Arrowhead Pride Pessimism bit my ass...

Wow was I wrong, way wrong. My all too familiar letdown from the usual KC Chiefs has been taken from me. Weeks ago I posted how we can't and WON"T win the division.......shit. Well I can admit when I am wrong, not often but I can. I gave Crennel and Weis no respect or reliability. I said the game has passed them by and until they were replaced we would go nowhere. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I am happy to be apologizing to the AP nation for my premature meltdown/lack of faith. However, like many people here I just want a winner here in KC and most times let my frustration get the best of me.

That being said, I was pleasantly proven wrong these last few weeks. Cassel looks like a Probowler, Derrick Johnson is as consistent as I think he has ever been. Tamba, enough said. Our young secondary has held it's own, and our once lackluster O-line has proven worthy in both the run game and pass protection. Our D-line has certainly made some pretty good strides considering the way they were shredded last year. Who to thank? Well, as I sit here with a full pate of crow that will take me some time to finish.......it's the coaches. Gulp (another mouthfull of crow).

So AP nation, I APOLOGIZE FOR JUMPING OFF OF A CLIFF THREE WEEKS AGO. AP'ers who agreed with me (very few), hope you stayed on the ledge. AP'ers who strongly disagreed (several), thanks for the BLOGASPHERE-SLAPASS TO THE FRIGGIN FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See you all Sunday. Go Chiefs

Arrowhead Pride Why we can't and WON'T...

Win the division with the current staff. Hear me out before you start firing rounds my way......believe me I know what's coming and I have my body armor strapped on tight.

Todd Haley: I like how he has won over this team and is putting up more wins than losses. A better team now than in the recent past.....no question. He has brought a level of discipline and character..........yepper. At times over-aggressive with 4th downs......yes, but nice to see some balls on the sideline. Thankfully those calls haven't killed us, hurt at times but never killer. BUT.....his lack of faith in Croyle's skillset (if that does actually exist) bothers me. He took this team to San Diego prepared to lose. Terrible game plan, very vanilla......and extremely predictable.

Season grade to date: B   San Diego grade: D

Charlie Weiss: Once a good/great schemer with NE. Now, I understand he had a MUCH better QB in Brady and maybe more talent ( all debatable). However, the play calling and scheme run in SD was as predictable as a pop warner game here in KC. He has been creative at times this year but that creativity, to me mind you, seemed very gimmicky. Weis' downfall IMO....the aggressiveness has long gone. That being said, the talent pool here may be more shallow than he is accustomed to but so is Buffalo and they throw up damn good numbers...why? Aggressive play calling and taking shots to keep defenses honest. Charlie.....use the run to set up the pass....basics. Oh yeah, there is a playmaking speedster named McCluster dying to get touches.

Season Grade: B-/C+ (thanks JC/TJ)  San Diego grade: D ( you can download flag football plays on google more creative)

Romeo, Romeo......where art thou Romeo?: You couldn't stop the dink and dunk soft zone penetration the 1st quarter....I understand, you probably gameplanned for the big play. Well guess what, when the majority of yards....ESPECIALLY on 3rd down were 10-15 yard quick hits under zone you HAVE to make adjustments. You didn't and seemed lost all day. I noticed Todd Haley hovering near you from the 2nd quarter on. Again, sadly I think the game has passed you by. Still a solid coordinator, I want to see guys crushing folks not a break-but-don't bend D.......we can get that from Greg Robinson. Damn you too Romeo until you grow a pair and get aggressive.

Season grade: C+  San Diego grade : D

Okay, all of that being said I am still hopeful for the playoffs this year and years to come. I am not calling for heads in a breakneck reaction to the total ASSWHOOPIN' we received Sunday. I like Charlie and Romeo, their records and experience speak for themselves. However, none of that has been done as a Chief. We need more talent to give them obviously but what has an 8-4 team hoping to win a division against a 6-6 team have to lose by throwing San Diego some craziness they have never seen? The Chiefs should have acted like a swarm of hornets just kicked in the nest instead of a family of sloths. Coaches prepare the players....talented or not........to drop the hammer on other teams. These three fellas.....this week anyway......dropped the ball. Players can only play as good as the folks that lead them.

Last but not least, the players are supposed to execute as individuals and as a team...that was obviously lacking from missed reads to dropped balls and missed assignments. They just looked like they played as if hearing from the coaches before the game: " lets just get out of here in one piece and hope San Diego stumbles soon,,,,,oh yeah we will have towin out". Go get em.

Killer instinct,

Please return to Kansas City. You are missed.

