Canis Hoopus Jonny & the PG's, Part II: The Wall

We're now two-thirds of the way through the season, so I thought we could take another look at the rookie point guards and their progress through the dreaded rookie wall (actually, the rookie wall might just be a myth, but it gives me the chance to make another Pink Floyd reference for the final look at the end of the season).  Again, the stats come from basketball-reference.com & 82games.com

We’ll skip the per-game numbers this time and start with the pace-adjusted per-36-minute numbers:

Canis Hoopus Breaking down the Wolves individually at the (sorta) halfway point

When I posted about the Wolves' individual numbers at the 20-game mark, I simply looked at the % of playing time and the PER and DPER of the players.  This time, I decided to look closer at the individual breakdowns leading to the PER and DPER for each player at each position.  The numbers I am using are a couple of weeks old and don't include any recent games; I saved the info from 82games.com a couple of weeks ago a little after the halfway mark of the season, but haven't had time to study them and write anything up until now.  Again, my standard caveat of this being just an analysis of the numbers still applies; I'll let you guys determine how the numbers coincide to what you see on the court.

One thing to note (that for some reason I didn't notice until recently), is that the individual PER info on 82games is per 48 minutes, and this makes the numbers look a little bigger than the per 36 minute numbers on basketball-reference.

Starting from the PG position and working our way down:

Canis Hoopus Jonny & the PG's: A look at the rookie point guards

I thought now might be a decent time to take a look at Flynn's progress, especially in comparison to the other rookie PG's.  I took the 11 players who have seen a significant time at PG this season and have been getting at least several minutes a game.  Nine of the eleven have spent most or all their time at the point, with the other two (Evans and Curry) splitting their time at the two guard spots.

Note: I was originally going to post this last weekend, as Xmas was around the 1/3 mark of the season, but a few things came up.  The numbers below are through Dec. 25th.  Most of the stats are from basketball-reference.com and 82games.com.

Canis Hoopus After 20 extended: A look at the players

This is really just Stop-n-Pop's statistical breakdown after 20 games extended to see how the individual players are doing.  I was curious to see who has been doing what to contribute (or not contribute) to the position the team is at now.  I simply took the data found at 82games for offensive and defensive PER for each player at each position, along with their percentage of time spent at each position.  I know PER is not the end-all of basketball stats, but it does give us useful information.

A couple of things I'd like to mention beforehand.  First, due to a few different factors I have not been able to watch the Wolves play this year, so any views I have of the team is almost purely on a statistical basis.  Second, it seems to me that 82games calculates their PER a little differently than other sites such as Basketball Reference, and I'm not quite sure how or why that is; if anyone happens to know the explanation I would appreciate knowing about it.

On to the stats.  First, the breakdown of of the percentage of time each player has spent at a particular position, and their offensive and defensive PER's; all players except for Love who had 2% or less minutes at a position were not included:
