The Angels have just agree to terms with RF Vladimir Guerrero to a 5 year contract extension according to Ken Rosenthal from foxsports.com stay tuned as we gather more information.

Can anybody verify this? I looked through the diaries and hadn't seen this posted yet. What are your thoughts? Anybody got the numbers on his extension?

UPDATE
ROSENTHAL:
"Angels owner Arte Moreno, however, plans to extend Guerrero's contract to bring it more in line with Hunter's, sources say. Guerrero will earn $14.5 million next season and the Angels hold a $15 million option on him for 2009. Hunter is earning $18 million per season under his new deal."

Why the Sweep May Haunt Us

I'm as happy as anybody that we swept the Tigers this past weekend. It's better than any of our other sweeps this season, including the ones versus LA and pantsing the Yankees in the Bronx. Detroit is the defending AL champ and their pitching is top of the line.

That said, the fact that we scored 34 runs in 3 games against this great staff worries me that Stoneman might feel that our offense is capable of keeping up this kind of production the rest of the year. Not to be a doom and gloomer, but the reports on Rivera don't appear to be good. As many other posters have said, we cannot and should not bank on a productive Juan Rivera, for this year anyway. Furthermore, we cannot bank on GA's hot streak to continue through September.

There's no doubt that this team is fully capable of reaching the playoffs, but I feel we could use some kind of power bat either in LF or at 3b. Ty Wiggington would have been a good fit, but he's in Houston now.

As if the Rangers weren't dead already, Hank Blalock needs surgery and is out until mid-August. Good news for us, bad news for my fantasy team.

Now, on to more important items. I want at least 2 out of 3 from LA and would love to see Penny get his first L of the season. Let's go Angels!

Our offense compared to others

Just did some research to see how our offense compared to others. You can draw your own conclusions.

8th in runs
4th in hits
13th in HR's
10th in RBI's
13th in BB's
13th in K's (as in, we hardly strike out compared to everybody else.
1st in SB's
9th in OBP
1st in GIDP

So, on paper, the trouble is getting runs in. Getting on base and moving runners along the basepath doesn't seem to be the problem. The problem is with RISP. Figgins, Willits, Kotchman, Napoli, Hillenbrand, Kendrick, Anderson, and Molina are hitting .250 or below with RISP.

The other problem with the offense is hitting LHP. Scioscia has tried to put in so many different right handed hitters, but the results are usually the same. Cliff Lee should not have tossed a 3 hitter at us last Tuesday.
Napoli, Kotchman, Figgins are batting less than .200 vs LHP and Cabrera is hitting just .211. With Kotchman, it's expect since he bats left handed. But there should be no excuse for Figgins, Napoli, or Cabrera to hit that low.

Casey needs the at bats, but I wouldn't mind seeing him platooning with Quinlan at 1st right now.

My thoughts from tonight's game

I was at the game tonight in section 535. While that may be far away, it turned out to be a good thing because the Angels stunk so bad. 3 hits. 3 effing hits off of Cliff Lee. Heads need to roll, I'm tired of this shit. Rev, I hope my language doesn't violate a board rule, if it does, please feel free to delete this diary.

Now, on to my complaints.
First of all, Mike Napoli must have nude photos of Scioscia with another woman. Otherwise, he should be in AAA. This guy is 4-21 (less than 20%) at throwing out base stealers, and is hitting .194 with 1 HR and 3 RBI. He's still in his slump from last year as far as I'm concerned. He needs his ass shipped back to Salt Lake or traded immediately. He hasn't made the adjustments. I want another look at Mathis in the bigs. He only had 40 at bats last year before being sent down. Let's see what he's learned in his stint down in AAA.

Secondly, I was hesitant to admit it, but Shea is a bust. He's this year's Steve Finley and coincidentally wears the same number Finley did. Can we retire the #12? Shea's had over 100 AB's without a HR. AND HE'S OUR DH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. Trade him to KC for a punishment.

What's more pathetic is Quinlan hitting behind Vlad. This guy is making what, 6 figures to protect Vlad? Robb's good against lefties, but it's never a good idea to have him hit in the top 5 of the order unless we are out of the race by August.

Look at tonight's lineup. You could only make the argument for Vlad being at SF in July. Sure we are short GA, Rivera, and Izturis right now, but changes must be made. It's time to shop the farm for proven major league talent. DMac must go, let's get rid of Wood, Murphy, and Moseley while we still can get something for them.

By now, we should be at least 5 games ahead of piss poor Oakland and Seattle. Hatcher needs to go, and some trades, not callups/ send downs, need to occur.

 <fieldset class="poll-box">
 <legend>Poll</legend>

Am I over- reacting?

No, you are correct

24 votes

Somewhere in between a bedwetter and a sane person

Hey,
I'm sure this issue has already been discussed ad nauseam, but what are everybody's thoughts on Saturday night home games starting at 6:05pm instead of 7:05pm?

Can somebody please tell me why the Angels decided to make this move? I wasn't that happy with the 12:35pm games on Sunday, but this move on Saturday night sucks even more. Thoughts?