Get it back Chiefs, we need to finish with a turkey baby!

Arrowhead Pride Keyboard Dust-Off from Afghanistan

I have been deployed for nearly one full year now, away from my beloved Chiefs. Away from the smoked filled parking lots lined with dedicated fans and friends. Away from any shred of life in KC that I know to be normal.....BBQ, great local beer, great local music etc., etc. I am 7,800 miles away and I can only see and smell one thing from KC.....OPTIMISM.

First of all, thank you to AP for your non-stop coverage of our Chiefs, best sports blog, bar none. You all have kept me and my Platoon in the know for any and all Chiefs news, in fact, I have made it damn near mandatory for my guys to read AP to get the REAL info they need and want about their Chiefs.

So, moving on.......training camp is here back in Mo., ( where it should be, allowing fans an opportunity to see more of the team they so willfully support year after year). Draft picks are signed, talent is being brought in smartly and not by some good ol' boy system where a certain GM woud bring guys in his cronies said were the next big thing. No, it is being done right, finally. I think that this is the perfect year for the new Arrowhead to open it's doors because the Chiefs of recent past will not be walking though them. This is a new era in Chiefs football that started three years ago when Clark decided to put his stamp on KC Chiefs football. You can see it in the how players prepare, you can see how Haley has become more comfortable with the HC position. Most importantly, you can see the transition from players being weary of Haley to now trusting in his plan and his ideas of what makes a "team". I know some folks thought Haley was brash and arrogant and maybe they were right but the players seem on board with Haley and are willing to do what it takes to win. I hope so, the guy seems to have taken a step back and become more of a well rounded teacher/disciplinarian rather than a dictator of sorts, IMHO.

In closing, hell yes I am optimistic. I have already purchased my season tix (sadly I will miss the MNF/Arrowhead extravaganza) but I am ready for some football, some Chiefs football. The 2010 Chiefs will not win a Superbowl, they may not even win a playoff game. Does it matter to me? No, it doesn't. Rome wasn't built in a day friends, but from here I can see the coliseum taking shape and that means progress. That's all you can ask from my team, to get better ,because friends........ in my opinion, it can't get worse.

See you guys on the 26th for the 49er's game, I will be home for good from this Godforsaken country and sitting with a cold beer at the new Arrowhead watching my team get better........

Arrowhead Pride State of the Chiefs???

First and foremost, whuddup AP? Been a long time since I was able to post a comment!! Finally got internet here in Afghanistan and I have NO CLUE what is up woth our beloved Chiefs. I get snippets of news on occasion, and I see we have won only one game. I have no way to speculate what the hell is going on, but my gut tells me there just isn't enough talent. Am I right or is Haley not cut out to be a HC? Looking on-line at stats we seem to be bottom dwellers in both offense and defense. Fill me in AP, what's the problem with KC and is is it short term, long term, chronic or fixeable?? Hopefully it is a short term effect of gutting a franchise and virtually starting from scratch. Anyway, not much time today, 4:45 p.m. here, just wanted to see what was up and say hello. The weather is great here right now.......mountains everywhere.......to bad I am not on vacation!!!!

Peace AP!!

Arrowhead Pride Perspective...

As I sit here in my home, comfortable and with all the amenities that I need to survive as a human being, I am submerged in perspective. I am as big a Chiefs fan as any of you all, and this is the first and last site I visited daily. Yes, I said visited in past tense. I have been in training for a deployment to Afghanistan on a route clearing mission looking for IED's for the last month. Today is the first day I have had a chance to even look at the site, much less any other site. I leave for good on Friday and as I look around I have gained perspective on many things, football simply being the one I chose to write about here.

I can easily get wrapped around the axle about any and everything Chiefs, from signings to play calling all the way to griping about construction and parking. I have made such big deals about the absolute smallest issues. Issues that once seemed to be a priority. So I get home today for a four day pass before we roll out and I obviously want to check AP and all it's archives to catch up on the last month of Chiefs football. As always good stuff. The post that stuck out to me was Laniers post about cleaning up the threads and some other commentors that agreed. My point is this....at the end of the day, it's football, a game, a pastime, a hobby and a lifestyle for some, but a game nonetheless. Am I pissed about the loss? Hell yes. Do I expect more? Hell yes. Am I pissed about missing the whole season, ( especially since I bought season tix )? Absolutely yes. Am I worried about it? No. All I am worried about is making it back home safely along with all 30 of my men. I never realized how big of a deal I made about a sport for Gods sake. I will always be a Chiefs fanatic. I will always come here to AP and comment and read posts. I will continue to buy jerseys and beer and brats and scream and yell. However, from this point forward I will do all of those things with a bit less emotional intensity. Its a game fellas, a game we all love, live and breathe but a game. Enjoy it, love it, hate it or breathe it. Just remember, it's a season that lasts, at best, six months. Life happens every day.....................................................so sit back, relax and enjoy the game.

