jets are going to run their favorite blitz, an overload to one side. Also the position of Kerry Rhodes on the left also indicates that the backside corner may blitz. Either way it is pretty safe to say that the Jets are going to be in either Cover 1 or Cover 0. The Jet's love this blitz because it brings more people to one side than the Phins can block, thus forcing the Second game starter to make a mistake....or not. This is where the play calling genius of Dan Henning comes into play. But first let's look at the routes that each receiver is running along with the actual coverage of the Jets.

The Routes, The Blitz, and The Coverage

Looking at the next diagram you can see, without the blocking, how the play unfolds. Camarillo runs a deep comeback and he is the intended receiver. We know this because Henne said after the game that they hadn't really hit the play in practice. So he had unsuccessfully thrown to Greg in practice, this time we know he connects. Now to the other receivers. I love the crossing route of Ginn and Bess, though I would like to see them in reverse. In a moment when we look at the blocking you'll realize how amazing this route combo is. Due to the Cover 1 (or 0?) the drags create picks which can open Ginn up underneath if Camarillo isn't open. This leads us to the coverage. As the pre-snap indicates it is either Cover 1 or Cover 0. The main difference between the two is the back Safety. If he is covering Polite it is Cover 0, if he is not then it is Cover 1. The film never really shows what he is doing so we don't know for sure. Anyway, what is interesting is that the backside corner decides to cover Brown over Ginn and instead Ginn is covered by the Rhodes. The blitz is also as expected, the overload to one side. Is Rex Ryan really THAT stupid? Seriously, I was predicting his blitzes all night, and I'm only a Senior in High School. When you show your linebackers on every play AND THEY COME, that is just retarded. How about some exotic zone blitzes Rexapotomous? Back to X's and O's, let's move to the blocking and put it all together!

Blocking

This is what makes the play so brilliant. The blocking scheme, only used once prior in the game up until this point, counters Rex's predicable blitz. By rolling out and cover a "spot" rather than a "man" it counters Rexapotomouse's blitz allowing Henne plenty of time to throw.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So Why is it Worthy of PotG?

Let's look at the criteria shall we?

1.) Great Play Call: Check! The play is able to effectively null Ryan's blitz. If the fat oaf hadn't been so stupid he would have called a zone blitz or a backside overload so that Henne couldn't roll out. I just can't see his reasoning behind calling it like that. Plus the coverage leaves the corners one on one with the receivers making the crossing route and the comeback equally effective.

2.) Great Execution: Check! The play speaks for itself. Henne rolls out, very little pressure, and a nice snag by Camarillo. By the way, it was a perfectly thrown ball. As the booth pointed out, it was low and outside. If it isn't caught by his intended receiver then there is ZERO % chance that it is picked off. He already had the field goal, no need to throw it away.

3.) A Game Changer in some Way: How is it NOT a game changer? It's 3rd and 10. Almost every Dolphin Fan in the country was saying "Looks like the Jet's have us right where they want us, third and long. Well Fin Fans, times are changing here in Miami. We converted the third and long and set up the game winning play. I was raving over this play and it deserves the title of this week's PLAY OF THE GAME!

Don't agree? Did I miss something? Friendly argument? I wanna hear the thoughts from the best fans in the nation!

Jeff Ireland is stepping in to stop Crowder, Ryan feud

According to ESPN blogger, Tim Graham. Jeff Ireland is sick of the distractions of this argument.

"It's about playing football, that's what I know," Ireland said of the Ryan-Crowder debate. "It's about playing football."

Ireland knows what's up. I'm all for the trash talking of Channing Crowder, but this organization takes no crap from its players. Though it seems like this argument is all in good fun for our starting middle linebacker, it is clear that the front office wants no distractions on this football team whatsoever.

When asked whether the club has spoken to Crowder about not making a national scene, Ireland replied "That's a clubhouse thing. I'll deal with that myself."

Im glad that the front office is keeping an eye on the attention the media may be giving us. This is what makes this team different than the Jets. We'll win a Super Bowl because the front office knows how to handle players. The Jets will be in a rut for the next year and a half or so because their head coach is an obese clown. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of this plays out.

Source

Rytackle's Thoughts Now

First and foremost I want to state that I am not trying to copy Rzayo's ITM or anything like that, I keep meaning to do a lengthy post about what I think about our Phins, but I'm just so lazy I havn't gotten to it (Plus I've had a more Homework than than Pacman has convictions). Let me just give you a run down of how this post is going to flow, Kinda like a table of contents for you avid book readers out there. First off I'll talk a little bit about *Last Season*. CP10, Wildcat, Yeremiah Bell. Plenty of memories that we gotta keep fresh. Then I'll break into some *Free Agent Reflection*, I've got some pretty hefty thoughts on the 3 G's signings (more in that section). Finaly Ill finish with some *Random Thoughts*. Read if you want, just something for you guys to do. Let's get to it.

