"The NFL’s Adrian Peterson, Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Polamalu, the NBA’s Brandon Roy and Amar’e Stoudemire, and Olympic decathlon gold medalist Bryan Clay all appeared as part of the media event in Southern California. Even Jackson showed up in videos discussing the shoe that was so much a part of his legacy.

Three NFL All-Pros, two NBA All-Stars and an Olympic gold medalist were out in force Thursday for the U.S. media launch of the Nike Trainer 1.

It was justified. The shoe has quite a legacy to live up to.

The original Nike Air Trainer was adopted and unexpectedly worn in competition by tennis great John McEnroe. It was the impetus behind the brand-elevating "Bo Knows" campaign starring two-sport star Bo Jackson. And it ignited Nike cross training.

Some 20 years later, advances in how athletes train and how shoes are made created the right moment for the Nike Trainer 1, available to consumers in the U.S. on July 1."

Hollinger on Joel

"Honorable mention: The leader in adjusted plus-minus this season was Portland's Joel Przybilla (-8.86), who seemingly blocks as many shots at the rim as anyone in the league and no longer goaltends two for every one he rejects. It's tough leaving him off the top three, but ultimately I have to for three reasons: (1) He didn't play a lot of minutes; (2) the Blazers as a whole weren't a particularly good defensive team, which would be an unlikely outcome if he were a truly dominant defensive center; and (3) look at the other three guys on this list and tell me which one you'd bump down."