So long for now AP. Next time I post it will be from the beatiful mountains of Afghanistan, just coming in from looking for IEDs all day.................my perspective

Peace

Arrowhead Pride Chiefs sign Ashley Lelie, release Jeff Webb

Had to see something like this coming, espesically after Saturdays dismal WR play. I think Lelie brings the ability to strecth the field with straight forward speed that Bowe just doesn't have. This will hopefully pose problems in coverage for other teams. Jeff Webb, goes without saying as one or herms guys he was bound to be headed out of town anyhow. Ex-donkeys aren't my favorite breed, but hey..whatever it takes to win. Hopefully we will see a starting WR Corps of Bowe, Lelie, Bradley and however else things shake out. Didin't take haley long to see his WR Corps hasn't got much depth which we have discussed here regularly. So do you think Lelie helps out the Chiefs??

Arrowhead Pride My new favorite Chief......

After reading the post on Corey Mays, I made it a point last night, as my ass was soaked from head to toe in section 330,  to watch for Mays. All he did IMO, was show up....everywhere. He made plays behind the line of scrimmage, he was flying to the ball and he  was making good reads from the LB position. I firmly believe that he is one of our top three linebackers for this current hybrid scheme we are running. Now mind you, I understand we play vanilla schemes in the preseason but he seemed to play his gap and didn't over-pursue. Too many times last year we saw Pollard and Page forced into dragging someone down due to poor pursuit from our LB corp. Too many times our LB's simply weren't making forceful contact, wrapping up and driving through ball carriers. Mays was wrapping up, making good contact and doing his job well. Bromance? Mancrush? No, just simply glad to see a guy who got his start as a player without $30 mil guaranteed step up with his play and not his mouth. Mays is a guy who is simply doing what he is asked and earning his pay the old fashioned way, by working hard and being a team player and not a guy who talks to the camera and tweets and blogs etc. He is simply trying to earn a starting spot by play and not draft status and that my friends has garnered my respect for Corey Mays.

That being said, I swam my way to the 50 yard line in the first row and took a shit-ton of photos, when I get smart on editing and posting pics, I will share my pics. Also ran into an idiot Raiders fan with a Todd Christiansen jersey talking a load of shit the entire game that I made a bet with. I asked him if he could tell me the name of a running back drafted by the Chiefs who later became a Raider I would buy him beer the rest of the night and if he couldn't he would have to buy mine........................Thanks to Harvey Williams I have a huge hangover and all of the money I walked into Arrowhed with..................Thank you too idiot Raider fan.......bet you didn't plan on dropping $50 bucks buying beer for a Chiefs fan did ya???

PS-Don't let one preseason game spell doom, it's a work in progress fellas!!!!

Peace

Arrowhead Pride Counting on AP.............

To keep me informed this season and next off season. This will be more than likely my only news source for the next 12-14 months. I found out I will be spending my nest 12-14 months in beautiful Afghanistan! So, the season tix I just bought will have to wait for my ass until 2010!! Don't worry, the wife will be sure to fill our seats. As a Chiefs fan I have depended on/been addicted to AP for a year now. It's the first and last site I visit each day. I want to personally thank all of the contributors that make this the absolute best outlet for Chiefs and just about any NFL news. I am going with a ton of KC fans and I know this site will keep me informed. I will keep it a secret though ,( Simply to seem like a subject matter expert). I will however be able to attend the two home preseason games at least. I will be tailgating tomorrow and getting my Sam Adams on. So to all my fellow APers, keep the news coming, hope to see you out tomorrow and go Chiefs!! I will be taking my chiefs gear with me to represent AP out in the Middle East!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's get thing started out right tomorrow KC Chiefs fans!!! Beer, Brats and some football................what could go wrong right!!??

Peace from the Middle East!!!

Arrowhead Pride Draft Party revisited Vol II

About a week or two ago, KCShuffle revisited the potential for an AP draft party/gathering at a local bar. There were a few folks recommending a few different bars and locales and I wanted to revisit this so a few of us could get the ball rolling and make this damn thing happen!!! So that being said, I need help getting this thing going, I have no problem putting it together but I live in Cameron, about 45 min north of the "city" and need some intel. I need intel on a few bars that can A- house a semi-rowdy crew, B- has the network carrying the draft ( NFL Network I presume), C- will actually show the whole draft to include audio. The draft isn't that far away and the sooner we lock this thing in the better for several reasons. For example, KCShuffle will be coming from out of town and needs to secure airline arrangements and things of this nature. So, I would just kindly ask for legitimate locations with a little info on the place. Hope you all step up with some intel because as I have stated before, I really want to meet you guys and all the time and effort and work  we put into this site and this team, I think it would be cool to congregate, drink and throw out our opinions and not have to post links and pics for once.

Arrowhead Pride Very reasonable season TIX

AP,

For those of you who have ever wanted to grab season tickets for a great price, the time is now. Ticket charts

$250 dollars for a seat in Arrowhead is a good deal folks. I bought two more just yesterday. With the upgrades we have made in the front office and on the field it is an exciting time to see it live. I foresee the Arrowhead mistique returning in the coming few years and I personally want to be a part of it. I wanted to simply pass this along to you guys ( as if you didn't already know ) for a few reasons. As I have posted in the past about a draft party to get to know APers and to represent the website in a public forum, I think that an AP tailgate party at home games would also be a damn good time. Hope to see as many APers this fall as possible. Representing the 12th man.....SFCBurkhart.

PS- By being a Season ticket holder, you also have the following privileges:

1st pick at Arrowhead events i.e.-Big Twelve Champ/KU/MU and so on

You also getthe chance to upgrade each year eventually making your way to the bottom bowl.

See you in August fellas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be the guy with the high and tight haircut with an Ice cold Sam Adams in one hand and a smoked turkey leg in the other and a slab of ribs waiting in the tow-behind smoker

Arrowhead Pride Winslow to Bucs for draft picks

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cleveland Browns completed a suprising trade on Friday, and tight end Kellen Winslow will be changing addresses.

The Buccaneers acquired the Pro Bowl tight end from the Browns for undisclosed draft picks. The team will introduce Winslow at a 1:15 p.m. ET press conference.

Fantasy spin: Winslow to Bucs While injuries are a concern, Kellen Winslow should still be seen as one of the better tight ends in fantasy football. Michael Fabiano explains why in his fantasy football blog. More ...

Much of Winslow's five years in Cleveland were marked by injuries and controversy. He missed most of his first two seasons with injuries, but made the Pro Bowl in 2007 after making 82 catches for 1,106 yards. He demanded a new contract after the '07 season.

Arrowhead Pride Understanding who is in charge

Guys, I wanted to take a minute and give my two cents about Brian Waters. Before anything else, I would like to say that BW is a great player. A proven Pro-Bowler and locker-room leader. He has consistenly been honest with fans ans the media alike and is an extremely valued member of our community through all of his charity works.

Now that being said, something should also be made clear......Brian Waters is a PLAYER!!! He is not the entire team, and frankly he is not in any position to strut into ownership and demand ANYTHING! Understanding how a leadership chain works makes this thing easy to understand. Hunt, Pioli and Haley are the three top leaders, players and staff are subordinates and therefore the leaders make the calls and the subs execute without questioning authority.Simple, and proven.

Now,when the subs question leadership, regardless of the severity, the chain breaks and the integrity of the organization deteriorates faster than leadership can repair it. This only leads to tyranny and a "taking care of me and me alone" mentality which equals......no team. Teams must truly be teams to win, period. Brian Waters just proved that he feels more important than the other 52 players on this unit, and is opening the door for the rest of the guys to say they want out because they don't get what they want.

In closing I want to prove a simple point, in the last 6+ years, over 300,000 troops have come and gone on missions to Southwest Asia. You think for one second all these "players" agreed with what they were being told or agreed with the reason for doing it??? Hell no. And to drive it home even more, these young men and women go and serve and sometimes die for their team. While being injured for life or dying, these entry level troops clear just over $2000 per month. BW makes that every snap. Brian, thanks for your service but you have lost your mind.

Arrowhead Pride Thoughts on our QB situation

I saw potential in Thigpen at times lst year. However, I am still not completely sold on his ability as a solid option at QB. He seemed very tentative in the second half of games and I am certainly concerned with the deep ball. Several seemed to sail on him. That being said, I know the long ball can be coached because I do think he has the arm to get it done. But ask Brodie, it takes more than an arm to make it. What I do like about Thigpen, as I am sure you all do, is his mobility/escapability. That trait is impressive. I just wonder now that Haley is our guy, one : is Gailey safe? Two: will the Arrowspread return simply to suit Thiggy's abilities?? Personally, I would like to see us perhaps pick up a decent FA if available, maybe draft a QB in rounds 5-7 and let Thiggy fight for it regardless of the offense we run. Either way, i don't think Haley just hands the keys over to his new car before test driving a few QB's. As far as him being tentative in the second half.....not sure if that was him or the environment that Herm and Gailey created. Either way...........bring in Lenny if nothing else works.

Arrowhead Pride Picture for Chris...

aplogo (via bradley.burkhart)

After reading the comments on my post about an AP draft party, here is a logo/pic I put together for like a hat or t-shirt for the draft party. This isn't a trademarked item, it was clip art that I tweaked with the red/grey/black/green and yellow. Thought this may be a little more APish in the public eye. I couldn't think of any clever phrases or anything like that, I am a pretty simple-minded grunt.

Arrowhead Pride Draft Party info

Draft Party Link right here fells. The info is all there. I think it would be great to show ourselves there and be a presence. I am excited simply to A- meet some of you. B- meet other fans. C- get a good feel how other fans see/view/judge our new regime and our newest draft class. D- almost forgot, drink a few cold ones with the AP crew. Just some quick info, it's Sat 25 April @ the Arrowhead. I had a few frinds go last year and really enjoy. 08' was a much more enjoyable draft since the time for selections was sliced down a bit. Again, I think it would be great for the website to show our numbers and all of our outrageous opinions. I think it was Chris who said he wouldn't make any T-shirts/hats with our current logo. I am going to design one and submit it, I think we should all join in and work on a badass logo!

Arrowhead Pride Come together.........right now........

Fellas,

Maybe this has alrady been discussed, but I am going to present it anyways. Earlier about a month ago, I recommended a tailgate party at the home opener for all the AP crew. However, I am fired up about our new team. So, all that being said, who wants to get together and buy a VIP table at the Chiefs draft day party and represent the AP crowd and show our love for our team?? A VIP table seats ten and the seats are $85 a piece to include a meal, three drinks and a door prize. I am going to buy a seat and thought it would be  a fun day to gather as a crew, have a few drinks and enjoy and debate the draft and show KC what real fans are all about. Just a suggestion fellas.......Burk

Arrowhead Pride Like sands through the hourglass.......

Really??!! I mean really??!!

And the Oscar for best dramatic role as a franchise............the 2008 Kansas City Chiefs for their role as a wanna be franchise in the smash hit "2008"!!!

Well Congrats to all those involved and good riddance as well. As we all know 2008 was a dramatic one, sadly not for close games or last minute heroics. No my friends we were all witness to some serious, albeit unneccessary, D-R-A-M-A.

Enjoy this little golden trophy 2008, because from 2009 forward there shall be only one trophy worth working for............."El Lombardi"!!!!

See, since the beginning of the 08' season we have been on an emotional roller coaster as fans that simply want a good product on the field that at the least can compete. We all know questionable gameplans/game calling can be attributed to our woes. We know the source for that, our old buddy Snarl Federesun, Flerm Nedwerts,(names have been changed to protect the guilty). He was a poor manager once the game passed him by. When Clark canned Snarl, the hourglass stood still. We saw it as a time warp continuum, we were in shock, then Scott was hired ( real name), and Flerm was asked to move on. So ended the drama in my eyes. Yes, LJ is on the air this morning spewing his words of criticism of Kansas City as a town and an organization. Thats fine, keep talking. There is a new sheriff in town who is taking all of this in and taking notes. No, the drama is over, it starts at the top with Pioli, and if players think for one second they run things around here there will be a rude awakening I am afraid. My point is, after the TG drama, the Snarl, Scott and Flerm drama and now the LJ drama, there will be no more. In my humble opinion, there have been and there will be to come, great changes all around and welcome them, whomever our Captain may be. Good bye 08', welcome Mr. Pioli to our humble town and good by drama. If you want drama, there is a 7.14 pm en route to Dallas leaving KCI.

GO CHIEFS, welcome 09' and may the best team win

Arrowhead Pride Official AP Tailgate extravaganza 09'

Friends, Romans, Chiefs fans,

I have only been a member of AP about 4 months now but had an idea. Now if this has already been done, please disregard. That being said, I am already trolling for tickets next year and I thought it would be great for all those APers able to do so, to buy tix to the home opener and have an AP gathering for some tailgating. It would be a great chance to put a name to a face, drink some beer and have a good time and get to meet one another. Like I said, may have been done/thought of already, but what better way to show our team and other fans that AP is the sole source you need for Chiefs info and intel?? I persoanlly own a trailered smoker and would love to fire that bitch up and drink some beer. I am aware it is only Jan, but I have a feeling the home opener will be a great time to gather, party, eat and talk Chiefs.