Last Season

Alright I'll admit it I have a man crush on Bell

via cache.daylife.com

So yeah, last season was Phan-tastic (is it gay how we use Ph for stuff that starts with F). I've got to admit before our great run even happened at all I was the first person to call the Chad Pennington signing a bad move. I was just sick of us taking old, terrible QBs and trying to make something out of them. Gus Ferotte=Fail. There is one thing that I failed to account for though when we picked up CP10 and that's that he is a freaking GENIUS. Like seriously he probably could invent the west coast offense if it already hadn't been made. His intelligance allowed us to win probably 5 out of our 11 wins simply by going through this in his mind "Should I try to squeeze the ball? Naw it'll be a pick, WOH running back open in the flat" instead of Cleo Lemon thinking "INTERCEPTION......DON'T DIVE INTO THE END ZONE WHEN IM 2 FEET FROM IT". When life give's you Lemons...release them.

Anyway enough about CP10, we hear a lot about him I NEED to talk about this Wildcat Formation because it seriously made me drop something in my pants when I first saw it and I'll tell you why. The High School Football team I am currently apart of runs that SAME EXACT OFFENSE, this isn't a joke we run the same friggn' thing. Granted Ronnie Brown would be a QB and CP10 would be a receiver that can throw but still, almost every base wildcat play that the Phins ran, we ran ourselves this season. So you can imagine having a game on Saturday running "Doubles Right Ram 18 Iso" (Fake handoff to motion man (rickey) QB keeps and runs right) then seeing Ronnie do the samething on sunday, it really made me point and laugh at the Patsies and say "WOW you just got beat by a high school offense".

I know I could talk about all sorts of memories about the season, but thats a post that has happened already and instead Ill use my room to talk about my favorite player on the Dolphin Defense. Yeremiah Bell. Anyone notice how TRASH our D was when we were 1-15 and how TRASHIER our secondary was...O wait Bell had a torn achilles tendon 2 seasons ago. I don't know if anyone here has achilles tendon problems, but my friend got a nail through his 1 1/2 years ago and he still isn't running full speed yet. Really shows you how fantastic the NFL training staff is and Bell's ability to bounce back and LEAD the team in tackles. Think of how many solo tackles he had *100*. So lets just say that if a defender breaks every one of those tackles and gets just ten more yards. That's essentially 1,000 yards Bell saved. Seeing as we won a ton of our games by less than one possesion, those yards make a difference. The only knock i got on you my man is when Andre Johnson caught that ball over your face, we woulda been 12-4 if you could have INT'd that or even batted it down, but it's okay, we'll beat the Texans....some day.

Free Agent Reflection

Im not talking about the Unit here.

via willowtreehome.com

The 3 Gs Grove, Green and Gibril. Alright I'll start with Jake Grove, I am actually a huge fan of this pick and I think that the "Satele-Grove" swap is going to benifit both teams and I'll explain why. Jake Grove is a power blocker, its what he does, his feet aren't nimble enough to work in that stupid Raider zone blocking sceme, Satele, being a bit lighter, can move a little faster and work in that zone sceme. All grove needs to do for us is move Wilforklift to the left 2 feet so Ronnie can blast up the middle and shred the Patsies. I beleive he can do that, am I happy we traded Satele though...NOOOOO. Jake is going to work out, but as his injury history shows, there is a good chance that he gets hurt. So why not keep an insurance policy. Im just saying we BETTER draft a center in round 3 or 4 so that we can get a quality backup (or starder ala Donald Thomas)

So Eric who? The awefull Cardinal corner that got benched? Yeah him, I tried finding video on this guy as a pro and I couldn't find any, you know why? because he hasn't really done anything to deserve an Ed Reedesk video. Sure he was a solid guy for a while, but now IMO he is a scrub, a HUGE scrub and we better draft a corner with either our first pick or our second pick becuause I cannot let this guy start for us, let Jason Allen start I still have a little confidence in him.

I hate negatives, its been proven that optimists live longer that pessimists. But I'm not really a "Glass Half-Full or Half-Empty" kind of person, I think the glass is just too damn big. Any way my last G and by far my favorite. Gibril Wilson. The man like's to hit. Sure there was that argument about him having Nnamdi back there to help him, but you know what, he didnt have Asomuga helping him make all those tackles. If the man can wrap up and save us yards then lets sign him. He IMMEDIATLY upgrades our secondary.

Reynaldo Hill = 62 solo tackles

Gibril Wilson= 92 solo tackles

Nuff said.

