Maxim.com: The 10 Worst Broadcasters in Sports

When a friend first alerted me to this list, I was outraged, yet frankly, not all that surprised. What did surpirse me, however, was to find that the selection was compiled by the usually-respectable Will Leitch. Clyde, like Jeff Van Gundy, is one of those announcers you need to really appreciate the (often not-so-subtle) nuances of to really love. So perhaps as many non-New York fans as I've heard trash Van Gundy's commentary (which I personally enjoy) may also disapprove of Clyde's extensive vocabulary, formidable rhyming capabilities, profound sense of fashion (which includes Puma's signature "Clyde" shoe), and shameless part-ownership of Just For Men hair products.

Friends from out of town, while watching playoff games covered by the all-New York Mark-Mike-Jeff trio, often ask why Clyde isn't there alongside, and there's never really been a doubt in my mind. Just like the average Maxim reader, the average guy on his couch sporting a McDonald's-stained undershirt and tuning in to ESPN playoff coverage might just as well relate "precocious neophytes" to those itchy little rascals hopping around in his scalp.

As for Will Leitch...whatever gets you paid, buddy. Just know that your mockery of near-extinct use of good English isn't earning you any points among the 85-and-up I.Q. club. And as for subsequently shitting on the '07-'08 Knicks -- perhaps the easiest feat in the history of sports writing -- I hope it at least made you feel a little better about yourself after selling out.