Arrowhead Pride 09' Resolution

After being somewhat criticized recently here on AP for being the "Chicken Little, Sky is Falling Pessemist" I have decided to finally breakdown and be an optimist thanks to DJ. I openly admit to being the "Doom and Gloom" assface noone wants to hear in these times of rejoicing. So in honor of my favorite critic DJchief I am now going to keep an open, positive mind about our beloved Chiefs. I cannot stand HERMAN EDWARDS, however, I am not a coach nor am I a player. I, as well as 99.8% of us has no clue how to run a franchise or what is best for the team from an insider point if view. So that being said, if Pioli keeps Herm, he must have a damn good reason to and knows more than all of us. Looking forward.......Go Chiefs.

Yours Truly,

The blogger formerly known as ASSFACE Pessemist

Arrowhead Pride More of 08' in 09'

Sounds like Herm is safe. I am not jumping off a bridge and I am sure you all will say calm the hell down, but it sounds like herm is staying and I have zero to little faith in his staff or his abilities. If he does indeed stay, I look forward to seeing what Pioli brings to KC, but I will approach next season with no expectations for success. herm is a great guy, horrible game planner/manager. he would rather prove his way is the right way, regardless of the outcome, using stupid ass metaphors about prom. Next year you will hear, they are young, they will get better, they just missed a few plays... More of the same is on it's way. The record may improve to 6-10, 5-11 but please Chiefs fans, be ready to see close games slip away....AGAIN.

Arrowhead Pride PIOLI AGREES TO HEAD CHIEFS FOOTBALL OPS

Reports out of ESPN confirming deal is done.....anyone have details? I just received a VIP text from a local source telling me this info. If this is the case, let the games begin my friends. A new dawn is about to rise here in the beloved midwest. Chiefs fans go ahead and say your goodbyes to Herm and the gang as I am sure we will be cleaning house most directly!!!! I am sure this hiring will certainly give us a new batch of football fodder for months to come!! There is light at the end of the tunnel gents, lets go Chiefs....lets go in a new direction and make some shit happen!! Offseason....................welcome home!

Arrowhead Pride And you thought the season was a joke.....

Look, I am just as tired as everyone esle about all this GM speculation. I also am well aware that Clark has an important decision to make. What bothers me is we just suffered through the MOST abysmal season in franchise history and we are setting ourselves up for another in 09. Why??? Because while we sit here with our poseable thumbs up our collective asses, other teams are preparing for the following ( which Ithink are somewhat important):

A-Senior Bowl

B-Combine

C-oh what is this last one...........ah yes the F^@%$!^& draft!!!!!!!

The longer we wait, the worse things will become if we do indeed blow up the coaching staff etc. We are behind the eight ball already and now we have lost precious time because there is no off-season and as bad as we are built we are setting our new regime, whatever it may be, up for failure.

Arrowhead Pride Clark may make announcement Mon/Tues..

I was listening to 610 Sports last night and a caller by the name of "Mike" called in and has some interesting info to share. Now this is NOT 100% solid info, but was interesting none the less:

Apparently, "Mike" works for an electronics rental business and the Chiefs have requested enough equipment to host a rather large press conference. The reason the Chiefs needed to access a rental business was due to the pavilion being deconstructed inside Arrowhead to move forward with the renovations. Hope he is right as we need some closure on this soon to find out about the coaching staff and so on..........we need to get a jump on draft business.

Arrowhead Pride New Hires???? Don't fool yourselves.....

Kansas City is just that guys..........Kansas City. Small market, no forward thinking. These teams (Chiefs/Royals), are content with where tey have been and where they are going..nowhere! I am and have been fans of both franchise my whole life, always will be. However, one thing has remained consistent....mediocrity. The only blip on the screen came in 1985 with a world series championship on one of the leagues smallest payrolls.

See, Hunt and Glass are small time players in a small market. They certainly have us captivated as we all are very enthusiastic about each of them......see this sight. But PLEASE realize they know what they are doing. Regardless of our record or the attendance at games, they make money from widespread market sharing required by their respective leagues. They ARE making money and lots of it. Where?? From you and I , the fans who loyaly blog and attend games and watch games and buy apparel and so on. We are fooling ourselves if we think large scale change is coming to the Chiefs via Clark Hunt. He will make a conservative, safe choice who won't demand a ton of money.  When this new owner so many of you have a renewed faith in publicy states that Herm is doing a good job and wants to support Herms direction in this completely mishandled/misguaged/misguided rebuild, you better reevaluate your owner and his football intelligence. This coach and HIS hand-picked staff have failed in developing and recognizing talent with a few exceptions(Alberts, Flowers, carr and Leggett). Dorsey huh?? Nope, millions spent on an undersized misused talent who this wonderful staff has misplaced in this type of scheme.