Random Thoughts

Alright I'm almost out of stuff to say I promise

I think we need to adress in the draft these positions (in this order) CB, WR, LB, C, CB (again), DT

I think we are going to draft in THIS order: LB, CB, WR, DT, C

Anyone else noticing how big this community is getting, guys like Foy and Blaze are coming and I even see Natalya and Neo posting more avidly again. It's great, I'm pretty much a n00b posting on this site, but I've been an avid reader even when we had "the finatic" posting our daily reads hahaha.

Just a shout out to Matty, thanks for writing your stuff everyday, I'm writing this and I'm already bored. When I wake up in the morning for school this is the first site I go too and Its always a good read.

I love the Miami Dolphins

Though I have no problems loving this either.

via image22.webshots.com

Do I have this quote right Gator?

I promise you one thing, a lot of good will come out of this. You will never see any blogger in the entire country blog as hard as I will blog the rest of the season, and you will never see someone push the rest of the bloggers as hard as I will push everybody the rest of this season, and you'll never see a blog blog harder than we will the rest of this season. God bless...

This is fantastic news for all Phin Fans out there. Crowder is our second leading tackler and we'll need him for run support against the Jets this week.

"This week, I've got to get out there," Crowder said. "It's really our first playoff game. It's funny how the AFC worked out, but if we lose, we're done. If we win, we're going to the playoffs. So it's the first round of the playoffs for us, and I want to be out there. I want to help the team."

Okay I know none of us like either of these teams, but this is a crucial AFC East game. I also know that not all of us have the NFL Network (screw you NFL) and can't watch the game, so I just wanted to start this thread so that we can discuss the happanings of the game, who we want to win, how it plays out for the Phins, and to just plain laugh at any of the players get WRECKED in this game. Personally I'm rooting for the Pats ONLY because they seem more beatable at this time than the Jets and have a harder scheduale the rest of the way. So hopefully these teams will kick the crap out of one another and injure all their players. But my final verdict is

Jets 28-Pats 24 Ill root for Gaytriots this time but i dont think they get it done. Discuss?

It's Time...How many Wins?

Alright Dol-Fans the pre-season is almost over, our rebuilding project is in full swing as well. So HOW MANY WINS does The Phinsider predict for our favorite team this year. State wins and why you think that if you want.

We still aren't a very good team, but major improvements have been made. We have a relaiable QB that can, at the very least, manage the game and make smart descisions. Our running game should be fantastic, for Ricky has looked great and hopefully Ronnie will return to his explosive self. Our recieving corps still bothers me a little bit but Ginn has really stepped it up and will fill the void of the Dolphin's NO. 1 receiver. The O-Line is young and should protect not only Chad but our runners as well. Defensively I love our D-Line, even with the loss of Taylor, but even since Draft day I am very worried about our linebackers and our secondary.

Overall though we have gotten better but I think the majority of our losses will come from our Defense letting big plays by or our recievers not stepping it up in clutch situations...(or an awefull injury...knock on wood) Final verdict 7 Wins.

Patriots and PUP List

So the Patriots just put 12 players on their PUP list for training camp and I beleive the preseason, Including Wes Welker, Rodney Harrison, and 10 others. Why do you ask that I am pointing this out? Why do we care that the Patriots are scamming an injury protical again? Because thats, in my opinion, EXACTLY what they are doing. Scamming the system again and Ill explain why.

Having a player on the PUP list means that they can bring extra bodys into training camp and possibly the pre season. Extra bodys mean that they can look for more "Tom Bradys" or "Daimonds in the Rough". Even someone that can possibly bolster their linebacking corps. This infuriates me that they continue to disrespect the NFLs injury precautionary measures for their own gain. Sure it may be Brillient, but its downright against somekind of unwrittan code isn't it? It also isn't like the patriots and Injurys haven't had a history. You know how many games the patriots had at least 1 player on the Injury Report....ALL 16 not counting playoffs of course. How many starters ended up on the Patriots IR in 08? Less than 3. Possibly contributing to their great record. The Patriots have messed with the injury list to many times and I think it is time for the NFL to step in. I think NFL doctors should have ranomized checks of certain players to ensure that they really are "Pysically unable to perform". What does everyone else think?

Man I am sick and tired of the patriots taking a LARGE percentage of players and now COACHES that we release. They have just recently hired Dom Capers as special assistant and secondary.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d806cbae6&template=without-video&confirm=true

Here are just a few players the Patriots SNAGGED from us.

-Heath Evens
-Wes Welker
-Junior Seau (though he was technically retired)

NOW they've offered one of my favorite player Zach Tomas a contract. I don't know about my other fellow Fin fans but this is just another thing that makes me despise the Patriots more than any other team in the NFL. Do they do this to gain an edge on us? Am I just over reacting and this is just a coincidence? GAH I just dont know. But one thing is for sure, if we get Samuel then it'll be all worth while. What are your thoughts about them?
