Blazer's Edge Rudy Appreciation Thread.

Well, the Rudy saga ended today.

Rooting for Rudy has been frustrating at times, moreso towards the end of his Blazers tenure.
That said, there is still much that I appreciate about his having been a Blazer.

I'll always remember the excitement of his rookie year.  There was the build-up, watching Nate trying to contain himself in Beijing as he watched Rudy hit clutch jumpers and posterize D. Howard. Then there were the Rodriguez-Fernandez "Spanish Armada" alley-oops.  And there was Rudy setting the NBA rookie 3-pointers made record, threading crafty passes, and playing with fire and joy.

Somewhere along the way, things went south.  Maybe it was the Ariza foul, and Rudy's subsequent back troubles.  Maybe the rain and homesickness got to Rudy.  Whatever happened, the drama, the complaining, and the inconsistent play finally soured the fan-player relationship.

Be that as it may, I'm glad we got to cheer for Rudy.  Things went sour, but at the beginning, the sky was the limit.  And even after we learned that Rudy would not become the Spanish Michael Jordan, there were occasional moments of magic... a steal, a big shot, or Rudy's "too-little-too-late-but-so-tantalizingly-exciting" 3-pointer explosion against the Suns in the first round.

Farewell Rudy, and fare thee well.

Blazer's Edge Rich Cho Appreciation Thread & Why Fired Poll.

I appreciate his cool demeanor, perfectly tied ties, and the Crash Wallace deal.
There was something about Cho's style and 'intangibles' that made me feel secure that he wouldn't let the organization make rash or short-sighted decisions.

What do you appreciate about what Cho did (or abstained from doing) during his all-too-short reign as our GM?

Blazer's Edge Gerald Wallace: MFP? (Most Fouled Player)

While watching the Jazz and L*kers games, I was pleasantly impressed by how many fouls Crash Wallace drew.  He shot 10 free throws in the L*ker game (5 fouls), but also drew a smattering of non-shooting fouls.  Of these, the drawn charge on Bynum was the most momentous, since it fouled Bynum out.  (As a side note, Wallace's drawing of that charge is especially brave because it was a collision with Bynum that had once collapsed his lung.  So Wallace already knows that Bynum can cause serious pain, and, dare I say it, throw a cheap shot).

In general, I was impressed by Wallace's ability to get in front of moving players to where they would run him over (Bynum), throw an elbow (Artest and Odom), and generally feel frustrated (L*kers).

I wonder if there is a statistic on the overall number of fouls a player draws?  I hypothesize that Wallace is high on the list.  It brings great value to the game by getting opponents into individual and team foul trouble, and also by causing frustration for the opponent.

Anyway, I just wanted to highlight that aspect of Wallace's game.  It takes hustle and smarts to draw fouls, and Wallace has both in spades.

He was a unique player, a great humanitarian, and a shining personality. I never got to watch him during his playing days, but love seeing him in youtube clips, and ejoy reading players' and fans' memories of him.

OT - Aaron Brooks = Peking Duck?

This is random, but I had a personal revelation today. From now on, I'm calling A Brooks "Peking Duck." He's an Oregon alum, he plays with Chinese Yao, his style is flurry and swoopy. He's got a feathery touch, and can be really hot. Is it racist? If so, maybe Pecking Duck softens the blow? :)

Does anyone have a link to KG "crawling" behind Bayless? Having read Dave's description of Garnett's dastardly deed, I really want to see in person.

[I used to really love KG when he was a young underdog in Minny, making the best of a situation that was, at its best, mediocre. Now he's a big bully. I know he suffered many dissapointments as a young player, and I really expected him to be classy once he was on an elite team. For shame.]