In conclusion, I am a huge Chiefs fans because I am from here and there have been some good times. However, those good times get farther and farther in the rear view mirror with herm putting the pedal to the metal. Herm-great guy I guess, players like him and state so publicly............... but I would too looking to keep a job in this most mismanaged franchise. These guys aren't going to bash a coach and his staff when they know wholesale changes are coming....even mediocre changes. So don't fool yourselves thinking a new GM and this same coach will change anything. The bottom line is, you could have an all world front office and staff, but when Herm says, were in the lead....slow it down and hope we win, or mismanaging the game you WILL see more of the same. Sorry fellas if Herm stays like Clark wants, prepare for more of the same.

Arrowhead Pride Shanahan Fired...Herm still employed????

The Broncos fire ol' Mike and herm has a job?

Please make sense for my dumb ass......all offers accepted. I mean seriously , what is wrong with this world today?? It states to me that Denver will accept only excellence unlike ours. I feel for Shanahan as much as I hate the donkeys, but it speaks volumes that their organization will not accept mediocrity. Wish KC had some of that gumption!! Wonder who winds up in Denver?? Either way, Clark had better get his soft spoken ass to work fast just in case our new GM wants himself a coach.

Arrowhead Pride SFCBurkharts "top ten" ............

The top ten reasons Herm should go.....(drum roll please).....

#10-Herm lost his " Managing the game for Dummies" book given to him by Tony Dungy

#9-He managed less than 300 post game press conference similes/metaphors linking game day issues to prom/dates/anything else you can think of

#8-He refuses to wear the winning "sleeveless hoodie" linked to winning programs for good luck

#7-Herman forgot to trademark the infamous phrase, " you play to win the game", resulting in several generic spin-offs

#6-Herman continues to wear the Jets under armour thermal that he wore the day Pennington blew out his shoulder...coincidence????

#5-Herman allowed Dick Curl to take two days off per week to attend AARP meetings resulting in less than stellar QB development

#4-Herman jokingly replaced Guns patented "ambervisions" with transitions lenses during the San Diego game resulting in not "Seeing" the field in the last quarter

#3-The Chiefs cap space is a misnomer as Herm has spent 31 mil on safety pins for the "superfinished" look on his button up polos

#2-During our early season QB crisis, never once did Herm say...." Vinny....you ever seen the Plaza at Christmas? Come on down to KC baby!"

And the #1 reason Herm should go after the season...........Oh yeah, his overall record!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been fun Herm, really. I would just ask that you give our guys the opportunity to win one today for the fans that pay the bills at One Arrowhead Drive. Don't forget to turn off the lights when you leave.

Hope all you folks here at AP have a safe and Happy new Year!!

Go Chiefs!!!!!

Arrowhead Pride Holiday perspective......

To all the folks here at AP, I want to extend my best wishes to you all for a great, happy and safe holiday! I , as well as many of you get wrapped around the axle about our favorite franchise, and rightly so. However, I just wanted to send a message to please think about the folks fighting and working every day, here and abroad, that give us this privelage of free speech. These folks are passionate sports nuts like all of us and more than likely have much less time to blog and call in to radio shows and the like much less spend the holiday with family.  So in conclusion I say thanks to all of the brave young men and women who serve our country and keep our borders safe so we can attend games and tailgate. You have kept the wolves away from the door for 200+ years and you are appreciated. Come home soon, be safe and Merry Christmas!!

Arrowhead Pride Herm just refuses accountability as a coach

"Of course, it never should have come to that. That's youth — not having enough confidence to make a play at the end. It's almost as if we're waiting for something to happen. " [From Herms daily NFL Diary in the Monterey Herald 20081219]

Well Herm, every unit takes on the image of their leader. Herm doesn't have the confidence to make the CALLS at the end of the game!

I think Herm is a  good man and a good mentor for young players, but the game is too big for him as a head coach and I question his integrity more and more as I read comments like this. That being said, my buddy just gave me two free tix for Sundays game. I am going to brave the cold and support Clark Hunt and Co. I think I am nuts, but beer has helped me make several good decisions in my life so this shouldn't be any different right????

Peace fellas.

PS-Anyone want a free ticket???????

