This is BIG!

Thrasher puts in money for a separate FSU College of Engineering! This is huge for the school, and a great step toward more national prominence!

Vote for Nick O'Leary in the John Mackey Award Semifinals

Ebron is gonna be tough to beat! Come on, everybody, and vote for Nick!

Sarcasm 101 for new ACC members

I'm up in NC visiting the folks and ran across this little jewel. It's a fun read.

ACC bigger as of today!

ACC marketing hard in NY today!

FSU makes the cut

Seems like we made the cut, along with UF, to be designated a pre-eminent research university. Only two in the state. This is a GREAT thing!

ACC Network Issues Resolvable

CBS's Fowler thinks Raycom's inventory can be bought out pretty cheaply. I did not know that Raycom owned "a lot" of southern stations. That fact adds some complexity to the negotiations.

ACC 3rd Highest Payout in 2012

ACC is solidly in the middle of the financial pack, behind the B1G & SEC and ahead of the Big12 & PAC.

Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl vs ACC Highest Available?

Posted on Panther-Lair: "The ACC Conference Winner that does not qualify for a Playoff spot will play ND at the Orange Bowl every year as means to counter the Rose Bowl & BIG-12-SEC Bowl. Notre Dame sell outs every Bowl they play in and the Orange Bowl is delighted about this aspect. " This would be VERY cool!

Five things the ACC can do to bring FSU fans back

J Fann article with some ideas about what might help Florida State build its program.

David Teel article on FSU to the Big 12/10, whatever.

There's also a very good explanation of tier 3 rights.

ACC/ESPN Contract talks go to remediation?

According to sources at Pitt, Swoffords/IMG (IMG lawyers were hired by the ACC to handle negotiations) call with Chancellors and ADs at ACC/Future-ACC schools was to provide a status update on...

Swofford interview

Brief interview with Swofford touching on a lot of topics. This was posted on another blog, so apologies if reposting is a no-no.

ACC Tournament Talk

Florida State mentioned a good bit.

State of the Media in Sports in 2011

Some surprising things in here. NCAA Basketball ad revenue dwarfed all other sports in 2010/11. Total NCAA BBall ad revenue grew 30% to $1.336B. NCAA football ad revenue fell 20% to $787M. Football ad revenue has been flat or declining since 2007. Other Numbers by conference: NCAA Bball 1/1-3/13/11 (000's) Average Viewers Big 10 1.496 ACC 1.247 SEC 1.222 Big 12 1.069 Big East 1.049 Pac 10 0.783 NCAA Football Average Viewers by Conference SEC 4.447 Big 10 3.267 ACC 2.651 Big 12 2.347 Pac 12 2.108 Big E 1.884 The ACC was number 2 in BBall viewership & number 3 in Football, well ahead of the Big 12 I might add whose numbers will not look as good projecting out after losing Nebraska, aTm & Mizzou. I have to think with these numbers & trends we'll be looking at more than the previously "leaked" $1-2M. Lou? Abiaka? I just crunched some numbers from the study and have NO insight in the TV biz. But trends are trends.

Hess gets a reprimand.

Do you think they might be "papering" his file in order to elect different refs in upcoming games?

New ACC TV Deal Expected to add $1-2 Million per School

I don't know what to think about this. The article suggests we're looking at a minumum of $1-$2M additional per school, but will have to extend the existing contract another 3 years. It seems to me that arbitration would be more productive than that deal.

FSU GreatGive

Florida State is trying a "GreatGive" fundraising concept in a 36-hour fundraising marathon to benefit athletics and academics.

ACC football athletes excel in Playoff action!

Wow. A pretty impressive showing by former ACC players. GaTech has a LOT of players doing well at the next level.

2011: The Year I learned to Hate College Football

The author makes some good points here which, I feel, echo a lot of people's feelings about the current state of the sport and especially the commercialization of the bowls.

UVA Coach steps up

Any chance Jimbo does something like this?

Larry Fedora new UNC Head Coach

Local news station in the Triangle reporting that Larry Fedora is the new HC at UNC. The boys in Chapel Hill must've liked that Houston game.

Sports Media Asks Molestation Victims What This Means For Joe Paterno's Legacy

The Onion nails it: "This is obviously a sensitive subject for you, and I understand how difficult and uncomfortable it must be to talk about the abrupt end of JoePa's career, but as a journalist, it's my responsibility to weed past the 40 counts of sexual misconduct over a 15-year period and the gross negligence on the part of school authorities and ask about what is really important here: Joe Paterno's football accomplishments," Steve Wieberg of USA Today said to one anonymous victim, who was 10 years old when Sandusky assaulted him and who now suffers from irreparable emotional and psychological damage. "He is the winningest Division I football coach of all time and a man whose very name is synonymous with excellence. As a Penn State fan yourself, this must be very tough for you."

If Big East schools were girls

This is pretty funny. Based on the representations, I think we (the ACC) had a pretty good night! Maybe someone out there with some skills can work up something for the ACC?

Separated at birth?

SIAP, but they could be brothers. Or siblings?

Pitt receives $125 million gift.

Pitt just received a gift of $125 million--largest in the school's history! Why can't we have some wealthy alumni write a check like that?

Intro to Pitt's facilities

I was bored last night, so I wandered over to the Pitt website and checked out their "Intro to Pitt and its sports facilities" pinned link. All I can say is, "Wow!" My son is at FSU now (Jr. ME) and I would love for him to go to a game on a campus like that. I wish Doak had seats with chairbacks! Here's the link.
