Braves put two CFers on the DL, have Marlon Byrd on the radar

CFers Nate McLouth and Jordan Schafer are both the DL... the walking wounded Braves are looking for reinforcements/upgrades. Bourne, Upton, and Byrd are the best options on the market for them.

Big Z wants to stay in Chicago, but only if there is "change."

That's what Zambrano told reporters, per Paul Sullivan's tweet. So far this year, Z hasn't disguised his true feelings too well with the media. In June, he responded to a question regarding his manager in the post-game presser by saying, "What manager?" Last week, Z did the politically correct interview and defended Quade. And now, Z has gone full circle... saying he wants "change." Hmmmm... I wonder what that "change" is?

Cubs Trying To Unload Zambrano

ESPN's Buster tweeting that the Cubs are trying to "nudge the Yankees" into a deal.

Sources: Bears interested in Brad Smith

Quoted: "A fourth-round pick in 2006 and former quarterback at Missouri, Smith caught just four passes last season for 44 yards with no touchdowns, and rushed for 299 yards on 38 attempts. Those numbers might not immediately resonate, but it's likely the Bears are drawn to Smith's 6-foot-2, 212-pound frame, versatility and the fact he represents an explosive value option who could take some of the attention off playmakers such as Devin Hester and Matt Forte." ... "There's a good chance Smith's value has increased somewhat given the proposed rule in the labor settlement that makes all third quarterbacks active on game day. The new rule would mean that Smith could serve as the Bears' third quarterback, while still contributing in a normal capacity on offense and in the return game, which basically would give the team an extra roster spot."

Cubs Do Not Intend To Trade Jeff Baker

The Cubs will not trade utility man Jeff Baker according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The Red Sox and Indians have reportedly shown interest in him.

Hendry declining all offers for Sean Marshall

According to Carrie Muskat, Hendry's getting phone calls from teams inquiring about players that he's not interested in moving, and he's telling teams that they have no interest in talking about Sean Marshall in any potential trade. That's absurd. You have multiple suitors for a player of excellent trade value, on a team that won't contend any time soon, unless management is truly delusional. Listen to all offers, and create a small bidding war to land several prospects who can make this team a division winner in the future.

Brett Jackson (#32) and Matt Szczur (#48) on Baseball America's Midseason Top 50 Prospects List

Bryce Harper and Mike Trout remain #1 & #2. It should be noted that the Pirates top pitching prospect, Jameson Taillon, is ranked #9, and the Pirates may be buyers at the deadline for the first time in two decades. Hak-Ju Lee is #22. What are the chances we actually sell to the Pirates in a role reversal this year?

Dontrelle Willis finally regaining his form with the Reds

Willis has a 2.63 ERA, 8.0 K/9, 2.4 BB/9, and 0.6 HR/9 in 13 starts for the Reds' Triple-A affiliate this year, and was a scratch yesterday with speculation that he's moving somewhere. This is exactly the reason why I advocate signing Scott Kazmir. There is absolutely no excuse for the Cubs to not sign him.

Scott Kazmir Worked Out For Rangers

I don't know why the Cubs haven't been linked to Kazmir at all. We've had injuries to our rotation and are adding over-the-hill guys like Doug Davis, Rodrigo Lopez, and Ramon Ortiz for crying out loud. At least add a guy who once had incredible stuff and see if he could find it again. Ben Sheets should be worth a look to. I mean, why the heck not? Put these guys in Iowa and see if they can get their mojo back. Our rotation needs help now... and there a lot of question marks looking ahead to 2012. Give it a shot!

New ownership of Old Style plans to exit Cubs deal.

Quite an interesting read on the new ownership of the Pabst Brewing Co. QUOTED: "I also want to try to exit the 'Cubs' deal and divert this money behind Old Style 'Light,'" C. Dean Metropoulos wrote. The relationship between Old Style and the Chicago Cubs baseball team has existed for 61 years.

Cubs summer blockbusters, coming soon to a theater near you.

With the summer in full, and the Cubs competing for the worst record in the majors, the BCB faithful should be looking for better ways to spend their time. As always, the summer box offices are...

Peter Gammons calls Wrigley a "Dump"

I liked Peter Gammons a lot better when he was reporting baseball news. Now he just throws his opinion around instead.

The most embarrassing moment in Cubs history over the past 20 years. You decide.

I am absolutely furious and completely embarrassed as a Cubs fan over what just took place this weekend in St. Louis. It was obvious during week one of this season that manager Mike Quade was in...

Marty Brennaman manages to piss off Tony LaRussa.

The #1 douchebag of baseball announcers is at it again.

When the Bears fail to make the playoffs again in 2010, who gets the job?

Lovie Smith is a lame duck... running out of excuses and options. Ditto for Jerry Angelo. The rap sheet: 1. No playoffs in 3 seasons.2. Promoting and then demoting himself as defensive coordinator.3...

Bob Brenly talks with Danny Mac on 670 about Cubs Job

Great interview... Brenly chooses his words carefully to not campaign for the job in the media, but you can tell that he wants the job.

Steelers trade Holmes to Jets for 5th round pick

The Bears will likely use a 5th round pick in this year's draft on a WR... they could have just used it on Holmes. I hope to find out later, that the Bears at least inquired about Holmes. If not,...

Broncos still searching for Cutler's replacement. Trade for Brady Quinn.

I think all of us here at WCG can find truckloads of humor in the Josh McDaniels QB rollercoaster. He caused the ruckus that led to Cutler's trade to the Bears. And now, he's still searching for...

Are "Lead Off Plan" 13-game flex ticket packs back for 2010?