Holla!!!!

Arrowhead Pride Thoughts after looking back....

As most of you are and do, I am a listener of talk radio and follower of all things Chiefs. I am just as passionate about the changes our team are going through as anyone else.  I am a self admitted hot head impatient. So before I dropped my thoughts onto this blog I had to take a few days to sit back, analyze and (sober up after a slight bender following the "San Diego Meltdown") before I list my thoughts on our beloved franchise.

My thoughts on The new GM and the current HC:

  1. I think Clark actually has a plan to be successful and he tells the public all they really need to know for now. Call me a homer but after the "timely" dismissal of CP my faith is temporarily restored in our owner "Formerly -Known- as- Distant" ( yes a Prince referral)
  2. I understand that Herm is the architect of this so called "rebuild". I respect Herm as a person and as a man. I think he is a person with good intentions. However I always have good intentions on Saturday nights and wake up Sundays feeling like a shit sandwich
  3. That being said Herm is a proven loser. His two better seasons happened to be with a previous roster that had no fingerprints of his on it. His tenure in NY did bring some success, but it's the end game that counts....wins. He left with more losses than wins, the same way he will leave here.
  4. These close games keep being blamed on a play missed here and a play missed there. I agree that to be a factual statement, however who selected these players and who is responsible for making/training them to be at the right place at  the right time?? Thats right, the staff. The same staff hand-picked by you know who. Now, in defense of Herm ( somewhat ), the players do need to step up when called upon to do so.

My theories on the blame game:

  1. In every loss, Herm mentions the team as they or them. As in, " they weren't where they were supposed to be in that particular called defense", and so on. Now, in the two wins, Herms comments on post-game afterthoughts always say we. HMMMM???? I don't find that coincedental at all. Herm and his staff, to me mind you, just fail to take responsibility when things get ugly.

Now, to the players theory.......How do you expect all these young impressionable players get pumped up about a second half lead when they know their leader(Herm), is going to take his foot off the throttle? They know good and well in the second half of games they don't have the leader in place to finish the job. So I ask, how do you convince a player to put it all out there just to here the same old addage.......well boys, you played hard, your young, you'll learn, maybe next time...

The next times have come and gone in my opinion. We have a decent young roster full of talent from the same pool other teams pluck from, so being a military guy, I have to point to solid, aggressive leadership as the lacking ingredient. The game is too big for Herm as a head coach. He has carried such a chip on his shoulders about giving every living soul an opportunity, whether talented or not, that his stubborness not to change and adapt to the game that he has run himself out of town.

Conclusion:

Carl....good bye and thanks for the nineties. Herm, you gave it your best shot but came up short. New coach and new GM......give me something to be proud to call mine.

Go Chiefs in 09

Arrowhead Pride Afterthoughts.......

After reading all these comments on the "pathetic" thread, there are clearly two paries here....the realists and the Chiefs "Homers"!!

Here is the bottom lime folks......Herm got himself a lead, a decent one at that, and went into "lead preservation" mode!! The game didn't come down to a call on Tony G damnit, we shouldn't have beenin that position to begin with. Wa it a bullshit call? yeah, sure was. however, that wasn't the critical point in this game guys and gals. the critical point came at halftime when Herm told his coaches to sit on the lead and play not to lose. Anyone with half a brain and doesn't look through the patented Herm/Carl rose-colored glasses saw the play calling changed dramatically from a down field passing attack with creative run sets to a much more conservative dink-n-dunk short range game.

Herein lies the problem, we have a young impressionable team that needs to know it's okay to step on someones throat when given the chance. Our young team ,to include a fine playing QB, were given the tools and gameplan to win and proved they were up to the task, REGARDLESS OF FRIGGIN' INJURIES ON AN ALREADY SUSPECT DEFENSE, and were then told to shut it down and curb their enthusiasm in the second half and try to hold on to what they accomplished in the first half. Now, as far as injuries...guess what? They happen to every team, and  the good ones can recognize talented players to come into the fold and perform!!!!!!!

So, in closing, all of you homers...i.e KCCheeze and all your cronies....wake up fellas. You got the players as showcased in the first half, you just got noone to show them the way to win. You don't take a dominant half with momentum and jar it up for a later date. You open the damn thing up and drown your enemy in it!! Get off Herms bandwagon before you die on it as it rolls off a cliff!! The coaches, whom are directed by Herm, have no choice but to adopt his philosophy......Play not to lose. Idiots following the Shepard to the slaughter..........oh, and I am sure Chan will take another heat round for Herm no doubt!!! Way to man up Herm.
